  1. Hi All, Need some help.. I started the following topic to know about the average time for the visa process and understood from Randy that it would takes about 2 weeks or so.. http://candleforlove.com/forums/topic/48372-how-long-does-it-take-to-get-passport-and-visa-after-the-interview/?p=626561 I haven't yet been able to find any information on how to get some kind of document which allows me(foreign national) to travel back to Beijing from Guanzhou while I wait for my passport and visa packet Has anyone done this before ? ("This" as in coming back to Beijng while your visa is being processed in Guangzhou)? Or is it that most people would wait in Guangzhou for two weeks until they pick up their visa and passport in Guangzhou CITIC bank pick up centers? For Chinese nationals, of course this is none of their concern since they can travel with within China. I need this information so that I can choose my pick up center Beijing (if I could travel back to Beijing without my passport) or Guangzhou (if I do not have any choice). Any information regarding this is helpful, thank you all in advance!
  2. US Citizen here, recently married to a naturalized Japanese citizen (who was born and raised as a Chinese citizen until 3 years ago). Since there isn't USCIS Field Office in Japan, we are hoping to move to Guangzhou and file I-130 via DCF there so that we can avoid filing with Chicago Lockbox and dealing with long processing times (18+ months). However, after reading through the stickied guides about DCF, I may have stumbled upon a huge oversight. Are we ineligible for DCF because my wife is a Japanese citizen and no longer a Chinese citizen? Is DCF only available for beneficiary spouses who are citizens of the country that the Field Office has jurisdiction over? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.
  3. Hello I am a Canadian citizen living in China. I married an American last year. I went to the consulate in Guangzhou for my spousal visa interview and the visa officer requested police clearance checks for my entire time in China. I have lived in China off and on for 13 years. I have been doing some research and what I have found is that in order to get police checks from the cites I've worked in I would need to have my passport with my Chinese visas and the entry and exit stamps. I first came to China in 2003 and am no longer in possession of that passport as I did not have it returned to me from the passport office in Canada. Some of the companies that can obtain police checks have told that it will not be possible to get the record checks. I have also read that the PSB or police stations will not issue any sort of documentation stating that they will not provide the record checks. If I am unable to get the record checks and by all accounts it seems that I won't or any other sort of documentation, what would my next course of action be? I am in the process of talking to an immigration lawyer in Beijing. I am saving all communication between the companies I've emailed but I am not sure if that will be enough to satisfy the requirements at the consulate. The visa officer said they wanted to see real evidence of an attempt to get the record checks. Has anybody else experienced this type of scenario? Thank you for your time.
  4. Hello again community. I'm asking this because I want to know if it's common for administrative incompetence to get in the way of getting the visa for the spouse to go to America. My husband had his green card interview and everything seemed to go okay. According to my husband, he asked his interviewer if she needed the translations of all his police certificates and if everything was correct. She said she didn't need the translations, everything was correct, and the final words she said to him were "You're all set." Sounds like everything is good to go for the visa right? Well now, we get a letter saying he is unable to get the visa now because they need: -two new visa photos taken within the past 6 months -a notarized birth certificate -a notarized marriage certificate -a notarized police certificate (it is not specific whether this means a Chinese police certificate, even though we did all that needs to be done to get the white book and everything with it) -notarized English translations of marriage certificate and police certificates from both the Netherlands and Spain My husband brought all this stuff (and much much more) to the interview. His interviewer blew it off and acted like it was unnecessary, now we are here. We will try to call the embassy Monday to see what is going on. Would arguing this situation help and result in a "Sorry, just send what you have to us," or would it be better to just tediously gather up all these documents once more? I've read about administrative incompetence causing couples to not get the visa, but I would have never thought it would happen to us...
  5. I'm referring here to the interview in Guangzhou. My wife (beneficiary) is non-Chinese, so she needs her passport to travel back from GZ to Beijing after the interview. So I'm wondering how long she'd have to plan on staying in GZ to get her passport back after the interview. I read on this forum that apparently you can take your passport back after the interview and then once you travel back home (ie. Beijing), then mail it to GZ for final processing. Any idea how long that takes and if it delays things? I'm trying to figure out the whole timetable in advance due to various other factors. Thank you.
