  1. Does anyone have any experience with the above topic? If a person's work card has expired, and he/she still does not have the green card, what if the person keeps on working with the expired card?
  2. My personal opinion is to not use DORA. We filed 02/05 and still have not received the green card yet. It is now 21 months. I don't know how the rest of the uscis is, but Dallas seems to be arrogant, incompetent, **&^%%%&***(((((&&^^&. I don't expect good service from anyone-I will be OK with mediocre service. Dallas gives NO SERVICE. DO IT BY MAIL. SAVE THE FRUSTRATION.
  3. received their green card yet. If a person has a one year work card and it expires while they are still working-and the green card has still not been issued-what should a person do? Should they leave the job until the new work permit is received? It looks like it takes 90 days to get the new work permit. Would it affect the I-485 application if they are working without having a valid work permit?
  4. We are sorry to hear about losing your uncle, but glad for Heaven's gain-and your Uncle's gain. I found the Chinese people to be very mature and comforting in their acceptance of death. My wife told me of the time that her beloved Wei po (maternal grandmother) died. They gave her a bath and dried her off. They dressed her in her best clothing and put her to bed. She died soon thereafter. They buried her at the top of a mountain, which is a procedure Chinese like to follow if possible. They are a wonderful people, and we are so lucky to have found wives from there. Drink a toast to your uncle, remember him fondly, let the positive influences from him and his memory be a comfort to you. Good luck with your Chinese treasure.
  5. I am amazed at how I just have to keep on learning about China and it's ways. My wife and I were talking about our home in China recently, and she said "you know that we can only own it for 70 years don't you?" I have always been proud of the fact that we own a fully paid for home with no yearly property taxes. Now I find out that the ownership expires in 70 years. It looks like you, or whoever you sell it to can only live there/own it for 70 years. If you own it for 30 years and sell it, then you are selling the remainder of the 70 year period-in this example-40 years. Sure does add another dimension to the situation.
  6. This is probably a strange topic for this board, but oh well. I refinanced my(our) home last week from the 20 years left of a 30 year mtg to a 10 year mortgage. I did not trust my last wife enough to put her on the deed to the home. When it came down to the time to sign the papers, I faced a decision. I was surprised that it wasn't all that hard to make the decision to put my wife on the deed to our home. I am so glad that I did it. I found that I have total trust in this woman, and wanted to show her how much I trusted her. It isn't something I would recommend for everybody, but it sure seemed right for us.
  7. I assume you did tell them you didn't want ALL the seats on the plane right? :-) Air China has reasonable fares from west coast cities. Korean Air with it's code share partner Delta has reasonable fares also. F(orget) American and United. They are so outrageous they smell. Continental can sometimes also be reasonable.
  8. My 2 cents-for what it is worth. I want to say that I can't understand the person who said he "couldn't understand" why someone would want to live in China-but then I have come to realize how the stereotypical american thinks. I don't want to be in the US anymore. I can't wait till it's time to retire and get the hell outta here. People in China are ALIVE!!!!! They live each day, and it is a wonderful place to be. I am not oblivious to the problems, and the difficulties for me/the Chinese people. In my opinion China is just like the US was in the 50's and 60's-before we became powerful and rich. Our power and wealth has destroyed america, and if it is to become anything worthwhile again, it will require we reinvent ourselves, and do so with a leadership that is different and better than the perverted, subversive people now in government. This filth has shown us what they are all about. They have the time to rush back to Washington to pass legislation to further the agony of a woman who died 15 years ago, but no time to discuss the impending train wreck of our economy and such things as the price of oil, health care for the living, etc. We have 300 billion to spend on killing/war but no money for the essentials of life. How pathetic. COME ON CHINA.
  9. Our goal is to spend time in China after I retire, if not full time, a good part of the year. I still have not been able to find out how much time I can spend in China as a husband of a Chinese woman. Anybody know anything about that? Also, can she add my name to her deed on her home? I am so looking forward to that time, to travel in China, Tibet, and SE Asia. I figure that by then the US will have become totally unacceptable, unlivable by then due to the fascist, subversive, criminal elements in the congress and executive branch.
  10. My wife has a home we own in a city in China. She says there are no taxes on the home, like we have here in the USA. Some of you are talking about taxes on homes in China. Wonder which is correct. She says there are taxes on the home when you buy it, but there are no taxes after that.
  11. Yes.I agree with you.But I think the american who buy real estate in china, they just want to have a home in china, not for real estate business.I think if sb.have large money,he may think over this business. But not now. That is 3 or 5 year later.Because real estate price is real very high in these years. If sb. start to get this business, he must lost money. meirong
  12. I'm a chinese.Tell me what kind of difficulties you encountered.Maybe I can give you some suggestions. But I know the price of real estate is very high in china.Chinese expert of real estate say the foam of chinese real estate has been in china. After 3 0r 5 years, the price will be down.I don't why your wife suggest you buy real estate in china now. I remember my husband had this idea.I stopped him.
  13. Congratulations on your weight loss, and your healthier life. I was 242 and 6 ft tall when my wife and I came back to america in October of last year. Now it is March 10, 2005 and I weigh 204 and headed downward. I adhere to the concepts of the South Beach Diet book and want to tell you that the weight is all in the CARBOHYDRATES. For the first two weeks I eliminated carbs from my diet. Now I have let them back in a little bit. I feel healthier, look better, and am amazed at how I feel. My wife is a wonderful cook. I have lots of fish and vegetables. I am NEVER hungry, eat a lot, and still lose weight. No bread, pasta, potatos, soda, candy, cake, pies, sugar, etc. You can find good tasting substitutes. You will live longer to enjoy that wonderful gift from China. Good luck.
  14. If a person marries a Chinese woman in June of 2004 and she does not come to the US until the NEXT year, can the US taxpayer claim "married filing jointly" status when filing his 2004 taxes? IRS publication 519 seems to say you can, but one of the "frequently asked questions" seems to contradict that possibility, while one of the questions seems to indicate you can do that.
  15. I found, recently that my wife owns a very nice apartment in China. It is free and clear. I have some questions that maybe someone can help me with. She says that it is not insured. She says that most insurers in China charge too much for insurance, and don't pay when there is a claim. Can we get a foreign insurer with a good reputation that might insure our home there? When the time comes to move there from america, what can a person expect in the way of visa extensions, or a semi permanent visa to spend time there?
