To Hank and others concerned: Below is a portion of the email I just received from John Chen, President of GMUCA. He also attached an application for passport renewal (in Chinese) and requirements such as cashier check amount, photos, etc., again in Chinese. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Chinese Embassy has confirmed that they will send an official to come to Memphis on Feb. 5th to work on Passport renewal, living certificate, and Travel Permits for children (if either parent has received a Green Card or a U.S. Citizen, then their children can not apply for Travel Permit). Please read the attached instructions and prepare the necessary material/photo (Must be recent pictures without any part of face/eyebrow/ear being blocked) to make your visit as smooth and as short as possible. There will be a number system that will give out waiting number on first come and first serve basis. Date: Feb. 5th, Saturday. Time: 3:00pm to 7:00pm Location: University of Memphis Engineering Building Lobby and Auditorium. 3795 Central Avenue Memphis, TN 38152 Please help spread this news as much as possible so more people can be informed about this visit. We would like to see as many Chinese in Memphis and surrounding cities be benefit as possible. Though the Chinese Embassy official did emphasize that they can only work for the people who actually live in the territory states that are covered by the Chinese Embassy. The people from state of AR, AL, MS and etc. that are covered by Houston consulate, please do NOT make the trip because your request will NOT be processed!!!! I don¡¯t want anyone to waste their time and gas to drive to Memphis and get disappointed.

Hank, Thanks so much. I also contacted John this afternoon on his cell number provided to me by a member at GMUCA. Apparently we are taking the same path. He was just getting all the details himself, but I was informed by him that it will be at the University of Memphis on Saturday, February 5th at 3pm. He added my email address to his list as he was preparing at the time to email all members of GMUCA the details and requirements for the passport renewal next weekend. As I understand it, you must meet with the embassy staff in person to start the process of passport renewal. Once done and fees paid, the new passport will be mailed to us within two to three months as Dan stated also. I may stand corrected in the near future on all that I have just posted. Thanks for any help in advance. As I am aware that it is possible to renew a Chinese passport at the consulate offices throughout the U.S., I am also aware that they travel from state to state and it is possible to get it renewed at a temporary location. My wife has been watching for the dates and locations on the embassy's web-site and they are now within reach of our city. Today they are in Lexington, Ky. and next weekend they are in Memphis, TN. I am unable to translate what she has found on the embassy's site. Here is the link where she found this info: http://www.china-emb...ywzn/lsyw/gzrz/ You can see the first listings with the numbers on the first line showing 2 and 20, second line 2 and 13 and so forth. We are interested in the one reading 2 and 6 which is in Memphis as we are in Nashville. Can someone help get this translated or get me to the right site where I am able to read the same in English? I will need to be able to learn of the forms and money order amounts, etc. for this process to be completed. If I have placed this in the wrong forum, I am hoping a mod can get it relocated properly. We are preparing for my wife's Removal of Conditions and the most recent I-751 form that I have found was revised on 8/25/08 and has an expiration date of 10/31/09. I will be sending the form mid March. Will this be acceptable or is there a more recent form I have not located yet? Thanks Clayton

I have a feeling, her friend may need to travel here to Nashville if they wish to meet once again. Thanks for all your help. Clayton

A friend of ours is here in America on a J1 Internship Visa. She has a friend in Vancouver, Canada that she wishes to visit in the near future. Is it possible/not possible to enter Canada on this visa? My assumption would be no, but I know it is a question better asked here on CFL. Thanks, Clayton

Tony and Sebastian..thank you both. Thanks for the tip of not flying into guz. I will check into that in my free time tomorrow. I have flown into Beijing a number of times, but a year and a half ago, guz saved me money and time. I will also place a call direct to CZ. This could make my flight affordable. Hello to all...once again. Sorry to be away (occasional lurking only) for some time, but I am in need of help finding cheaper airfare to Nanning from LAX as my searches have produced only shocking results. I have exhausted some of the links provided in the pinned post above and have found for the two of us to travel from Nashville via LAX to GUZ to Nanning is costing about $3g's. A bit more than I am seeking to spend. If we don't find cheaper fare, we will need to postpone our travels for a while. We wish to travel the first week of Sept. and return in two weeks. I know that many of you track pricing to Nanning and hoping you all know something that I may be missing. Although I quickly skimmed the directions for the I-751, I did not find the same statement as I did on some of the other forms used in the K-1 process that reads to send it USPS. From one government agency to another. If you send it USPS without the p.o. box number, I would assume it would wind up in that box anyway. You will find it cheapest to send USPS, just get a tracking number as your package is valuable. It will get where it's going, no worries. Clayton

Steve, How exciting. I am sure you are proud. Please open my eyes and tell me how much schooling and studing your daughter did while in China. I'd be interested in learning this myself. My wife's schooling was a typical five day week, 7 hour day much like ours here in America. She is from Nanning. Clayton

dale, Apparently and lucky for us, Tennessee is a very lenient state when it comes to issuing state ID's. Within the first couple of weeks of my wife's arrival we secured a state ID with her passport and I-94 in the name of Li Wen. It was good for one year. When we were married we secured an updated ID with her now married name Li Wen Taylor, which expired on the same date as the first ID issued. Finally, when her green card arrived in her chosen name, Wen-Li Taylor we secured one in this name which expires in five years. No questions, no hassles, no waiting. Clayton
