Is it possible or a bad idea to move to Canada during the K1 process? We submitted a few month ago and I'm awaiting the NOA2, but it's difficult not being able to see each other with all the travel restrictions. If she got a student visa to study English in Canada, and I got a NAFTA Professionals visa, could we live together in Canada and would they move the interview location to Canada as counting on being able to travel back and forth to China during this time is a little bit tenuous. Are there any pro/cons to this approach if it is possible. -
A year ago, my visiting scholar g/f went back home and I was supposed to meet her 2 weeks later in Shanghai, but travel has been banned and I haven't seen her in a year. We talk every day on Wechat and Skype. She was a J1 visitor with 2 year home rule residency requirement. She also has CCP party membership, but just a university teacher in a liberal arts subject, not involved with the government or military, and if she quits CCP she loses her job. We've decided we want to be together forever. I was told I could apply for the K1 today, and they would process starting now. If they finish before the 2 year requirement is met they will wait for it to be met and then issue the visa, so I don't have to wait for it to be met and then apply and wait for the K1 to process. We're worried about the CCP membership with everything Trump said about it. Should we wait for Biden to be in office for a while to apply, or should we apply immediately hoping that we will get it soon after the 2 years expire?

Hello, I am currently in the process of filing Form I-129F, to apply for a visa for my Chinese fiance. I'm a little confused as to how to enter her address since all the address fields are not long enough to cover for the Pinyin translation. Also, the online I-129F will not allow dashes, her street number reads something like '149-7' so I'm unsure as to how to enter her the street number correctly. A search on this site led me to a similar post where someone suggested submitting her Pinyin address as an attachment to the application. If so, do I leave all the address fields blank or do I enter a reference to the additional documentation? Any help to ensure that her address is correctly entered on the form will be appreciated! Hello, A couple of weeks ago I got the I-797 NOA saying my K-1 application has been forwarded to the NVC in New Hampshire. I called the NVC and received the GUZ #, invoice #, and beneficiary #. From my research, I can start doing I-134 Affidavit of Support -- is there anything else I need to fill out? Seems like my work is pretty much done here in the USA? For my fiancee in China (never married before with no kids), the tasks she needs to complete are: Completed Form DS-160, Online Nonimmigrant Visa Application.A passport valid for travel to the United StatesDivorce or death certificate(s) of any previous spouse(s) for both you and the U.S. citizen sponsor Medical examinationEvidence of financial support (Form I-134, Affidavit of Support, may be requested)Two (2) 2x2 photographs.Did I miss anything? And what's this converting GUZ # to GZO?? Thanks for your time

Hi all, I'd like to get a picture of recent processing times so if you just received your P3, please help me by sharing your time line with me. Here is my timeline: Noa 2 -- 11/21 thru text Noa 2 -- Hardcopy -- 11/26 NVC receives file and assigns case number-- 1/3/2019 CEAC tracker says "Ready" What does "Ready" mean? How much time is there from "Ready" to Guangzhou embassy actually receiving our file? Does it go from "Ready" to "Administrative Processing" to "Sent"? (This is where I am confused) And what is the wait time from then till I receive P3 on hand? Is there a way I can track when the file will get to the GZ embassy? What's the wait time usually, for GZ to send out P3? I am trying to set a wedding date but I won't do that unless I've received P3. If possible, can someone give me a run-down of wait times from P3 --> P4 --> Interview --> visa on hand? VJ is not supremely helpful in the post NOA, and respective embassy-followup matters. Thank you so so so much to everyone on this forum who has helped us make it through the process thus far! Hi! I'm wondering about the translation of documents like birth certificate, police records, etc.. I think I had read somewhere that it needed to be done by some sort of translation service as opposed to my fiancee translating them herself. If this is the case, what services would you all recommend? Also, I just noticed the translation needs to be notarized. Where do I get this done? Last time I talked about notarization, my fiancee was very confused as to where one would do that. Thanks for the help everyone! Best, Matthew -
Hello! I am planning to get married to a woman from China soon, and either do so here in China or possibly go back to the US and get married there. I have gone through a divorce from a woman whom I married and filed for the CR-1 visa previously about a decade ago. The divorce was over 4 years ago. I have been living here in China for quite a while since my divorce (which was slightly after my ex-wife received her citizenship) and am hoping to not get stuck in China for too much longer (due to health issues and whatnot). My wife-to-be's parents have already dragged things out as much as possible to try and keep us from going to the US, and are trying to get her to postpone our wedding for about 16-18 months for planning of the ceremony (obviously not necessary). My fiancee is not "allowed" by her parents to live with me even after we sign our papers, and only can after the wedding ceremony (which I obviously am not going to wait the 16+ months for). Regarding the K1, it seems like it may be a good option since this way we can go to the States sooner, however, the CR-1 would allow us to get married in China and not need to fly back here and have a ceremony in China after the US ceremony which would be convenient. 1. Can I (probably with my wife-to-be) travel back to the US for an extended period of time AFTER filing for the CR-1, or will this look bad? 2. Having been through this process before, would either of the choices be better in terms of a higher probability of a positive interview experience? I wasn't sure how much previously having divorced would affect things. A few people have told me they heard the K1 is easier to get, so I figure if that's the case I may go that route. -
Hi, I am semi-retired, did not file any 1040 for the last 3 years, but I have more than 200K in my US bank account, can I simply use the bank statements to meet the I-134 requirement? Or do I have to find a co-sponsor? Thanks! -
Hi everyone, newbie here! My fiance and I just got engaged and filed for the K1 visa - so exciting! I am a citizen of Hong Kong working in Shanghai, so we just put Shanghai as the embassy of choice. But now I am reading that Guangzhou is the only embassy that issues K1 visa? I am panicking now (esp when i read about to the possible delay in receiving the packages because of Chinese custom here) and wonder if we have chosen the wrong place to apply for the visa. I travel to Hong Kong for work often and have addresses in both cities - is it possible/do you guys advise us to call and try to switch it to Hong Kong? Thank you so much - this is an incredibly stressful process, I am grateful forums like this to get us all moving and staying positive! -
Hello, We received an email notice from the Guangzhou US consulate and registered at ustraveldocs.com. We were able to pay the fee and schedule an interview. However, in various places, the instruction mentions that there should be a "K1 instruction packet" that we should have received. From what I understand, that should be a packet listing the specific approved centers for medical examination. We never received that packet, but I googled and found a PDF listing the location of 4 centers. I don't know whether what I googled was the latest information, and I was wondering what else were in that packet. Does anyone have a link to that packet? I am also asking the consulate this question. Thanks in advance.

