  1. Confidence must be the key here. My ex was very, well she knew she was the best at what she did. But her English was not good talking to others. I thought it was good at the time, but had to admit later, that it was pretty horrible. She had many phone interviews, then finally it came together that the right recruiter, and the right interviewer talked slow at a company and she got hired as a job shopper, contract employee, meaning temporary, but high paid doing what she always did before. It lasted 2 years, with the last year working form home. Her confidence could go to arrogance, yet the MAGIC happened so the right people talked slow enough that the interviews went well. Maybe living in the South helped, because we talk slower, generally. She still speaks rough English, but a VP at a bank. And working with Indians, whose English she really struggles with.
  2. There is a private school in Ft Worth, TX that now teaches their kids Chinese. I think all of them, at least in the elementary campus. I would think this is being added on the high school campus as well as the kids grow up. Don't know if they need any teachers or not. http://www.southwestchristian.org/ We used them for a summer sports class for the Lil One once and found out about their teaching Chinese over Spanish or something like that. They were even bringing in kids from China on something as well. Only thing that bothered me was in their high school campus they begin teaching all other Christian faiths, other than main stream Christian protestant, is a cult, but it is not an overbearing I don't think. Turned me off to send the kid there. Still their feeling is that because of all the business with China that it is better to teach the kids Chinese rather than Spanish.
  3. YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
  4. Some guy tried dating my daughter that wanted everything Dutch. She brought it up to me. I got mad, and she said thank you and told the guy not to come around anymore. If a guy is taking my daughter out, he better pay all. I have been married where the wife spent way to much and I went back to separate accounts. I have had a wife so overbearing and controlling, that would not spend a nickel, that I paid for all but kept our money separate. That divorce cost me the most. I imagine there will be little to no problems with Fen. I tell her what I am doing and actually wish she were here to give me more of an opinion on some of my ventures. But, I must try new things, and I believe she will be Ok with it. We just get along, and I believe it will remain that way once she is here. This is the first time there is not a power struggle. I love how Fen likes to be a girl, and a teammate.
  5. Personally the system is a game, when it comes to taxes. You can easily feel like a crook, but it is honest according to the law. As my mayor says, the IRS teaches us how to be dishonest. And I sure had to get used to that myself. I usually study the heck out of something before I commit to filing like I did. Many things can be filled different ways too. Min boggling. Of course even in the IRS, they may review your filling about like an immigration officer, with no real explanation for their decisions. It is a game we play every year, especially if you have a little private business on the side and or rent houses/buildings, and then there is selling something and you carry the note. Even the IRS throws up their hands an gives you a choice how to handle it. I really wish we had a flat tax or sales tax. This filling every year is so ridiculous and a tax on our time.
  6. So Peggy Sue, I mean Becker er ah Cathy.... Well anyway, yes A Mafan. We kind of had a lot in common for awhile, heheee. I would imagine if you had a husband that is agreeable to it, that some arrangement could be made. I get a free car with my job, but it makes me nervous these days and not what I want, and really want a free house, but not with this company. Too bad not born in China. Oh well. But actually I just want all of my own and be retired. Here in the old money section of Fort Worth, TX they have nannies. I dated one once. She had plenty of freedom, but it was not Chinese. Ronny there has plenty of big time wealthy people in PA. I think no problem for him and his...
  7. I'll give you just a little YAAAAAAAAAAAAAA HOOOOOOOOOOOO for now. Let us know when it is done
  8. On most insurance I have her as beneficiary, and the paper to prove it since it was part of the visa process, then let my kids work out the other property. That way she gets cash and can stay or go back to China, whatever. Good ideas, I should look into the survivorship thing. If she is here, I have no problem with her signing everything. In fact in Texas one can buy and sell real estate in their sole name, but the spouse must sign a paper acknowledging (sure is a long word) that she is aware of it. I went through that before, many years ago before China was in my life. Insurance was the only thing I did not need an ITIN to get her name on to help show a bonafide relationship, along with you and your wife's help (statement thanks again). You would think as many trips as I took to China that we would have gone to the Shanghai consulate and got the passport cert so I can get an ITIN. I guess I will, if she does not have her visa next month. I need to go back and 1040x 2012 with or without her on there. I made a real bonehead mistake I found the other day. I have been trying to decide that as well.
  9. I agree, what we call corruption is everywhere in China, and in the most unlikely places. But then think about that movie Rodney Dangerfield was in where he had some clothing store in Chicago was it??? He implied the same thing right cheer in the good ol USA. Folks in the USA gotta just consider, it is normal life in China. Some day I will have to detail what goes on in sports. PS: We pay our rep in China a rather high commission, compared to all others, to get our parts designed in and sold. We don't ask questions.
