Hi, Guys, I am planning to apply the Re-entry Permit for my wife. I am going to China because of my new job assignment between October and November this year. The processing date for I-131 for NSC right now is Feb. 12, 2007, which means the process may take more than 4 months. I am afraid that when the case is approved, my wife and I both will be already in China. So, should I ask the USCIS to forward my approval notice or document to the US consulate near where we live in China (in our case it is the US consulate in Shanghai)? I understand that the processing date listed by USCIS sometimes is quite misleading...Does the USCIS do the security check for I-131 application too? Any advice,comments and experience are greatly appreciated. Have a nice day!

Thanks, guys! Something I learned from our experience during our AOS process: . If you find anything wrong with your process, such as typo, additional evidence request and check return by USCIS, call USCIS right away to correct and follow it through. . If your case has been transferred to the local USCIS office and you find something wrong, go to the local office immedidately to clarify it. You can do it by the online Infopass appointment. . Dress a little bit formally during your interview.

After a quite long delay because of the constant mistakes by USCIS and US Post Office (please see my timeline below), we had our AOS interview on 06/14/07. Our interview schedule was 1:15 Pm. My wife and I arrived at USCIS Detroit about half hour early (without the interpreter although my wife spoken English is quite limited). After passing through the security check, we put our interview notice in a tray, waiting in the lobby. At about 2:20Pm, a nice black lady called us and she apologized for letting us wait so long...We were sworn in. She asked us that why we filed a motion to re-open the case. I explained to her about the mistake caused by the US Post Office and showed her the apology letter from the Post office manager. She started asking us for our I-130 approval notoice. I told her that it should be in our case file, and she found it. Then, she started asking my wife the following questions: 1. Have you ever been a member of any organization? No. 2. Have you ever been arrested or imprisoned? No. 3. Have you ever used drugs? No. 4. Have you ever been a prostitute? No. 5. Have you ever practiced polygamy? No. 6. Are you still living in the same address? Stated our current address. My wife could understand the above questions... Then she told us that her questions are done...I insticntly reponsed to her: It's done and so short?...She smiled and said 'Yes'...I said we would like to show her our photos. She said 'OK' and flipped through our photo albums. Because my wife's wedding photos are quite beautiful, she showed them to one of her co-workers, saying that these photos are like post cards. Then, she chatted with me about my work and asked me for the updated employment letter, I told her that I am a scientist with quite many inventions. She asked me where I got my Ph.D., I told her that I got my degree in the States and my Ph.D. advisor is an internationally renown professor. She seemed interested in my inventions (technical documents and patents). She mentioned to me that one of her friends working at GM is doing similar research work, and I explained to her that new technology...she kept smiling. Finally she asked whether my wife has a SSN, we gave her a copy of SSN. Then she said we will recieve our new card with 30 days...I forgot to give her the employment letter and she seemed forgetting that too. Totally the interview lasted about 25 minutes. BTW, before concluding the interview, she took my wife I-94 form. I asked her about stamping my wife's passport, she said we will have the card soon. She did not ask for my wife's EAD card (I don't know why?). I appreciate CLF so much for all your help during our process from K3 to PR. Good luck to everyone!

David, From the information you posted here (http://candleforlove.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=19708), the I-485 processing time at Detroit office from filing to interview is about 180 days. I have not seen anyone's case being transfered from Detroit office to California Service Center...no interview, please... Thanks...

I think my wife will be interviewed in Detroit office...

My wife did the biometrics (fingerprints and photograhps) for both her I-765 and I-485 today... Thanks so much, guys, for your help...

David, Our local USCIS office is in Detroit... We sent our supporting documents to the National Benefits Center (E-filed I-765) on the same day we e-filed I-765. However, we didn't include the two color passport photos since the e-filed confirmation receipt tells us not to mail photos (and we followed their instructions)...Will this cause problem or delay? It's really confusing! Should we send the supporting documents again along with two color passport photos? Thanks!

Thank you very much, guys. I e-filed my wife's I-765, and got the confirmation receipt. On that confirmation receipt, it says "you will be receiving a biometrics appointment notice by mail with a specific date, time, and place where you will have your fingerprints and /or photo taken". However, I followed David's advise, and called the USCIS (1-800-375-5283) to see whether I can make a biometrics appointment by phone. Well, they did let me make the appointment for this Saturday. I further asked whether my wife can do her biometrics for her I-485 or not, they told me no...we need to wait for the notice for the I-485 biometrics appointment. Another thing I got a little confused is that on the e-filed I-765 confirmation receipt, it says "DO NOT mail photos or copies of identification unless requested to do so by BCIS". Does this mean that we should not send the two photos along with our supporting documents? Thanks again...
