From what I have experienced planning ahead is one of those cultural differences. I like to get everything planned out. Even to the contingency plans. All I get in answer is "You think too much". So Jim, you think too much! Everything will work out. Suggest the SH hospital idea then forget it and leave it to her.

Ping also decided to take the physical after arriving in GZ for the interview. Rushed schedules seem to be the norm in China and there rarely seems to be a mess up. So relax leave it to her and enjoy the ride. A friend had same day service in Beijing. I don't think there should be any problem with next day.

I'd let her know. If you don't she may wonder if your mood is caused by something she did. My Mom died three days before I took off for my first trip to China. She had been the one in the family most supportive of my long time dream to visit China. Before she went into coma we had talked about my preparations. She had told me to take plenty of pictures. Up to a week before the trip I had hoped to show them to her when I got back. I took plenty anyway and saw many things I know she would have liked. Like your Uncle she would have been very upset had I changed plans because her life was ending. So I am doing my best to live it fully. There have been many changes since and more coming. So tell her and drink a toast in Guangzhou together to him. I'm sure he will enjoy that.

Maybe I read a different sheet of facts . I think it just boils down to attitude. Particularly since the facts are on paper and in a VO's head that we aren't privy to. All I know is that my SO knows how to deal with officials and has been studying English for two years. She is well prepared. If we face additional delays (I wouldn't call it failing) we will deal with it. I would much prefer though that we pass this stage on schedule.

Maybe I read this wrong but I thought it simply referrred to being misinterpreted as being critical of the SO's clothing by the SO. Could lead to a mop slap. I don't think Ping would would argue about being told to go out and get a new outfit though. But as much as she likes to shop she also isn't wasteful. Others have also mentioned this endearing quality of Chinese women . I have noticed that intentions have been misconstrued by interpretation on the board. We do come from different up bringings and are individuals. No reason to jump to conclusions though. Even those who have been the center of contention at times on the board, I believe have made their comments with good intentions. Even innocent comments can be taken wrong when nerves are on edge. This process does that. Some of us have different ways of dealing with and expressing it. I haven't met anyone here that hasn't posted with the hope of making this process easier on themselves and others. Even if they can't resist rubbing a little salt on the wound at times

Too bad the massage room wont be open or even the Korean restaurant. THe International Airport was moved to Incheon which is near Seoul three years ago before the World Cup. Are you sure you fly into Seoul?

Are you taking Korean Air? I've used them for each of my flights. If you like curry type dishes, the Asian Vegetarian meal is always very good and is brought before the others. You have to reserve special dietary meals over 24 hours in advance. At Incheon go to the second floor to get a massage. It is very good. If you are too early for the massage before your plane leaves do pay for the shower and put a change of clothes in your carry on. You will arrive in China feeling good, shaved and odor free.

Jim what are you bringing with you to help pass time on the plane? You are fraying at the edges. Now concentrate on the mystical blue thingie and everything will be all right.

Calm down Jim! I am sure the hospital doctors and nurses would find the story of your relationship interesting but they just don't have time to listen to all that while doing the physical. The VO will ask for evidence if there is any question about the validity of the intent to marry. They are looking for fraud not soap opera material. Since you are there and she can show your passport with the visa stamps ( and perhaps travel tickets in both of your names?) You probably wont get a chance to reveal your story and many pics.

I don't know I can only use Asian languages at work because of a corruption on my home PC ggggrrrrrr . Now I must really get it fixed soon.

Congratulations. I' m glad it went so well for you. Now you can relax. I doubt they have much time to pour over the cases before interview. I guess it is just a matter of whether or not anything sets red flags (no pun intended) going for the VO. Anyway I'm glad it went so easy.

So what would be the problem with a late July appointment? Private industry would have everything set up, move the last things over the weekend and open on Monday. Ok this is government so maybe it would stop things for a week. I thought they were moving things in stages anyway and only the Visa section is moving. The Chinese Consulate in L.A. moved to another building and was closed two days. But then they always close saturday and sunday.

I always put down something of course with China how do they know what you brought with you and what you bought in China? I would declare any electronics, jewelry and traditional Chinese gifts or keepsakes. Be reasonable about the value. Even customs knows things are cheap in China. As long as you list a couple hundred dollars total or more I don't think anyone will question it. Unless the $50 Ming carved jade vase makes them suspicious.

Gee I hope Fang persuaded them not to deport Trigg. What if they required all the answers spelled correctly