  10. Thus I am categorized as single (unmarried), on several money, tax, real estate, and insurance issues in the USA, since she has no ITIN either. But everyone knows I am married too, I never kept it a secret, and just explained and let them decide. My wife knows of the shop I sold, and land I recently bought to build another shop, but I did not have to get her signatures and stuff, according to the title companies. Also once my wife and her daughter arrive I will submit this as a life event for medical insurance at work in mid year, even though we were married for 2+ yrs. PS: Sorry guys, Head of Household was not what this thread was about. I simply forgot about it. Please excuse my exuberance, if you don't mind... No problem, Doug. Thanks for the details there. It REALLY helps A LOT when these things get sorted out. YES I AM MARRIED, wear the ring and admit it. I have told the IRS, and every where else, BUT for certain purposes you are treated as unmarried. I like this little loophole and I studied the heck out of it when I started it in 05, which has weaker words. Anyway, same with health insurance, and just try to do any banking, utilities, real estate, and etc. with her over there and no ITIN. This separation is all a crock as it is. That little loophole has helped with a number of things. And why Texas Title companies accept unmarried from the IRS, when it is a community property state, I don't know. I'm not worried about any law suits. Anyway, in this way it is not fraud or a stupid mistake. Sorry again I jumped in without looking it up. I should have kept quiet.
  11. YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
  12. What does she do? I guess she put her resume on Monster? If then any head hunters call for contract work, it can be a very good deal, AND the tax benefit of working job shopper on the W-2 and making the contract company look up and pay per diem for your area, which is tax free unreported money. After all she just moved there. It is at least good for a year. Job shopping also allows them to see if they like her for permanent hire, if available, or it builds references for the future. Also sometimes they are a bit desperate if they are looking for a contract worker, so easier to get in. Sometimes can work from home. Even if it lasts 6 months, GREAT. Move on to the next thing. There are some real success stories.
  13. I have almost answered this 2-3 times today, thinking I was all wet, but I finally found some words I was looking for and actually 2014 reads better than back in 2005 & 06. Pub 519 words are about the same in 05 as the latest in 13, but 1040 instructions are bit dif. I will just use 2014 for the sake of discussion, since it is the concern now. I was wrong about claiming Single. I forgot I had my mother living with me in the past and claimed Head of Household. But Head of Household is an unmarried category. In the 2014 1040 instructions, it says for head of household: Thus I am categorized as single (unmarried), on several money, tax, real estate, and insurance issues in the USA, since she has no ITIN either.
  14. I certainly would have sought after a poor girl then. ughhhh
  15. Even in a far away city, a photo store knew what size to make the original photo and did no photo-shop work. So they came out 2"x2" for wife and daughter.
  16. I have always filed as single, while my wife is in China and she has no tax ID. (and I have done this twice) In the tax code it is clear that your treated as single until you have a tax ID for her. I did not know about the consulate refusing a visa over the way you file your taxes. But these two guys know way more about that than me. Because of IRS code I can buy and sell real estate as a single person and have, several times, as long as she had no tax number. If your concerned about the visa and want to file as single, then write a letter of explanation about that and quote the tax code, or copy from instructions, so they know your aware of this. Now it is way more complicated to get the tax number for your spouse, than it used to be. Now she has to go to a US Consulate/embassy with her passport and a copy that they can certify or something. I forget, and too tired to look up now. I will go back and file 1040X for the years, once my wife is here, like I did before, and get a little more of a refund. this time I did not want the real estate issues and it was a pain in the ass for this passport cert thing I felt. Just my .02...
  17. Yep I know US-287, ran it several times from Fort Worth to Amarillo It has a lot of abandoned buildings in the little town between Wichita Falls and Amarillo. I really like Electra. They have an annual goat BBQ every year. Neat place and they will give lots of tax incentives to build there. They have more jobs than housing. http://electratexas.org/goatbbqhistory.php
  18. I like Link-A-Din, as I call it. I never noticed Linked-In until later, stupid me. I got discovered, uncovered, interviewed, & rejected because of it. But on the other hand I found many colleagues I knew or had heard about. I like keeping it and sometimes it is the only place I have found old friends. Not everyone uses Facebook.
  19. Books finally came to mind. I am not well read, but I put Mark Twain's book Adventures of Tom Sawyer right up there with the Bible. One needs to know life and it gives it to you. Besides when I was a boy I went to Mississippi every summer and my cousin and I went on all kinds of adventures. If one of us thought of something, it was done, whether we got in trouble or not. One of my other favorites is Cannery Row by John Steinbeck. But what helped a Chinese girl adapt to life in the USA was reading all kinds of thick children story books, and later teen or young adult books. Those books are easy reading. She learned all the phrases and idioms better than I knew them. She snuck flashlights to bed to read late. She was a fanatic about reading. Wow, did it ever help her, not only with English, but become American.
  20. Blazing Saddles....I salute thee. The greatest movie ever made Did you ever see the sequel, Blistering Ass?