  6. Hello everyone! We need your advise. Background is following - we are couple of married foreigners who are currently living (working visa) in China and planning our relocation to the USA (my husband is from the USA and I am from Ukraine) . On September 6th we have applied our i-130 petition at the Consulate in Guangzhou. On 18th of October we got their email with the request to give them an additional postal address, as they sent a letter to providen address, but it was not delivered. In a couple days we got their mail with the request of sending them our passport size photos. The date on the letter, however, was listed as September 19th. We sent them photos asap and still then we haven't heard anything from them. Shall we send them and email or just wait? Kind regards, Natalia
  7. Hello candelforlove community. My husband (who is Spanish) just completed the DS-260 online and I (an American) am getting all the required documents together. We both live and work and Guiyang and were wondering how the process works after the interview. He signed up to receive his passport with the visa at the Guiyang CITIC bank. So that means, after his interview in Guangzhou, he will have no passport, thus no way to return to Guiyang. How do these types to of situations work? Do we stay in Guangzhou until he receives his passport?
  8. Hi All, I read in one of the older threads where the applicant was a foreigner who was also working/living in Beijing and had to travel to Guangzhou for interview. Since that was an older thread, writing a separate one as I have few other questions. Thread/comment link for your reference: http://candleforlove.com/forums/topic/46570-need-help-with-the-ds-260-workeducationtraining-section/page-2?do=findComment&comment=611143 He mentioned that after the visa was approved for him, he brought back passport with him to travel back to Beijing first and then from Beijing he sent his passport back to GUZ for the further processing. This was really good information for me(foreigner - living/working in Beijing), since I had been looking for such information as well (Being a foreigner adds up extra complications like this one...) However, my questions still remain unanswered..I really hope someone can help me on this one. 1. So if it was possible to bring back the passport after the interview, where should the passport pickup location be in CGI Stanley website - which we have to actually submit before the interview. My dilemma is, at this moment, I DO NOT know if I will also be able to get to bring back my passport and then sent to GUZ for the visa stamping process..I will most probably have to work it out with the VO on the day of the interview?! So, which pickup location do I select in this case before the interview, Beijing or Guangzhou..? 2. I called CGI Stanley if it will be possible to change the delivery address after interview in such case like mine. And they said it is NOT possible to change the delivery address after the interview... (OK! I know they can't but I was trying to explain if in such situation if the Consulate agrees to find me the solution, can I change then...and she almost got mad at me for asking such question..) !! Anyway, please let me know if anyone can help me on this. Thanks a lot in advance!
  9. Hello community. Me (American) and my husband (Spanish) are both living and working in China and are in the process of doing DCF in Guangzhou. We already submitted the I-130 and my husband has already filled out the DS-260. Do I have to e-mail all the materials (I-864, police certificate, marriage certificate, etc.) to the NVC like the travel.state.gov website instructs? I just want to make sure because it is not that clear, and looking at other people's DCF experiences, nobody mentions the step of e-mailing materials to NVC. That makes me think they didn't do the e-mail part. My other question involves police certificates. Do I, the petitioner, have to get police certificates from China and USA also, or is that job only for the beneficiary? My final question involves the I-864. I want to make sure that the signature of my joint-sponsor has to be original and not a scanned a printed signature. Is this true? Does this mean my joint sponsor has to mail the I-864 and all documents physically to me? Thank you very much!
  10. Hi, I submitted my DS-260 almost 2 months ago and was later informed by the consulate that I was missing past work and education information. When reviewing the form, the only field which could be relevant for this information is titled "PRESENT Work/Education/Training Information" and therefore, the first time around, I only inserted my current employer and occupation. Could this be the designated area for that particular requested information? I have emailed the Consulate several times, to no avail. I would appreciate if anyone could share their experience. Thanks
  11. I am a foreign national currently living and working in Beijing. I am currently waiting for the further process from NVC. but my immigrant visa interview will be held in Guangzhou. In order to plan my trip to Guangzhou for my visa interview as I cannot travel out of Guangzhou without my passport, I'd appreciate if anybody could share some information on the following: 1. When the application is approved, normally, how long does the process take in Guangzhou before returning the passport and visa to the selected pick-up location/CITIC bank of the same city? 2. Is there express delivery/process so that I can get my passport and visa earlier? 3. Could it be possible that we get the passport back on the same day of the interview and the visa packet should be picked up later from the pick-up location? Please do share your experience. I'd really appreciate. Thanks in advance!
  12. Hey guys, I have been reading through this site a lot. My Fiancee and I are starting the K1 process. I am not a Chinese, but have been living in China for almost 11 years. I live in Shanghai, but am trying to figure out if I should go through Guangzhou or my own country. My concern is, if Guangzhou does not hand me my passport after approval in Guangzhou, how can I fly back to Shanghai? Since I am a foreigner, I can only use the passport to get on a flight. That worries me. Staying in a hotel in Guangzhou for 2 weeks would be a bit much and a hassle. Do they give you any documents I would be able to fly with? Thank you in advance for your answers! I really appreciate all your time. This is a great portal for everyone.
