  1. I'm sorry for forgetting to mention his age. He was over 21 when we married. I know I have two options - I was just unsure of the (average) time frame for both these options. I didn't even know how many years until she can become a citizen until Lee mentioned it above/ So now I know I can wait the 3 years and let her apply as a citizen OR file now and see if a visa comes available to him before the 3 years??? But my big question is if we can stop this process (if it runs over 3 years) and then re-apply as a citizen??? Thanks, Scott
  2. Hello, Now that my wife has finally received her green card - I have the next hurdle to jump: She has a son who wants to also come to the US. I understand we can wait until she becomes a citizen and apply for his visa, and get it immediately - OR we can file now and wait until a visa becomes available to him. My question is which way will most likely be the fastest way to get him here? If we file now - and he still has not received a visa by the time she becomes a citizen - can we then stop that process and file new papers to get him here immediately? Thanks, Scott
  3. Carl, I have to disagree with you a bit. In my case - my wife speaks almost 0 (zero) english and I definately speak 0 (zero) chinese. We just flew through the entire process including our interview this month. The VO never even asked how we communicate....... It has to be something else. My opinion is a bit different - I think LUCK plays a big factor. Lucky draw of the right VO and everything that goes with it. Are they having a good day? Do they like you? Do you look and smell good? ha ha ..... I just think that as long as the documents are in order - the only other factor can be just pure simple LUCK OF THE DRAW!!! Scott
  4. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!! FEELS GOOD DOESN'T IT?
  5. Sorry - I put this in the wrong section - please move it - I tried to delete it, but couldn't. Hello, I live in florida. My wife wants to get a drivers license. But she does not speak english - at least not enough. Do they issue drivers licenses to such persons? How do we get around the language barrier? Thanks, Scott
  6. David, Just a quick question: By this post I get the understanding that when your wife calls you to dinner - she expects you to immediately come..... Is this correct? My wife seems to get very aggrivated if I do not immediately come to the dinner table - Is this a common trait of the Chinese woman??? Thanks, Scott
  7. I am currently completeing my probation as a result of a felony. We filed K-3. It never came up anywhere during the entire process. See my timeline - I don't feel it even slowed anything at all - we went through in better time than most. I would say it is of little importance - it should not stop you from getting her a visa. But with that said - by all means be sure your SO knows all the details of this up front - let her decide if she still wants to be with you. This is very important as I have been told Chinese women do not choose to be with people who have committed crimes. But if she does really love you - she will take you as you are!
  8. You ask for views...... My view is that do what is best for your SO! If she is like most Chinese women - she probably prefers to marry in China where it can be witnessed and enjoyed by her friends and family. I wouldn't make the decision on how many months you can save doing it a different way - do what will make her and you more happy. Scott
  9. Yes, state issued drivers license or identification card.
  10. Hello All, Just an update on our AOS interview... And I will tell details of how it went and what was asked and asked for, etc. WE DID PASS!!! Yea Yea Yea The process only took 1/2 hour from the time we arrived until we walked out the door. Interview was maybe 10 minutes. To address the camera issue (that has been discussed lately), We were in the Jacksonville FL office and there were only 2 cameras in the waiting room - and I could tell by the layout that there was no way these cameras could see everybody - therefore I don't suspect they watched our behavior prior to being called back to the office. Only one thing happened that was negative: They asked the translator (we had with us to translate) for her state issued identification........ She didn't have one - she had only brought her passport. I thought it was over at that point. The interviewer kept saying she needed a state issued identification - not a passport. But she finally accepted the passport - and it continued. I was very nervous by this time. These are the documents she asked to see: (she looked at these and handed them back) 1) My divorce decree 2) My wifes divorce decree 3) My marriage booklet 4) My wifes marriage booklet 5) My wifes birth certificate 6) My birth certificate Then she asked to have a copy of: (she kept this for the file) 1) My 2005 income tax return What surprised me the most is that she did not ask to see any document that would indictate or prove that my wife and I live together or share any accounts together - no bank statement, no lease, no nothing!!! She also did not ask to see any photogarphs!!! Wow - weird. It was as if it was already determined (prior) that we were to pass and that she was merely looking at things to prove that we are actually legally married - and then to have the updated income tax records for our file - that's all. Anyway - they asked the following questions: 1) How did we meet? 2) Did I enjoy visiting China? 3) Asked me if I was happy with my mariage? 4) Then asked my wife if she was happy with the marriage? 5) And then asked about half of the questions that are on the I485. (are you a commie, terorist, etc) I think that was all that was asked. So it is all over - she placed the stamp in my wifes passport and told us to expect the actual 2 year green card soon. She said most likely we will not have to return in two years to get the 10 year card. She indicated that they only randomly choose some applicants to return for the 10 year card. She just said to keep good records should they be asked for in the case we are called back in for the 10 year card. So that's it. I hope this helps anybody who is still awaiting their AOS interview. Oh one last thing - we were the only people in the large waiting area that had large quantities of documents - The most I saw anybody else holding was maybe 10 to 20 pages of paper. I guess I was the only CFL person there - ha ha Thanks All, Scott