Hello, My fiancee is an Iranian citizen having lived in China for three years as a student and a professional. I'd like to reach out to the community of foreign nationals in China as well as those knowledgeable about Guangzhou and K-1 in China. I have two concerns: 1. Her police certificate from Iran is stuck in bureaucracy hell. She has sent off for it many months ago. She will not have it for the interview. A call to the NVC says she is not required to have one from Iran but an email to the consulate disagrees. 2. We have only been able to meet once as my work schedule is somewhat grueling. When we did meet it was in Turkey as she did not need a visa to get there and it afforded us two more days together (travel time to China and what not). I am trying to make it there for her interview, which is on Sep 6, but am not certain of that. Will that help? If anyone has any opinions, knowledge, experience on these matters as well as general tips it would be very much appreciated if you were to share them. Harold

My fiancé and I have just started the K1 process. We mailed off the forms a few days ago. My question is since he had his name changed as a child (about 8 years old) will we need to show some sort of documentation regarding this name change? If so, I don't even know where we would go to get it. We did list his old name on the I-129F under the previously used names.

I believe the US law for K2 applicants for green card changed in 2012. This change in law enabled K2 applicants who entered the US before their 21st birthday, but who turned 21 before adjusting status to get their green card. The law held that the K2 applicant's age was considered "frozen" as of the date of entry to the US. I'm trying to find specific law regarding this issue from a government website or posting. Anyone here familiar with it?

So here's my dilemma... The whole K1 process has been going, until now, smoothly for my Chinese fiancee and I. Our documents were electronically mailed from the NVC to the consulate at Guangzhou, China and we got our notification. We then started completing and collecting necessary documents in preparation for the future interview as well as educate ourselves on the process a the consulate. We submitted the DS-160 online before getting the P3. Then sometime later (Dec 19th) we got the P3! requesting that we send them back a copy of the personal information page of the passport, 2 inch square photographs, and the letter they sent to us back to them. No more, cause submitting any other documents to the Consulate at this time would be destroyed. We got confirmation that they received them. Last week with no follow on instructions. We went to the CGI Stanley site and began filling out all the stuff and paid that 1 time fee. On Dec 29th we got and email, the P4, from Chief immigrant visa unit: "Dear Applicant, Petitioner, or Agent of record: This office is ready to begin final processing of the immigrant visa applicant(s) named above in this case. Please follow these steps to schedule and prepare for your visa interview:" We've done all of it already, besides scheduling appointment cause we can't, but when we go to the the page after the fee payment, receipt number is already there, all we get is: "There are currently no appointments available." I've been reading into this for hours and people have gotten the same message but they at least have a calendar, I don't. Also when my fiancee was looking into it she noticed other applicants say they had a "DS-160 confirmation number" on their "update profile" tab in CGI Stanley appointment scheduling site. I don't see that for us either. Also on the dashboard of the CGI Stanley site the payment fee still shows as $265. Does that mean I've paid that amount already or that's how much they still need. What should I do? Please help. Should I try to resubmit the DS-160?

