  1. Best of the best? Dude, I've had a couple hundred CAs and CEs and 99% of those were via a slick with a chopper jockey on the stick. Not always in cold LZs. In Hue a slick jockey saved 7 of us after his bird was shot to hell and turbo smoking. Long story but he was awarded the MH for it. Anyone who goes into harms way for his brothers was the best of the best!
  2. Wili I have to repel out of it or just jump when you get 10 feet from the ground? If all goes well I can get the form and snatch the ambassador! ahhh, the good ole days.
  3. She has been getting the retirement money for 5 years, Being a US citizen doesn't matter but now they want proof she is alive. The embassy is 700 miles from here and I'm too old to walk that far. I'm sure there is some kind of notarized form but don't now where to get it or where to send it-adding to the ever growing list of things wifey says I don't know!!
  4. Would someone much smarter than me explain how to prove my wife is alive? she has been a US citizen for 5 years. She has been getting her Chinese retirement money sent to a bank in China. Now the Chinese Gov wants proof she is alive. She's a bit slow sometimes but I'm pretty sure she's alive. Are there forms or procedures other than going 700 miles to the Chinese embassy? /
  5. We are proud to announce a new website, Chinafamilyvisa.com, that is dedicated to the dissemination and discussion of information pertaining to the ¡®China Connection¡®. Much like other sites with similar missions, it will be a place to learn, a place to pass time while waiting and a place to meet and bond with those of similar interests. Chinafamilyvisa.com is in no way meant as a replacement for CFL or any other site with a similar mission. We are not attempting to compete with, take away from, or diminish CFL in any way. We feel the missions of Candleforlove and of Chinafamilyvisa are extremely important. Competition would only serve to diminish this mission and is NOT our purpose. We are simply offering an alternative to other sites. A site that in many ways is the same but brings a different philosophy with it. Different does not mean better-it simply means different. We will always have respect for CFL and for what it has given us. We are open to all comers and welcome questions, comments, and lively debate. Why start a new site? Good question! The answer is simple, no single site can be all things to all people. Varying sites with differing views and yet maintaining parallel missions should help to serve even more of those who are in any stage of running the gauntlet we call immigration. We look forward to seeing you there. Trigg and the family from Chinafamilyvisa"
  6. It doesn't mean that you have an interview date then. It means that the petition expires in 4 months. DO NOT PANIC!! Guz automatically renews it as no one ever gets an interview that fast!! Just more bureaucratic crap.
  7. I've got Vista on one computer and XP on the other four. Vista sucks!! It's slow and over does the protection thing--It's a royal pain. XP is light years better!
  8. There's only one community college within 150 miles (although it has satellite schools). You are correct, I should probably do that. First let me clarify. My stepdaughters scholarships were not based on my income-they were academic. She can also get $11,000.00 per year from the VA for four years but we elected not to take that as she plans on grad school so we're saving it. She is now in community college-a great choice as her scholarships cover all of it plus she gets an extra $3,000. per year for gas 'n such. Community college is VERY affordable and all of her first two years will transfer to a major college. Her degree will be from the major college (she is going to the same community college I went to before transferring to WKU and eventually to grad school). Scholarships are very different than fed aid. Fed aid is mostly income based. Unless you make less than 50K yearly, you likley won't be eligible for anything UNLESS she can get listed as an independent student-then they base it on her income. Not so easy to do though. At any rate, assuming she is a senior in HS this year, talk to her guidance counselor. It is their job to find her a scholarship. You will be amazed how many are available-even for C students. good luck
  9. On a side note-If she absolutely needs the green card, Maybe, just maybe, USCIS will do a 551 stamp for you!?!?!?!?
  10. As long as she has a green card their is no problem. My stepdaughter is in college on a full ride. YES!! you can fill out the FAFSA forms and YES she will be eligible as long as she is a legal resident, NOT an international student!!! Of course your income is taken into account but at the minimum, you and she will be able to get loans etc..
  11. I've got the Garmin nuvi 850. It speaks Chinese and works great. It is pricey because you can also talk to it but it is so easy to use (touch screen etc) that there is no need to speak to it. The Garmin Nuvi 750 is exactly the same except you can't speak to it-Lee has the 750 and loves it. You can get the 750 on Ebay, new in the box-not a refurb- for around $200.00. Sam's club has them for $300.00 but why do that -hit Ebay. It's got the big screen and is SIMPLE to operate.
  12. I did the same thing. They processed it, sent us a biometrics appointment and now we are waiting for the RFE. No big deal!
  13. Her name is Maura Hardy (sp). I have her address someplace-I'll look for it.
  14. Funny guy. Like me, you know how hard it can be to communicate to a non-technical person in English about internet connections, computers, and so on. There is nothing worse than trying to explain to my wife, or ask my wife to take a moment and help me navigate menus. "Honey, what does that say?" "What does what say?" "That little button right there, what does it mean in English?" "How can I know? I think it means go around?" "Go around? Are you sure?" "I think so." "Do you see a button that says Menu?" "How can I know?" "I mean, don't you see a button that means like Main, or Menu, or List or something like that?" "I don't know these things. Why do you ask me?" In short, she's a very sweet lady and I love her with all my heart. She just gets intimidated with tech-stuff. Regarding the connection, I thought I explained that in my first post, but let me try again. Connection type: DSL. The incoming connection to the house is on the same line as our landline telephone. You plug directly into a telephone jack with a telephone cable that plugs directly into a telephone jack on the router supplied by the internet / telephone company. Router: The router is wireless, with four hardwire ports available on the back. It functions like a dial up connection, PPPoE configuration to the PC. The box is password protected with a username provided by the internet company, with the password being our telephone number. Try network magic. It's free and you can download it online. It will tell you who and what is on your network. The paid version allows you to regulate your network.
