My interest are my Lao Po and the life I am going to share with her, her niece and my son.
  1. Please, Please get to know her very well. I think many people become attached to the wrong person. Also if you are not familiar with the culture try and read up on as best you can. That is my advice and good luck. Carl
  2. Hello Folks can someone tell me how long does it take from the date that you do your biometrics to swearing the oath? My wife has her PR card, but she is under the thinking that it will be no more than 3 months. Any ideas? Carl
  3. What if the father adopted the daughter, does he need to file an N-600? What if the wife is not naturalized yet? Carl
  4. I am not sure this helps but for future reference, when I adopted my 13 year old daughter, she became eligible for US passport. I was also told when she goes back to china, they will punch a hole in her Chinese passport. I don¡¯t want there to be any question about her citizenship so I am filing a certificate of citizenship with Immigration so there will be no questions in the future. Carl If her parents are Chinese, they may choose either China or US. I believe if her parents choose Chinese, then the girl could at the age of 18 choose American.
  5. Hey Crew Thank you all, I will try them out and see. I will keep you all posted. Carl I've used these folks three times in less than a year and they've been absolutely great. I'm going to Tampa, FL from Chengdu this November, then returning in December, but I'm departing from Raleigh, NC, and returning to Chengdu.... not exactly what you'd call a round-trip Total cost including taxes, fees, etc, etc was only $1206
  6. Hello Crew Can anyone point to a site where I can get cheap tickets for mother inlaw coming from china? Carl
  7. That is great to hear. I really thought it would be difficult to get a tourist visa. She also had to show assets and other legal paperwork. I am hoping my wife's sister can come as well next year. She is married and has a son. I think she has no problems demonstrating ties to china. Her husband is "party member"..hahaha Carl
  8. Hello Folks My wife's mother got her visa to visit us. The whole process took about one month. She told my wife the the interview went well. VO was nice and ask her several questions. He ask what my name was, where I lived, why she wanted to come to America and how long she wanted to stay. The security guards helped her to the window and it took about 4 minutes. They gave her a one year visa. Carl
  9. Hello Gang Got a questions, My daughter now has a US Passport. The adoption came through, I took her documents, Greencard, chinese birthcertificate and chinese passport to the US postal and filled out and application. They sent us a passport in 6 days, but they sent back her greencard and she still has her chinese passport. Now I dont want her to have dual citizenship and from what I understand, china and the US does not recognize this, so what do I do with her chinese passport? She will never use it again, nor do I want her to bring it with her when she goes to china this summer. Should we turn it over the chinese athorities or drop it off when she goes back to china? For the sake of jobs and possible future careers, I dont want there to be any question of her citizenship. Carl
  10. Hey Well the wire transfers went well, My sis-inlaw had to do Three transfers, one after another..hahah Sis, mom and then dad. They all hit my bank within 6 hours. But I asked my bank why I was shorted $40, they responded that it routed through another bank so they took a cut. Carl
  11. The BOC told my sister-inlaw in china that she could not transfer that amount at once. They could only do 50,000.00 yuan at a time. So we will have to do this in 3 moves. I will keep you all posted. Carl
  12. Hello Gang My wife family wants to send us some cash which belongs to my wife. Her sister will go to Bank of China and wire transfer $20,000.00. Is there anything we need to look for? Is there any IRS rules that need to be adhere to? Will we have to pay taxes on this sum of money? I have been reading that if the sum is over 10k, the Bank as to notify the US Govt. Carl
  13. Ok So what you are telling me is, I can go to the post office and apply for a passport with out getting a certificate of citizenship from USCIS? How is this possible? I thought you had to become a citizen then apply to get a passport? If I go to the post office and apply for a passport what documents do I need? I have the final decree of adoption, her birth records from china, and documentation of how long she has been here. If I can do this fast, then she goes back to china this summer a US Citizen..haha Carl Carl Don't waste the $420 with the N-600, there is a much easier way and faster way to do this with an adopted child. Child Citizenship Act Program Update Adopted children meeting the two-year custody requirement This is based on the first day she entered the US. You can skip the N-600 along with it's fee and go directly to the Post Office and file for a US Passport. Go to How to Apply in Person for a Passport you can download form DS-11 or complete it online. See the Last item in section B under Proof of Citizenship, APPLICATION FOR A U.S. PASSPORT Congratulations Daddy.
  14. thanks Let me check out the link and see whats needed. Carl
  15. Hello I have a question, I have officially adopted my step-daughter and given her my last name, Does she have to wait to become a citizen, or can I file for a certificate of citizenship for her? She has her Green card, SS number. If so, what documents will I need to file this with Immigration? I have read that she can basically skip the process and become a citizen because I am a citizen? Carl