My first post here, I want to say "Thank You" to all for the valuable information that helped me complete my I-129F form. I sent the completed I-129F package out on Christmas Eve with my G-1145 form and got a telephone call Monday Dec. 28th. Unfortunately, I work evenings and was woken up by the early call and fumbled with my phone. As I connected, I also hung up and have no idea what the call said. When I tried to call back, it was busy. Then today it robo-answer "This survey is closed" Those who have received the first call, what did I miss? I assume it was a robo-call telling me that they received my package, but did it have any other important information I'll need in the future? I didn't get an email, though I included that on the G-1145 form. Thanks for any info and a thousand curses on my butterfingers. -
Those who are considering filing an I-129F for a K-1 visa would do well to consider some of these aspects of the visa process. That being said, the choice of which visa to file for is a personal decision which should be made after careful consideration of your own situation. the K-1 is in a visa category (NON-IMMIGRANT VISAS) which ALLOWS fairly arbitrary rejections and denials. I realize the consulates process them as Immigrant visas, but can you really expect the same accountability stateside that is applied to Immigrant visas? Once approved and sent to Guangzhou from USCIS either through DCF process in China, or through NVC in the states, the Packet 3 and Packet 4 procedure has changed. I'm still surprised at how fast the process has moved along. I filed the I 129F in the middle of June '15 and her interview was Nov. 5. I was with her for 4 weeks in May and we did as much paperwork as we could at that time and got her birth, divorce and police documents. The interview came up so quickly that I didn't have time to return to China to bring her the documents for the interview, so I made up 2 identical packages of documents, each one about 3/4" thick. I send each package from the post office on different days as a precaution to try to make sure she got at least one. It cost $63 each (FedEx wanted $103) and they were well tracked and both arrived in 4 days. I always thought it was unnecessary to send the women to the interview with kitchen sink thinking, 2 suitcases of documents, evidence and 6 photo albums, not to mention how difficult all of this would be for them to move this from place to place. I was right about this, at least in my case. I know other people have different situations, but this worked for us. Here's how it went: She went to the first window and gave a Chinese man the medical report, her divorce, birth and police papers, passport, l-134 w/2 attachments, 2015 payroll stubs, 2013 &2014 w2's, 2013& 2014 tax transcripts. The man asked her my name and if she will speak English or Chinese . Ten minutes later she went to another window and it was an American man with good Chinese skills, but they spoke English. He asked about our divorces and how long since divorced, He asked her my name and without thinking she said "Master" and the man raised his eyebrow, smiled and said "Oh" and she quickly said my name. We are still laughing about this. He ask about my children, where she will live, if she was a party member and about her job. He then looked at the pics. I provided about 12 pics that were different from the ones that were sent with the I 129F and we had NO pics with her family. There were two pics of us on the beach in Beihai and she was in a little bikini and the man seemed very happy about this. Maybe because she is hot, but maybe because it showed we traveled together and would dress this way together. Something that probably wouldn't happen in a fake relationship. They did not take most of my financial information and they did not want duplicates of anything that they already had or that she brought to the interview. There was no hesitation or question about giving her the visa after about 10 minutes with the interviewer. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

My fiance and I have been trying to get a marital status certificate to prove that she has not been married. The local notary office where we got birth and police certificates, are claiming the certificate of no-marriage is no longer available as of October. A call to the regional Nanjing office offered the same response. According to the USTRAVELDOCS pdf, (http://www.ustraveldocs.com/cn/K_Visa_Instructions.pdf) a marital certificate is needed only if my fiance was previously married, yet many posts online, here and elsewhere, claim that a translated and notarized certificate of no-marriage (single) is required for the consular's office. What am I to do? Thanks -
Please post Name, Address and cost of Civil Surgeons you may have had a bad experience or good experience. For example a K-Visa holder adjusting within a year of medical for visa interview should only need vaccination portion of I-693 done NOT a FULL medical. Note CR-1 and IR-1 have this handled before Visa interview so wont deal with the Civil Surgeon in the USA. If adjusting from a visa type like a student visa then a FULL MED is required. K1 She has the DS 160 confirmation, mailed the required items to the consulate and went to the bank and paid the fee. She made the profile online and signed in on the page to schedule the interview and the website continues to say that an interview appointment can't be made. I know others had this happen too, but I don't know the solution to the problem.

I've been in administrative processing for more than 20 months since the K1 visa interview due to my former CCP membership. Don't know what to do :-(