  11. I have it on both of my computers as well - not sure where we picked them up. But, I have tried everything I can think of - even called MS tech support - NOTHING WILL REMOVE IT. I intend to just re-format the drive soon and then will be rid of it. This is one powerful adware - I have deleted parts of the entire file - and they just keep coming back?????? Good luck. I will try the advise above - but if anybody else comes up with a way to remove it - I hope you will share it with us here! Thanks, Scott
  12. THANK YOU EVERYBODY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Using your advice I found a person both in Jacksonville and a local person as well to do this for us. You have no idea how releived I am!!! CFL - you are the greatest!!!!!!!!! Scott
  13. I called tasanet - they say they only work for lawyers! Scott
  14. My wifes best friend can speak both english and chinese - but my wife refuses to use her. It seems that her friend has had a run of bad luck lately and my wife feels that she has very bad luck. You know, the chinese people feel very strongly about LUCK and things of that nature. We have got to find somebody somewhere to do this..... I called the local university but with the students being out for summer am having no luck there. Any more ideas people????? Thanks, Scott
  15. Hello, I "kind of" asked this already in a earlier post - but got no replies of value. So I need to ask again: DOES ANYBODY KNOW OF ANY PERSON WHO CAN TRANSLATE FOR MY WIFE IN HER INTERVIEW IN JACKSONVILLE FLORIDA NEXT MONTH?????? Thanks, Scott
  16. I agree with #2 but the others I have no reason to beleive really exist. One thing I have learned from my SO is that she will not always say what is on her mind. It is like pulling teeth to get her to say anything negative about how she really feels. I guess it is the "Chinese" nature in her to not say anything unless it is good. My point in saying this is that perhaps she is not as happy as she might want me to think. Therefore one could go through an entire life with a Chinese woman and maybe not really know her daily thoughts and feelings - although I try very hard to get her to be more open about her feelings. I may not have a typical Chinese wife - but I tend to feel (from what she has said) that many Chinese ladies are this same way. Best advise is to constantly ask her how she feels because I don't think she will say voluntarily. m-coon
  17. You may be forced to relocate to an area that offers more pay for someone with limited english ability. There are parts of the country where you can find pay over $10 per hour and a 60 to 80 hour work week (if she wants it) doing work such as housekeeping or restaurant work that requires little to no english. If you want to save this marriage - you may have to make this change. You need to decide what is most important to you: Move and make her happy or stay and risk loosing her??? Obviously you can better educate her to get her a better paying job there - but this will take more time. It sounds like that is a luxury that you do not have. It sounds like she wants action right now. If there is no better work there - you don't have many other options that will give you the results you need as quickly as you need them. Good luck on solving this problem. m-coon
  18. Hello, My wife went for her biometrics last week. Is there a general rule as to when the "work permit" will be sent out after the bio is completed? Also, I have heard others say that they received a green card without an interview. How often does this happen and what is the factor that controls whether a interview is performed or not? If a interview is needed - how far out is it usually scheduled? Thanks, Scott
  19. Does anybody know what happens if you report to the wrong office??? The website says to go to Jacksonville. The letter says New Orleans. I now know New Orleans is correct. BUT it is about 150 less miles if I drive to Jacksonville....... What do you think they will do if I go to Jacksonville and tell them the website told me I was to come there?????
  20. Roger, You have not mentioned about the lawyer in China (King)... Did he help you? Was he the one who figured out your problem? Or did you solve this problem via another source?
  21. The sign of a great Chinese woman is one who may not have understood the financial situation completely before moving here - but is so much in love or just so happy to be here with me - that she accepts it very well - and then says she will take a job to help with the finances!!!
  22. I contacted the DMV.. they told me that there were no translations - other than in Spanish. I contacted companies who charge you to help you get a license - they also said no Chinese version exists. And it is true that you can do all the extra class work on the internet. I was told they do not bother to verify if the person actually did this themselves. I figured if they question this - I will say I translated it all for my wife as the test was taken online. Neither of us consume alcohol - so it really is a waste of time for us anyway - it is all about alcohol and substance abuse while driving. Scott
  23. I'm glad I spent the 45 minutes (holding) on the phone today - because they informed me that the WEBSITE IS WRONG!!! They said they have recently opened a new office in the New Orleans area that is now up and running. Had I gone to another office - I would have been turned away!!! You would think that something as important as this would have been updated on the website....... Oh well, At least I did catch it before I made a huge mistake. I hope nobody else in this region makes the mistake. Scott
  24. Hello, I received the appointment letter for the wifes biometrics. The letter says to go to New Orleans......... the website says NOT to go to New Orleans - but to go to any other service center close to where you live. I am extremely confused!!!!!!! Does anybody know if the New Orleans office is doing any Biometrics??? Thanks, Scott PLUS..... How can I find the phone number for the office? I need to call them and cannot find any sercice center phone numbers!
