1. We have the SSN but not the card. SSA says the card was mailed out twice (second request after not getting the card the first time). My wife talked to a Cantonese speaking rep via phone and was told to go to the office. Once in the office, the rep put an order in for the card to be delivered to the office but the order did not go through. Reason; she said INS will not authorize it and we will get it once the EAD goes through. Her I-94 expired on 01/12. We went through almost the same thing with the Ca DMV as they would not issue an ID because the I-94 would expire in less than 30 days. "Come back with the green card." It was a quiet ride home.
2. No big deal. Barbara Walters had trouble with R's and had a good career.
3. I paid my mother in law $999 and my sisters in law half that. Don't worry about the $$$$, you will have a great time.
4. Interesting; this is the response I just got: Application Type: I485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or to Adjust Status Current Status: On January 20, 2006, we received your response to our request for evidence or information. It is taking between 120 and 180 days for us to process this kind of case. However because preliminary processing was complete, the remaining processing time will be less than the maximum stated in this message. You will receive a written decision on this case.
5. Again, as I mentioned, I'm not able to read the address you posted so if you tried providing them with it, they likely could not read it either. Try translating the address to English and sending it to them again. 183970 100,076 Beijing, China 9,200 mailboxes 74 minute boxes 24 183972 You cannot deliver floweres to a Post Office Box in the USA either. You are going to need a "street address" just like you were told. 183973 damn, gona be hard, apparently all they have overthere in her work/home/village is po mailboxes. I will ask her 183974 Give them a phone number and they can call her to schedule a delivery.
6. We will go to Chinatown on 1/27 for the pre new years shopping, flowers and such. It should make her feel right at home.
7. Not every market is appreciating at the same rate. The coastal cities like Guangzhou, Shanghai, and Shenzhen are appreciating faster than the rest of the country. This means a real estate bubble just like the USA. Hong Kong property dropped like 30% during SAR's and Asian currency crisis. So my advice, if you're going to invest in China: do your homework before you invest and have a back-up plan. 183515 Correct: While touring Kali we spent about $2 on lunch for three including beer.
8. I get the impression much rides on the interview. It would be in your best interest to add your wife to you bills, bank, lease/mortage etc. to show proof of residence.
9. In retrospect, I should have included a complete inventory of my I-864 stuff. When I was on the phone with USICS, I asked if a photo copy of my W2 was OK since I am down to only 1 original and I did not want to give that up. I was told that photo copies are OK and bring originals to the interview for comparison.
10. I assmebled my packet with the petition first (check attached) and put the supporting docs in the same order as listed in the instructions. For the photos I left them in the "passport photo" envelope and dropped that into a sheet protector. I also used a sheet protector for the I-693. Then I used the ACCO Fastners and attached everything to a file folder. EAD on the left and AOS on the right with the cover letter on top. Here's the cover letter I used from this site: XXXXX XXXXXX XXXXX XXXXX Livermore, California 94550 U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services P.O. 11. Just got of the phone with USCIS. They told me if I had submitted the documents that are being requested, it is probably because they were misplaced. They also said to state they were in the original submission in my return letter. Good thing I made five complete packets. I'll get these out in the mail today and get the ball rolling again. Good suggestion David.
12. Wait till you have donkey skin fermenting on your kitchen counter for two days. "Good for Woman"
13. Not really. Just caught me at a bad moment. I've had my dinner and am starting to cool off and get back to a rational mode. Enjoy the Weekend
14. Most likley the employment thing is a canned response as it is in the preceeding paragraphs before the requested information is specified. I thought it would be best for me to give myself a cooling off period and order the certified transcripts from the IRS (about 10 days to process) before I fire off and send them my last original copy of my W2s. Perhaps we were singled out for hoop jumping. I'll give them a call and see what's up.
15. May want to play it safe and have her return to China after getting married and before the visa expires. Play by the rules.
16. Just Got A RFE for my I-864. They want W-2 and return for most recent tax year. They want an Employment Letter. These were in the packet that I sent but I will resend and also include an IRS transcript to make them happy. Also included was a note saying that my wife was ineligible for employment until 90 days after I submit the "missing" evidence. Did I just throw away $$$$ on the EAD?
17. I wouldn't worry too much about it. The Chinese government isn't going to do anything to slow the flow of the dollar or the yen into the country. It is more plausible that the US will impose travel restrictions to China on US citizens. Probably mask it as an "anti terror" thing. Maybe; just a paranoid thought.
18. It is also called silken chicken and is used more for medicinal cooking. It is used to boost the immune system and prevent colds in the winter. You can buy them at the 99 Ranch Market. The are smaller than a regular chicken and cost more $$$$. You should ask her about donkey skin; it is good for woman.
19. In my opinion a lawyer is a waste of money at this point in the process and should only be needed after your SO arrives in the US legally, should the government try to deport her. You should be able to file yourself with the resources available at this site or at VJ. For me, I used a service when I filed my I-129F because I was ignorant of the process then and have not yet discovered CFL. The service cost $350 (at that time) and did a good job. http://www.fianceevisas.net/ Since then I have become well educated in filling out forms and gathering supporting documentation. Good Luck on your Journey.
20. I'm the pot holder. She says "you hold this please".
21. Here's a link to a "Lucky Day" finder. http://www.fortuneangel.com/GoodEvents.htm It may come in handy if your SO follows the Chinese calendar.
22. Looks like Lijiang. http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/p/m/113731/
23. I picked up one for $20. Funny thing; only my shoes are outside.
24. Maybe you should ask what kind of physical. Ours just asked about medical history (prior vaccinations included), checked blood pressure and listened to her chest; about five minutes. He checked her x-ray and gave her two shots. In my view he conducted himself as a professional; I did not expect him to be a rubber stamp and just sign off..
