1. Just a note: I checked online this morning and our EAD has been approved.
2. SFO moves quickly but I would still want to give myself about three hours for a connection.
3. Watch your mail box as you will get a NOA for recipt of your packet followed by your biometrics appointment and then your interview appiontment and maybe a RFE for lost or missing data.
4. Get a started with this: http://www.rei.com/online/store/ProductDis...NS_CLOTHING_TOC http://www.rei.com/product/3838.htm?vcat=REI_SSHP_TRAVEL_TOC http://www.rei.com/product/3839.htm?vcat=REI_SSHP_TRAVEL_TOC Leave the wallet at home and just carry something thin for your cards. Cash goes in you shirt pocket. Follow the rules as in any big city and look and walk as if you know what you are doing. Usually the punks target girls talking on cell phones.
5. You are on your way. Now you can plan your next visit. Don't forget to take lots of photos of you and your SO's family.
6. You can find that information on page 4 of the I485 instructions or page 6 of the I765 instructions.
7. You have to give them what they want. A good rule is to make 5 sets of everything you will send along the way.
8. Let's get started on a positive track. Travel docs and pleanty of cheesy tourist photos should be proof of contact. The more visits the better. You have a long road ahead and it is best to keep that negative energy to a minimum.
9. More good work by David. Another item for the "What to Bring" My wife's cousin has volunteered to act as her interpreter. Just in case she get nervous and reverts back to "I don't know" when she doesn't understand something.
10. Thanks; our concerns are much the same as Rainbow's but we are more focused on the interview right now.
11. That was me, I was going to point you to the Chinese Consolute in SF but I mis understood your question. My wife will decide if she wants to change her name after the two year GC expires. That will be the same year her passport will expire so we figure we will do everything at once. I do have a question about the Chinese passport. If you get a new passport due to name change or the old one expires, do they return the old passport back to you? It seems the services for Chinese citizens are in Chinese only.
12. I sent mine via USPS Priority on 12/16 and Chicago put 12/23 as the day of the recipt.
13. Pkfops..was that the water cave?..did ur boat sink .. That bamboo thingy..did ya see the man that had the birds cathing fish?..our guide asked us to find the moom rock on our bikes going to the water cave..Got soaked in that cave..Flashlight died and one of the boats sank on the way out ..I remember bike ride we went through back dirt roads..mudholes everywhere..The trip from water cave back to town was a good one, mostly downhill..... Next time will bring shorts, a motor for bike, a water proof camera and our own flashlight,hehe...Truth though loved it just like it was, wouldn't trade them memories for anything. 192768 No problems with the boat.(cave trip) The bamboo raft was cool as I bought a couple of beers on the way and the weather was great. Don't forget to buy the bamboo water gun from the kids so you can spray your fellow rafters. We took a van from a spot near moon hill to the cave. Also for the ride back to town we just put are bikes in the van. Our guide knew the driver so it was cool.
14. Also, if you go to both places, do your shopping in Yangshou. The prices are much more reasonable. 192693 I also, forgot to mention that you must try the Beer Fish in Yangshou. It is a local favorite and it was very good!! However, I have no clue why they call it Beer Fish. Finally, they have many Chinese Watercolor paintings in many of their shops along West Street. 192762 The Famous Beer Fish Resturant: http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/47aba/f2ab2/2/
15. Couple of things to add: Guilin: At night; walk around the river/lake area and take the night cruise (about 2hrs). Also there is a song and dance show at a "minority village" on the edge of town that features a famous chinese actress. I forget the name of the place but your wife should be able to find it in one of her chinese tour books. A tip for day touring; there is a tourist shuttle bus that goes to the major in town attractions, again I forget the bus number but it is well marked on the bus stops. Yangshou: Don't be shy about hooking up with a local guide. We took a bike tour down to the river for a ride on the bamboo raft; picked up our bikes at the end and then went to Moon Hill and a cave tour. The guide only wanted 20 yuan, a very nice girl.
16. Meet your SO in Nanning and take the train. Spend a few days in Guilin and the plan a few days in Yangshou. Travel by river. Go here to plan your trip. http://english.ctrip.com/
17. When I plan a trip to China, I like to give myself 90 days for the trans-Pacific flight. For domestic airfare let your SO take care of that. Instead of just going to GZ for the interview only; maybe make plans to see some of the sights. Add perhaps more locations like three cities or so, if the time permits. Make it something to remember since your SO will not be able to return for quite some time.
18. Good news. I will tell you when I had to call for my RFE about my tax return, a lady said; "it probably got lost" and to mention that in my letter. Sounds like they have a QA problem; too bad you have to go through the hassle to get it fixed. Let us know how much extra $$$ you have to shell out.
19. Since we've had bad luck with the DMV & SSC it would be a great morale booster to have her EAD show up in the mail. The only thing she has is her medical insurance card.
20. We received our interview appointment letter, for 04/04/06, this weekend. Still no EAD so it looks as if I spent $175 for nothing.

22. I doubt it. I did my naturalization about 10 years ago and I didn't have to step any flag. 191485 That's what he said. Also he said he was an officer in the PH army. He could be very well full of crap. 191515 So full of it his eyes turned brown??? Don't think even YEARS and YEARS ago that the US Imm. Service would expect this- desecreting one of our long term allies flag??? Likewise I knew HUNDREDS of natrualized Phillipinos, from various eras working in the Shipyards- both my son and daughter are married to Filipinos w/ very large extended families- never heard of this before. Ex and daughter were Natrualized in late seventies. WAS very easy back then for them. BUT just like VO's in GUZ your interviewer's personality can vary! 191530 He was a fun guy at office parties and liked to chase the girls.
23. The SSC is very interesting. We've applied twice and the card has never showed up. I would not be surprised if it shows up in the mail after our case is approved. If not, we will go in for #3. But you can relax now since your wife has a "status". I've found that once the date on the entry card has passed, you seem to go into a zero (illegal?) status.
