  1. My fiance is a foreigner in China as well. She made a copy of her passport and was able to travel with it. I don't think I'd recommend it if you can get your passport back. At least it's a backup incase they keep your passport.
  2. Hello, we provided the required documents to the consulate and our case was touched the 21st. Today the status changed to ready with a case creation date change of the 22nd. Are we close to issue?
  3. It could be a China-wide problem. My fiancee had a bear of a time getting one in Hangzhou (but that doesn't necessarily mean it is China wide just seems that way). Have you tried all the police stations?
  4. My fiancee is a foreigner living in China who has lived in Shanghai for a period. She just interviewed Sep 6th 2016. She was unable to get the notarized police certificate before the interview but was approved pending that document (and one from Iran) be submitted. During the interview she told the interviewing officer that the authorities are not issuing pc's to foreigners. The officer called a police station and the reply was "yes, we will start soon" even though they've been saying that for months on end. It was just enough to turn her away. She has since gone through her university to get one. They're pretty serious about these police certificates at the consulate and the Chinese police are just as serious about not giving the police certificates to foreigners. It was a miracle my fiancee got one from Hangzhou! Others have suggested to document, some way some how, your attempts to obtain the pc and submit that as evidence. We had to do that with the Iranian police certificate (which is frustratingly not required at the embassy where most Iranians interview). It's pretty scant evidence and seemed more like a token to show to make them feel better (we haven't been fully approved yet). Perhaps you could start doing something like that. I can't tell you what would be good evidence. Good luck! Please post updates on what has happened!
  5. Hey there! My fiance and I are in the same spot! She received the green piece of paper as well. They received our documents today. Any updates?
  6. Update: The notary office informed her that she could seek a police certificate through the university she attended in Shanghai. She went through the proper steps and collected the right signatures and stamps, took it to the central notary office in Shanghai, and was able to obtain a certified pc English translation in less than 24 hours. I don't know why they didn't tell her this the first time she contacted them. Anyways, it's a work-around if anyone ever has a similar situation. The Iranian police certificate: she called the Iranian consulate and had no luck. We've inquired with Guangzhou about whether or not to go ahead and send in the Shanghai police certificate and have explained the circumstances surrounding the pc from Iran. I stopped short of telling them that Ankara, Turkey - where most Iranians go to interview - does not require a pc from Iran. It could have been too insulting so we left it out of the email. Anyways, I'll provide updates as it happens.
  7. Hello and thank you for your reply. She has applied for the police certificate in June but we are still waiting. We did print the reciprocity page but they focused on the part that says they are obtainable and ignored the sentence that states that they are not required. The interviewing office did check with her supervisor but to no avail.
  8. Hello all. We had the interview today and were approved pending the receival of two documents: a police certificate from Shanghai and from Iran. The Iranian certificate is stuck in bureaucracy. The Shanghai police have stopped issuing police certificates for foreign nationals residing in China. It's unfortunate for us. She will start a log of each time she attempts to aquire either and perhaps in a couple of months, if she does not receive both of the documents, they will reconsider her visa. Harold
  9. Thanks all for the replies. The Iranian governement flat out does not care and has given no supporting documentation. In regards to "two trips is better than one", well, that settles it, I'm going for the interview. Thanks again, Harold
  10. Thanks for the speedy reply and helpful answer!
  11. Hello, My fiancee is an Iranian citizen having lived in China for three years as a student and a professional. I'd like to reach out to the community of foreign nationals in China as well as those knowledgeable about Guangzhou and K-1 in China. I have two concerns: 1. Her police certificate from Iran is stuck in bureaucracy hell. She has sent off for it many months ago. She will not have it for the interview. A call to the NVC says she is not required to have one from Iran but an email to the consulate disagrees. 2. We have only been able to meet once as my work schedule is somewhat grueling. When we did meet it was in Turkey as she did not need a visa to get there and it afforded us two more days together (travel time to China and what not). I am trying to make it there for her interview, which is on Sep 6, but am not certain of that. Will that help? If anyone has any opinions, knowledge, experience on these matters as well as general tips it would be very much appreciated if you were to share them. Harold
