  1. You may try looking in the Panyu area as it is a few miles out of the city. Here's an example: http://english.ctrip.com/destinations/hote...?resource=11650
  2. I did it by mail and included a SA/Priority envelope. It only took two weeks.
  3. Don't forget to include your case number on the envelope and cover letter if it is not already there.
  4. Just a quick note for those who have interviews in the latter half of Oct. The Canton Trade Fair will be on. Hotel prices will jump through the roof so you should get ready for that. May see long lines at customs too if you use GZ as POE. Keep an eye on the cabbies to as they my think you are there for the Fair. $$$$$$
  5. I think that Jim is still here, under a new name, and bushy is gone (with no word as to why, except ). 157459[/snapback] Jim had a sad case. Maybe he wants to start fresh.
  6. Good job. We are still waiting. I have Little Sister on IM and will report soon.
  7. Keeping photo copies on hand would be a good idea. When I travel I make two sets of passport/visa, air tickets and credit cards.
  8. SO has interview in 24 hours. On a sad note; my mother passed today. Talk to "Litter Sister" and we will tell SO after interview. We will get this done.
  9. Not much more to add. It seems they pick on those with a divorce.
  10. Don't forget to try Moma Po's famous tofu while in Chengdu.
  11. Plan to spend the night in LA. It's still the rainy season in China so there is a good chance you outbound flight will be delayed. You should plan for a 3-4 hour buffer.
  12. Maybe they should have planned for a meeting in Canada. Not meeting your SO in person is a major red flag; denial is justified.
  13. Nothing major to report. She said the people at the hospital were nice. Will pick up packet on Wednesday.
  14. SO is getting her medical now. I'll call in the morning and see how it went and will post any info if deemed relevent.
  15. Your timeline puts you close to National Week, a heavy travel time in China. Have your SO do some checking as things are a bit different in China, like waiting for the last minute to book. I did book a one way ticket with Singapore online for my SO under an account I created in her name.
  16. I went to pick up my visa at the Chinese consulate in SF last Thursday and it was packed.
  17. I'm sure there has to be some sort of verification to ensure the petioner is real. It could be in the form of a "telemarketing" call or a knock on the door from the "Jehovas" (like in my case).
  18. At this point your petition has not been approved; therefore you don't have a leg to stand on. Immigration is not a right. If you stir things up now, you run the risk of being denied.
  19. Most people will take the risk. It will cost me $100 to cancel our tickets.
  20. I have a small bottle of Chinese water that I've carried with me since 1999. It has traveled to and from China nine times now. When I am home, I keep it displayed with my Chinese stuff and is visible when you enter my house. I call it my "lucky water". I guess I'm covered.
  21. You may want to plan a visit to China. It takes you away from this stuff. Yunnan is great in the Fall & Winter.
