Fees, Medical Exam Hospitals, etc. ????
amerchin replied to castaway109's topic in General Visa Discussion & First Steps
Pay the 830RMB at the bank first to get the receipt. Then take the receipt to the medical facility. If you follow the link listed by Larry you'll see that different medical facilities have different prices. Those are the only places you can go for the exam. If a medical facilitiy allows you to expedite the results (like the one at Shamian Island) then it's an additional cost of 100RMB to their exam price. If you want them to give her the vaccinations that will cost extra. Vaccination book is extra (no sense in getting the vaccinations without the book). The post office will want 20RMB from your SO to pick up the passport and visa. -
I also agree you'll have to get new ones when you receive your package. Just don't run out right now to redo them, wait for your GUZ mailing.

Another marry in China question
amerchin replied to itwontme's topic in General Visa Discussion & First Steps
I hope this is the last of the jabbing back and forth. We're here to try to help each other the best we can. A lot of us are still here in forums which we don't have to be. The only reason we're still here is to try and guide those who haven't been through this process. Please don't take a statement in the wrong context. Could some things be stated differently? Probably! But usually we at CFL do not mean to insult or ridicule anyone who comes to this site to ask a question. If we do it's usually in jest to the oldtimers here. If you think you have been picked on then ask that person what they actually mean by their statement. You might see it differently once you do. -

amerchin replied to jtaylo69's topic in General Visa Discussion & First Steps
Thanks for your detailed events. I guess I'll go through the same next week but probably in a different pace. Wish I had the time to take off from work to get it all done in the shortest amount of time. -
GUZ also has a FAX number but I don't have it. I believe someone recently posted this but I can't recall where. Perhaps someone else reading this has the number.

Chinese travel agencies
amerchin replied to notrevorich's topic in General Visa Discussion & First Steps
I had my SO buy her one way tickets in China. We saved about $300 US. This includes a night at the HK airport hotel because she wanted the non-stop which only takes off early morning. Only major cities can sell airline tickets out of China (GUZ, Beijing, etc.). The other cities won't be able to bring up any info on international flights. My SO had her travel agent contact a GUZ travel agent to book the flight from GUZ to HK and HK to the US. She paid her travel agent and didn't have to deal with the GUZ travel agency. GUZ agency mailed her agent the tickets (took one day regular mail). The rest of domentic flights her agent handled. This would have cost me over $900 US and not include the hotel stay which I priced at $293 US per night. The cost I stated above is for a one person and one way. -
Another marry in China question
amerchin replied to itwontme's topic in General Visa Discussion & First Steps
All you have to do there is probably have a banquet with her family and friends. They've already accepted that you've been married. Whether or not you decide to wear the traditional outfits are up to you. They probably will even accept a regular suit and tie. Talk to your SO and see if she wants to have a traditional tea ceremony. All that is is that the both of you get on your knees. Her parents will be sitting down on a chair in front of you. Tea is poured and the both of you lift your arms up to serve them to her parents. While you lift your hands up with the teacup bow your head sleightly down. Use both hands. If her grandparents or other elders of the family are there you might have to serve them as well. The tea ceremony shows a sign of respect. It's usually done at the parents house on the day of the banquet. If that is not possible it is done at the restaurant in a private room or in a corner somewhere away from the crowd. Bring Elvis with you for entertainment but preferbably the younger Elvis. The older Elvis will need a table all for himself. -

Vaccinations Needed for K-3?
amerchin replied to singularis67's topic in General Visa Discussion & First Steps
The vaccinations in China are not included at the medical exam, it's an additional cost. For those who do get vaccinated in China you have to get the vaccination booklet to prove that you had the shots. Once you get to the US the Civil Surgeon will give the additional booster shot to complete the requirement. The medical staff in China will tell you that. You need a couple of months before the taking the booster shot so not all the the vaccinations can be done in one sitting. Most SOs will not stay in China that long for the followup shot! For those who will get the shots here in the US by the Civil Surgeon, not all insurances will cover this. This is why most people have the majority of the shots done in China. -

Congratulations to you both! -
I agree with others on Bush is probably the reason for the statement. I would be more concerned about the bird flu thing than the terrorist threat. There's already a problem in a province of China. It's not mutating to affect the people as of yet but all you need is some people to be sick and they will shut down travel in that area. For those people who are sick, it might not be bird flu. They'll just need time to quarantine those people to see what cause their illness. That's all you need to get stuck there or not be able to get to that section of the country. The other thing to avoid is Hong Kong's WTO meeting for anyone who has to travel close to the meeting site. Some how those types of protest almost always spark some violence or vandalism. I'm not sure of the dates of that meeting or the conference site.

You can put those pictures in if you like. I think the pictures with the both of you together and family members are more important. I took a family photo from our engagement party (her family). I copied the family photo (1/2 a page of a 8 1/2" X 11") and numbered each person on the picture. On the bottom half of the sheet I typed the name and relationship of the family member. At the interview the VO didn't want to see any pictures.

I've said it before that if you're a K1 don't send wedding like pictures as proof. You don't want to further confuse the confused.
