  1. I have a Chinese friend that lives here in Las Vegas and wants to renew her chinese passport in Los Angeles instead of San Francisco. Does anyone know if and how this can be done? Thanks
  2. An application support center? So, she can go to that center closest? That sounds great - compared to having to travel to California. When the request is issued for biometrics, how long is generally given to comply? As far as future employement, I agree massage parlors are not a good option. This option was only a consideration before this trouble.
  3. Well - the I-751 is submitted, and I anticipate they will be requesting more information on the pending case in Houston and an interview before they would remove restrictions. Question: when they send the biometric "finger printing"... what is the wondow for going to have this done, and will they instruct her to go to the USCIS where the petition was mailed? By the way - my wife and I discussed career options many times together, and a massage therapist was favored possibility. I have several friends wives here in Vegas that make very good "legitimate" money doing this. That she chose to try this (against my advice) in Houston is due to her being naive, and very typical husband-wife independence. My immigration attorney here in Vegas told me he had many cases where women were arrested because they would NOT give free sex to police that felt they were entitled to it. This IS America isn't it? Innocent until proven guilty. I choose to believe my wife.
  4. When I get a chance to explain all of this it should prove interesting and if successful - useful. Previously we had a lot of problems as I believed she only wanted to marry me to help her son. Though this other motive was true, it was not the only reason she married me, and as I thought about the motive it wasn't something bad, merely human. She has had a major goal of helping her son (and relations) in China that are struggling. So, she very much wanted to work again this year but Vegas is in a bad way economically and there were no jobs. A friend (turns out to be a bad one) offered her a job in Houston at her restaurant. After several weeks of work there this "friend" suggested she work in her massage parlor. I told her not to do this, but if she liked when she returned to Vegas I would put her into a school and she could get a job eventually. She often doesn't like to listen to me. Anyway turns out this new job was a setup. Police came in, didn't speak english and made acusations that she didn't even understand. This friend then hooked her up with an attorney that I soon discovered was doing everything he could to deepen the problem and exttract money. I now have a good criminal attorney for her in Houston, and consult with an immigration attorney here. The past week has been very difficult for her, very difficult! She has not wanted to live and I am trying to be as supportive as I can. I feel confident that she will be aquitted of the charges, but in a state like Texas this is never a slam-dunk. I am also aware of the trouble that comes with the moral charge while pending. I realize if we can get an aquittal the chances of keeping her here are non-existant. If anyone has any experience with this kind of situation I would be very grateful! How to walk this tightrope while the charges are only pending and the I-751 petition is in process... ???
  5. Thanks for the input! She was wrongfully arrested for prostitution and resisting arrest. I'm confident that she will be aquitted, but I have been told to avoid stating this charge on the petition, and to be more general but not mis-state any facts. Yes, I'm certain there will be an interview. Meantime she will be staying in Houston as the court likes to reset every 3 weeks. Does this temporary residence require a residence notice? thanks for all your help
  6. The I-751 application is due. The wife was just arrested in Houston (mostly because the police were conducting a sting and she doesn't speak English) The charges should ultimately be dropped, but one of them is an immigration issue. I need to report the arrest on the application, but how much do I say? The case is a couple months from being settled. any help on this one?
  7. Prevention is always the best cure........for the rest of the men who are trying to find chinese wives.......what would you say are the warning signs, if any? How does one see through it all? Good luck to you in the future ! Warning Signs: 1) She is in poverty and so are her children 2) She eagerly agrees that she should keep her working income and you pay all expenses. 3) She doesn't show any fear about moving to the USA 4) She is evasive when you ask questions about what she does. 5) She tells you she loves you quickly, but won't admit that she really wants to immigrate. Wanting to immigrate would be normal, if unhappy with current opportunities, but not admitting this is where the deceit started for me. 6) You find that answers she gives are not candid, but very carefully said, so as not to get you upset or concerned. These would have to be the biggest warning signs I saw, but chose to exuse away.... if it smells like the toast are burning, they probably are! I married a woman that was 49. Didn't marry to get someone younger. It might be a good idea to give those of us who have had a bad experience a little more benefit of the doubt.
  8. A divorce means very little when you have sponsored someone. You need to study the I-864. Basically you have a huge financial obligation for a minimum of 10 years, more likely forever if the individual wants to hurt you. Right now I'm dealing with a terrible situation because my wife has demonstrated that telling the truth means very little. Only getting her Son to America has meaning. Think twice!
  9. So, within two weeks of arriving, we find out that Wenzhen has a detached retina. After the surgery she had to spend 7 days, 24/7 face down. Welcome to America.... the surgery was succesful and we are very thankful. Anyway, she has received her Permanent Residence card, and has a job offer. How long till we get the SSN application, and receive the SSN, so she can start working. It is a boredom thing, and that's not the best way to adjust to a new environment. any history on this? thanks!
  10. Sounds like a record. CONGRATULATIONS! Best Wishes!
  11. If you go to www.google.com, then click on the "language tools" link. It will take you to their translator. My wife writes letters in Chinese, I take the characters (line at a time), select - clip - paste; them into the appropriate section, then click for Chinese (simplified) to English. The translation comes out a bit "yoda" if you know what I mean. The words are kind of mixed around. Takes a little time to get used to understanding them well. hope this helps
  12. what has happened to CR1's, i did not know there has been a problem. i will be in tinjian to marry my Aping. then come home and file for 130 through VSC. Am I headed for trouble? I am 42 and she is 34 and we have already started piling up supporting documents. thx everyone 230318[/snapback] I wish I knew why the previous 3 CR1s had blue slips. If you read my post for today, you will see that the dry streak is ended. I think that CR1s may be subject to a little more scrutiny because it is the last chance immigration has to screen them. I hope to post additional preparation information as soon as possible. I didn't feel it was very appropriate until after the interview. My first piece of advice: Patience - patience - patience, and then patient preparation. Rush nothing! except the mail. (always express). Mail gets lost in China a little worse than it does here. Never include vitamin C (it's precious like gold) good luck!
  13. Question 1) How did we meet? - The internet. 2) Which website? - here she only knew the Chinese for the site not English.... date.com; at the moment she wept as she thought not knowing was a problem.... 3) Evidence of 1st chinese visit - now this one is a little interesting - she had lost all the receipts that I sent to her, including the air tickets. I had scanned these previously, so I sent the copies. She had only copies to show. 4) Asked to see a Copy of my passport and stamped page for first visit. 5) Asked to see my 2005 tax return. The return was submitted late as I have filed a W7 (taxpayer identification number). The W7, W2 and pay stubs were included. 6) Can I see emails. All our emails are written in Chinese with English translation (line by line). Translation courtesy Google. We had about 30 of the best emails in the Notebook, and another 120 separate. We have written over 3,400 emails... 7) Can I see photos? - photos all included date and identification information on the back. 8) The VO saw a "photo poem" I had sent to Wenzhen, and asked to see it. I had not even thought to include this, but evidently it interested the officer. 9) Does your husband speak Chinese? - Yes, but with a pronunciation only a wife could understand. 10) Congratulations! You are going to America!
  14. Wenzhen and I have worked hard to be prepared, but one never knows. 12 hours from now, our adventure and her experience hits high gear. Nerves have been getting rather tense.... hen jie zhong I promise that what ever the outcome I will try my best to list the questions and be clear on why the outcome may have been what it was. The recent history for CR1s is not too good, but maybe the tide will begin to change today. We all wait for many months, and then it all comes down to a few minutes. Mostly I pray for my sweethearts nerves.... I know eventually she will be here.
  15. Congratulations! What a happy day indeed. Did they ask you many questions? Best Wishes in your new life!