  13. Hello Everyone, I completed my visa interview on Thursday May 22nd. It went successfully and because I am a foreigner living in Shanghai, I needed my passport to travel back. I then sent the passport back to the consulate via citic back the following Monday (May 26th). Since the visa is already approved, I assumed it would be a pretty quick turn around time between me re-submitting the passport and having it back. It has now been 3 weeks and I am getting a little anxious as we are scheduled to fly on July 1st. Status on CEAC still reads "administrative processing" (most recently updated today). What could be taking so long?! If it gets too close to my departure date without me having it back, any advice on what I should do? Thanks!
  14. Hi, I'm a foreigner living in Beijing, married to an American citizen. I know this forum is dedicated towards Americans with Chinese spouses, however, I figured I’m still likely to get the most helpful responses here. First, I'm a bit confused in regards to the waiting times for each stage and the overall process. We just submitted the I-130 package at the Beijing USCIS office 2 days ago. When we asked how long it would take we were told we should expect to hear back from them within 3 months and that the whole process could take up to a year or even longer. We are hoping to move to the US sometime around June-August, which leaves us less than a year. I recently came across several posts, where people claimed the process within China took them up to 6 months and even less at times, so needless to say, I was a bit shocked at their response. Have things changed recently or am I treated differently for being a foreigner perhaps? Also, I’d really appreciate it if someone could explain to me in detail the next steps that follow the USCIS I-130 petition or direct me to a useful link. I’m not quite clear as to what exactly needs to be submitted from now on and where. I would like to start preparing everything so that we can continue with the process as soon as the petition is approved. As for the evidence of support, due to the fact that my husband didn’t live in the US throughout his adult life, he never filed tax returns. Therefore, we have quite a lot of work cut out for us. Is anyone familiar with a good American accountant in Beijing who they can recommend? Last but not least, my current workplace isn’t able to provide me with a working visa and so I have been working on a spousal visa as of late, which I know isn’t exactly legal. Could that be held against me at any stage? I could always say that I work as a consultant or freelancer. Any advice, information and tips on expediting this process from this great community would be much appreciated!!!
  15. In my own personal search I found out this useful information from the Australian Embassy Website, I hope this helps. To obtaining a Chinese Police Clearance Certificate bring the following to the Beijing Public Security Bureau (PSB): 1. Contact your company(s) in Beijing and request a letter to confirm that you haven't been doing anything unlawful while working in the company (s). 2. You will then need to take the following documents to an authorised agency to obtain the certificate: a. the letter(s) from your company(s) B. the passport with your Chinese work visa c. your current passport. d. a letter of authorisation (Please note you will need to authorise someone in Beijing to apply for this certificate on your behalf). Pleased be advised that the above information is provided by Beijing PSB. If you worked in other cities, you will need to contact their local PSB for information.
  16. I will send my P3 soon and wait for my interview. I am not Chinese and my passport is the only ID I have when I am in China. Though in theory I can wait for the delivery of the visa at my Beijing home, I can not get back to BJ without passport (can not take flight) after the interview in Guangzhou. What can I do? Can I take train without ID? Many Thanks for your help. Safari
  17. My fiance is citizenship of South Korea, and she went to school in Guangzhou, China for 2 years. I am applying for a K-1 visa for her and she needs a Police Certificate for her stay in Guangzhou. How would I go about getting one? I dont think the police have any information about her, also she doesnt have a residence card for China. Thanks for your help.
  18. Hi all, I'm a foreign K1 beneficiary in China. Happy to let you know that I passed my interview yesterday. It lasted for about 3 to 4 minutes. The questions asked were: 1. It seems you're here alone, where are your children? They're not with me in China. He then cancelled the names of my children on the appointment letter and said "Ok, it means they will be interviewed in your country, we shall arrange for "follow to join''. 2. What do you do on China? I teach ...... 3. For how long have you been in China? 3 years. 4. How did you meet your fiance? ..... 5. How many times has he visited you in China?... 3 times 6. What does your fiance do for a living? He's a Registered Nurse 7. Where was your fiance before he relocated to another state?..... 7. Do you have any photos? Yes gave him an album. (I had 3 albums but the VO looked through one). The VO commented on my resume and qualifications, I guess he was impressed. He also noted the fact that I worked as a Research Supervisor in an International Organization (not in China). I was really impressed at the embassy yesterday because all the people who attended to me gave me so much confidence with the smiles on their faces. The Chinese guy who put my documents together was very nice and friendly. The lady who took my finger print was very friendly too and correctly pronouced my jaw breaking names. The VO was really wonderful! God Bless him real good. And many thanks to you all on candleforlove for the invaluable information available on this site. Have a good one!
