  1. Congrats! We hope to follow you soon in getting the 10 year GC.
  2. I'm about to send out my I-751. Other than the letters from my friends are there any other section of docs that I need a notary for? I'm just double checking and don't want to get RFE. Thanks!
  3. Congrats to the both of you! Now it's time for the waiting game for the snail mail.
  4. Some banks allow you to see it on line (electronic banking) and you can print out the canceled check (both front and back) as well. At the bank you can request for the copy (both front and back) of the check. Even though they might not have the original check that you wrote they should have a scanned copy at the bank's computer. They still have to have some sort of evidence that you wrote the check (signature) and the transfer of money was done because of it.
  5. Congratulations in becoming a citizen of the US! No more renewal money for USCIS anymore. Just get that passport quick and have the freedom to have fun at anywhere & anytime you want!
  6. When we went for our marriage certificate we weren't allowed to put her last name as her middle name. Our three choices were to: 1) Keep her name as it is. 2) Her last name - my last name 3) My last name I have heard of some people at candle were able to place their wife's maiden name as their middle name. We didn't have that choice so my wife decided to just use my last name. Some Chinese women will want to keep their last names but most will not fuss about it much. The Social Security office did not give us a SS# when we applied for it and we had to wait for the card in the mail. They put my last name on the card because of our marriage certificate listed her new last name. The DMV in my state will not allow you to apply for anything without a SS#. The utility company in my state allowed me to add my wife's name on the bill. I did this online by e-mail without even having to speak with anyone. This comes in handy when applying for the I-751 when you have to show joint ownership, accounts, etc. I have also read here that some utility companies will not allow two names on a bill. All and all it really comes down to what are to rules in your state and whether or not you have someone to really help you or a "NO you can't person". When you do run into a "No" person you can try another office or come back another day but hopefully not to the same person. Good luck!
  7. Hats off to you for stepping up and helping a fellow human being in need. A very good attorney comes in mind to help with your friend's I-751 in the future. They'll be able to advise you on what other steps you can take so that she'll be safe from that lunatic. If there are any police reports that you can get for her (not only involving your friend but others) it would help a lot to document the abuses. If divorce papers are filed be very careful of her husband. See if the lawyer's or another address can be used instead of yours or her future address. I believe a home address is usually typed on the papers. Why do I say this? If this nut can waive a gun around who knows if he'll go looking for her and use it. Restraining orders are only for sane people and not abusers, and that's why it doesn't usually keep them away. Using a different address will keep you, your family, and your friend safer. That's only a few things I can think of to add for now to what others already have said.
  8. Congratulations! No interview, how lucky is that? No lugging of paperwork. Not having to take a day off from work. Not having to worry about the questions being answered correctly. etc. All for the cost of an EAD.
  9. Biometrics and Interviews are usually held at different places. If both notices have the same address then I would think it's for the same reason. If both addresses are different then I would say one is for biometrics and the other for the interview (either for AOS or to make things more clear to them). The fingerprint notification might be to make sure the person who was fingerprinted in CA is the same as the person presently in NY. All this is just a guess and nothing more.
  10. Congrats, gather all your docs, and good luck to you both!
  11. I couldn't get into USCIS website. I guess they're changing all of their pricing. It would be interesting to see if requirements and or procedures have changed.
  12. Ditto to the above answers. If her passport name is different than her green card's last name she might bring along the marriage certificate just in case. I have heard of people whom have traveled with different last names on the passport and GC without any problems, but you never know...
  13. Congrats on your pre-father's day gift!
  14. For my SO it was $100 in cash (follow up booster shots included). She wasn't on my PPO insurance plan because it didn't kick in yet. If she was I wonder if it would have cost me anything at all?
  15. It's bad enough to see screw ups within the same department in that state. The situation that you're in, from moving from CA to NY, who knows when they will decide. I will agree will Carl to set up an infopass appointment. You have nothing to lose except a day from work. Although I don't think they'll grant an AP if your case is pending.
  16. Just to add info on the dependents. Current Price: I-751 application cost is $205 Biometrics cost $70 per dependent on the application. For one person the total is $275 Starting on July 30th 2007: I-751 application will cost $465 Biometrics will cost $80 per dependent on the application. If there's just your SO the total is $545.
  17. There's always a good and bad side for combining EAD & AP to the new rates for AOS. It might be more convenient for those who plan to work and travel out of the country within the year. It's a waste of money for those whom will wait to get accustom to their new life here, not traveling nor working immediately, to spend over a grand in application fees will be a waste of money. Traveling because of an emergency is a different situation in itself. As for advices given to other couples: At the start when I gave advice (that I've learned here) to couples whom didn't heed my advice, I felt a little insulted. I've found out later on that often times people in China will receive false info so that they will hesitate in their actions to the advice you give them. Another problem is that some of them still think (when they first get here) is that the way they do business in China is the way it's done here (probably it's because it's the only way they've known all their life). The last one I could think of is pride. They can't be wrong so they won't follow your advice! My wife and I will still be giving advice to people who will ask for it but it won't bug me anymore if they don't follow it.
  18. Congratulations! With the approval of AOS (or GC) you don't need the EAD. If the AOS was approved, the welcome letter should be on its way followed by the GC.
  19. Congrats, way too long a wait! Soon we'll be on that road to apply but hopefully not as long and no name mistakes.
