  1. The problem we have now, is that she petitioned to bring her adopted 18 year old son here, (i-130) and it was rejected due to lack of proof that they lived together for more than two years. He lived with her and her father most of his life. Li came to America with me, the son stayed with her father, but he has since passed away, and the boy wants to come live here with us now. What can we do? Someone told us if we go for the appeal, it could take 3 years! They also said that it may be best to re-petition for him, but have me be the petitioner this time and not my wife? Is there any way to do this, and not have it take forever? Please help.....Ron Meldrum
  2. The K-2 follow to join limit is one year from the date your wife entered the country. Depending on his age on Dec 30, 2007 (the date you got married) - you can file an I-130 for your step-son (child for immigration purposes), and he could be here within a few months to a year - IF he wasn't yet 18 on that date. If he was already 18, your wife would have to file (the wait for a child of an LPR is MUCH longer) He was 16 when we filed the K1 She will be here 2 years in December. And yes, he is now 18
  3. Can anyone help? As you can see from our timeline that we went thru all the proper steps to get Li here and now has 2yr Green Card. She wants to bring her 18yr old son here now, an we are not sure how to go about it on our own. He didnt want to come here back when she did, but now wants to come and give it a try. Any help or advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks, Ron
  4. We had a 9am appointment today, downtown Detroit, for Li's Green Card. I brought a whole bag of stuff with me, and they didnt ask to see any of it. Approved with very few questions!! Wow, one year sure flys when your having fun
  5. My wife Li Ping is from Harbin too! We were at the Ice Festival in 2007. (see my photo gallery) We will be married one year this Tuesday the 30th of December. We live in Detroit. Ron and Li Ping
  6. Best of luck to you both! It's hard to believe we were in your shoes just one year ago..... We will be celebrating our one year wedding anniversary on December 30th
  7. Yes, I agree with the others. Your gonna need about a week in GZ. It's not a bad city to be stuck in....there is lots to see and do there. We stayed at Mr.Yangs also. It was a nice time to just be together before going to Harbin for the wedding dinner, then rushing back to the U.S. Enjoy it!
  8. Congatulations to you both!! Enjoy you new life together.
  9. Hello everyone! Happy Thanksgiving to All! My wife just got her drivers license, and will soon get a car. She told me they have GPS units here in the U.S.(Detroit, Michigan) that will also speak in Madarin Chinese language....Can anyone help, or make a reccomendation of one? I see a lot of advertising for Garmin, and TomTom. Was hoping to find one no more than $200, if possible. Thanks for your help......if you can. Ron & Li Ping
  10. Whatever you both decide, Good Luck to you, and remember, PAITENTS and ORGANIZATION are what will get you through this process. Welcome to CFL! Lot's of great advice here.
  11. Hi everybody, sorry but it has been a very busy New Year so far. We were married in December, filed all paperwork with USCIS, waiting to get green card/employment auth./and travel document. We had to go downtown for biometrics finger prints and picture in early March. Status online says "RECEIVED AND PENDING". In Michigan you need all that before they will issue you a SS#, and without a SS#, they wont let you take driving test for a permit. What a pain! Li get's impatient with all of this sometimes, because she just doesnt understand the way things work here. She said it's "stupid" LOL..............I tend to agree, but what more can I do? She wants to drive, and wants to get some sort of job to keep herself busy. I work over 50 hours a week so she is here alone all day. Evening ELS classes are her only diversion from all of this, so thank God for that. On a more happy note, We are planning a trip to Disneyworld in Orlando, May 22nd till May 26th. (kind of a honeymoon that we never had a chance to take) If anyone from CFL is going to be there, or in the area let me know. We are staying at the Hilton in the Downtown Disney area. Talk to ya all soon Ron & Li Ping
  12. Hi everybody, as you can see from our timeline, things have been moving right along. Li had her biometric appointment on March 7th, and they just took her picture and fingerprints. Any ideas on how long before all this is complete? AOS/Employment authorization/and Travel document? SS office said no SS# until she has work permit. Li has been attending ELS classes here now since February, 4 nights a week. She has nothing to do during the day when I am at work, so I always feel kind of bad for her. Oh, well Im sure it wont be this way for long.
  13. Li and I will be going for her Biometrics appt. on 3-7-08 in downtown Detroit. (about a half hour drive)
  14. I was wondering, what are the correct steps to take once you are home with your fiance? I already filed for a marriage licence, and will be married in the next 30 days. #1- get married (and she wants to take more English classes) #2- apply for SS card #3- file for AOS #4- she wants to work #5- she needs to learn to drive.....etc, etc Any advice would be appreciated!! Thanks guys, Ron & Li Ping
