Does Money Really Talk in the Visa Process?
pkfops replied to RLS's topic in Culture & Language Discussion
The only thing I can tell you is that all of my trips, except the first one, have been well planned. You can do 10 - 14 days for about $1500 if you put some effort into your planning. Plan and start searching for the best prices six months in advance. I pick several flight options and check the prices everyday (every two hours) and make my purchase about 90 days in advance. Same thing with the hotels and book at least 60 days in advance. You will have to make email inquiries before deciding on the best price. Strech your airfare payment over 3 months before you leave and your hotel over 2 months upon your return. It doesn't put much of a dent in your savings. Since I have automatic bill payments and direct deposit, life goes on while I'm on vacation and have no surprises when I return. -

P4 packet arrived. Booked Flight for Interview
pkfops replied to Jonathan's topic in General Visa Discussion & First Steps
Boy you guys on the West coast have it good!!! Here in the Midwest it is not cost effective to go to China. We pay out the nose. Rick and Yanlan 202914 You can take the Greyhound from St Louis to SF for $113. That may save you a little. -
We will be going in for my wife's AOS interview in June, I have two questions and I would appreciate some help: 1. Since December 12, 2005, only one year tax return is required for the I-864 (Affidavit of Support), But the I-797C notice (Rev. 01/31/05) ask for tax returns of past three years, Do I really need to bring tax return for three years, or just the current year is enough? My problem is that I only have 2004 and 2005 returns. 2. Where and how to get a certified marriage certifiate in NYC. Thanks, Pinky 202921 Go to the IRS site and download a request for a transcript. It should take about 30 days to process.

They often loose stuff so you need to be ready for a quick turn around in case of a RFE.

Thanks. We go on Tuesday.

P4 packet arrived. Booked Flight for Interview
pkfops replied to Jonathan's topic in General Visa Discussion & First Steps
pkfops, I got confused on the words: "connecting flight" and the part about waiting? The one I am flying on is a direct non-stop flight. No waiting for a transfer... By the way, did you get your ticket online or via a Chinese travel agent? If we are talking about the same thing, and you have a direct flight, that is a great deal. I haven't been able to find $840 during all my calls to a lot of agents. But I was quoted $799 with taxes included directly from the Singapore Airlines website. I chose the option: "Flexible with travel dates" during the search in order to get that rate. During that same day, a search using "must travel on these dates" gave me a ticket price of $930 for the exact same flight. The only reason, I did not go with that $799 round trip rate was because the 1 way ticket on the same flight back for my fiance was $630. I did the math, and 799+630 direct from the airline is worse than 860+535 from a Chinese travel agent in the US. Difference of $33 bucks saved. 202686 I went on to GZ from HK; that's where my wife is from. My last booking with Singapore was from their website. If you work hard, I know you can find a good deal in SF with a Chinese travel service. I remember seeing a great deal when walking through chinatown for the new year posted on a storefront window. I got a great deal with GlobalNet Travel on Washington St. once. RT from SF to HK with 5 nights at the Metropole for $635 back in 2001. Other than that; it is a great feeling sitting at the Andela Cafe at SFO, drinking a beer and waiting for your Singapore flight to HK. -

That's a good price for Singapore; I did the same flight but I think our price may have been $20 cheaper. I try to fly on Tue, Wed or Thur. The down side is that you have to wait about two hours at the transfer station in HK before you can go upstairs to have a beer before your connecting flight. The good side is Singapore has the best looking girls. -

About reporting illegal immigrants......
pkfops replied to m-coon's topic in General Visa Discussion & First Steps
Just remember, When the expiration date on your wife's I94 has been met, she is in the country illegally. How would you like it if an office busy body reported her? She will do the AOS from a cell. If you mess with somebody's income and family, you will have problems beyond your control. -

My wife taught me early on in our relationship that "Happiness is Shared in China". -
Are you serious?! 198901 I agree with Jesse, this is a custom and I was asked to sing for her during one of my visits. I made up a song called "forever love Lucy" really cheesy but she was so moved that I did that. I think that sealed the deal for her. 198926 Just go out for karaoke and sing the "I Love Tsing Tao" song.
-
I've taken many Chinese bus tours, not the expensive one's for forigners, and it is not uncommon for the guide and passengers to start singing Chinese folk songs.
-
Give it a shot. Since the just stamped our EAD notice (no appointment letter)I think they will do and put it in the system.
-
Feathers: Glad to see you're making some progress! I would find out where biometrics can be done for your address and take the interview appointment letter to them and see if you are in their system and if they will do her biometrics without an appointment. The local biometrics place in my neighborhood has 6 to 8 people working there and 2 or 3 people getting pics and prints!! Nothing to lose by trying and if you don't have the bio's done by interview time, you'll go back to waiting for an appointment and more Muzak!!! Also, I have had letter carriers that would not put anything in your box if your name wasn't on the inside of the box. Where I live now I am still getting mail almost daily for people that lived here a year ago. It all depends on your carrier! Oh, and from what I have seen, I would think it very possible that they could misplace your interview and ask for a second!!!! 198748 We went here: 2040 Telegraph Ave Oakland, Ca. It is right behind the old Paramount Thearter and can be reached by BART, 19th St Station. Walk in, fill out an information sheet and wait for your number to be called. Then show the guy you letter and tell him you need the bio done. Don't forget your wife and her passport.
-
They go after the old ladies.
-
really?your wife also added your family name as hers and keep her original fist name? you were not refused to do with the biometrics.then how ahout the AOS interview? i am sorry to keep on asking the same thing. Oh, my god... so complex... 198717 The interview then should be no problem as long as you do not forget the marriage license. We did the oppisite and kept my wife's Chinese name. She's Cantonese so all of her government douments have her name in Mandarin, so I guess she is used to it. I do have one concern with her Chinese passport. It will expire in 2008 and I was wondering if she will get it back (the old one) after having it renewed at the SF consulate. Im not sure how that process goes.
-
I'm not sure if that is a problem since it seems the AOS process is moving forward. May as well wait for the GC and fix things after that. Maybe someone with better knowledge will jump in. We have to wait for a few things also.
