  1. Go to Last Entry for most recent posts. A new compilation from Winston, also known as serpentZA - I'll be downloading it for a while, so I don't know what's in it yet. It looks like it contains snippets from some of his other videos
  2. Been a rough ride for me. If I had the chance again, I would turn it down.
  3. Interesting twist on the 14th amendment and anchor babies. Controversial but perfectly legal, and in a way does put some money into the local economy. http://www.nbcnews.com/video/rock-center/51110608#51110720 (NBC Video) http://youtu.be/sSbub3K9f_M http://youtu.be/PQOIPuvN300

If you are watching it,what do you think? http://www.pbs.org/kenburns/the-vietnam-war/home/ Here is one review - http://www.dailywire.com/news/21236/ken-burnss-vietnam-episode-1-very-good-2-omissions-spyridon-mitsotakis# Here is another article- https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/arts-and-entertainment/wp/2017/09/18/7-podcasts-to-listen-to-after-watching-the-vietnam-war/?utm_term=.3f6cbe336cc9

  10. Happy birthday to ya. You and good old Wille Nelson share the same birthday!
  11. My big benchmark for whether the Chinese people are ready to live in a clean, pollution-free environment will be when they don't spit and leave trash everywhere. Hangzhou is apparently a start. http://shanghaiist.com/attachments/alexlinder/no_spitting.jpg Hangzhou officially bans spitting in public
  12. Memorial Day is a federal holiday in the United States for remembering the people who died while serving in the country’s armed forces. The holiday, which is observed every year on the last Monday of May, originated as Decoration Day after the American Civil War in 1868, when the Grand Army of the Republic, an organization of Union veterans — established it as a time for the nation to decorate the graves of the war dead with flowers. By the 20th century, competing Union and Confederate holiday traditions, celebrated on different days, had merged, and Memorial Day eventually extended to honor all Americans who died while in the military service. It typically marks the start of the summer vacation season, while Labor Day marks its end. Memorial Day Commentary by Andy Rooney.
  13. It takes a LOT of gall to make that statement from the Japanese side - trying to shift blame from the soldiers who enslaved them to the women they enslaved Japanese historians contest textbook’s description of ‘comfort women’
  14. Hello, everyone! You know I've been preparing myself for American life. Please don't mind me always asking questions. CFL is the only place where I get help in English. You guys have been helping me a lot. My gratitude goes to everyone of you beyond description. (1) Could someone please recommend me some American movies for me to practice listening to English? not violent or flesh things, thanks a lot. (2) Could anyone know if there are some books of Chinese traditional fairy tales or Chinese stories in English? I don't need Chinese language but English version. I've already got "Three kingdoms" in English. Now I want to collect some simple and easy ones. (3) My last question is the meaning of your names. I know most of you have a strong sense of humor in talking or in your nickname. But I know nothing of your humor, even can't pronounce your name, such as Credzba, Warpedbored, Dnoblett, Tsap Seui. I guess Nuworld means New World with its implied meaning of a new life. Randy, Mick, Thomas, Dennis, Doug, are more easier for me to pronounce lol, Amberjack is friendly too. lol But Jack is a man's name. Is Amber a girl's name? Please know I'm only learning, not being rude. Xiexie Dajia!
  15. Hello, everyone! I was packing this afternoon when I heard a loud scary siren coming into our campus where I live. The piercing sound from a fire engine startled everyone in the neighborhood. We did not see any smoke imaginable. Then there was the news! A family called the fire engine to catch waspers for them!!! They found a nest of waspers somewhere around their house. Is that a big fuss over a small thing? I wonder how do you do with wasper nests, snakes, mosquitos, ticks or even a dog bite? Joecy, do you like to use Chinese mosquito net over your bed? Is there skeeter net available in America?

Always the money will come and go The coins will tarnish with age Yet words of friendship may often show An eternal warmth to the Chinese Nobody Hugs to everyone!! Helloooo you guys!! After a few days hesitating, I decided not to go away from the website because I have peace with all of you who are polite and respectful. Now I give thanks to everyone who shares here to make our life more beautiful. Today I feel relaxed so I like to share two happy moments with you guys. One is from my real life, another from my virtual world. I love to see the moment of my students rushing into my classroom to occupy the first few rows of the seats;I love to read the replies from you guys the minute I log in the CFL. What is your happy moment please?
  17. Found yourself in a cultural quagmire? Wondering what those phrases and comments really mean. Have no fear. We can all share from our own experiences, strengths and hopes right here in this thread. Of course, you may or may not agree with my translations, so please feel free to add your own. To start with, I am using some of the more typical phrases in English used by many Chinese women toward a Western boyfriend or husband: "You are cheap." Means=you cheap slimy bastard. You've got enough money to do this for me. What the hell is wrong with you? You better quit being so cheap with me or I will learn more English words to get you to spend money like I think it should be spent. ---more to come...
  18. Come this November, I will have been a member of this illustrious forum for ten years. When I first signed up for Candle, I would have never predicted I would have hung around that long. Needless to say, over the course of those almost ten years, I have seen many members come and go. Many I missed and still do - a few others I was glad to see go. And over the years I have also seen others who were tireless in their efforts to help those going through the process. These folks were such great assets to the board. I am speaking of members like Donahso who was our fearless leader; warpedbored who now has that thankless role; and Frank 1538, a member who many may not know, but was a positive force of help and was an encyclopedia of immigration information. When Frank left the board a few years back, it was a major loss. I say all this because I want to recognize a specific member of this board who I feel has gone far beyond the call of duty in immersing himself in the subtleties, arcana, and more esoteric aspects of the visa process. In a process that is constantly changing, this is no small task. This member repeatedly gives wise, solid information that newbies, those in difficulty, and those who have been blue slipped for whatever reasons, can readily use to deal with whatever they are facing. dnoblett, my hat is off to you and I want you to know as an "Old Old Timer" of this board, I appreciate so much what you do for this community. From the things you post, I am well aware that you have spent much time and effort exploring and keeping current on the visa process and its intricacies. Again, I thank you for your sacrifice and your efforts. There are many other who help as well. It's just that the job Dan has done is exemplary. He has helped countless folks here and he should, at least in my eyes, be recognized for it. I wasn't sure where to post this, so if a mod wants to move it, feel free.

  22. I just got off the phone with Mick and he asked me to post a message that they got their visa this afternoon. Everything went smoothly. He said that there were probably 200 people there today to pick up visas and that he thought there were 12 people from the CFL and 001 boards. He mentioned that the ladies all shopped until the dropped Sunday.
  23. I think the guy is too busy trying to prevent "visa card blisters" in Guangzhou.... You go tell her my man who rules !
