  1. http://www.userfriendlyonline.com/pics/congarat.gif Ling has 3 friends we met in Gz that she still talks to very often.
  2. I just keep thinking about what I was like at 15 and the idea of having a daughter who has to deal with boys like I was.......................
  3. http://www.userfriendlyonline.com/pics/congarat.gif Kewl. We're anxiously waiting for our daughter.....I raised two sons before. I honestly don't know if I'm ready for a teenage daughter..................................*yikes* But she's a great kid and we both miss her tons.

  5. I was given a nice garmin for a present awhile back. It is too hit/miss to be worth the bother. I had it replaced under warranty twice with no improvement. As a hiker and climber I would LOVE to have a reliable GPS (could have been extremely helpful when Ling and I went hiking up on Mt. Hood yesterday) but I've found them to be completely useless for anything other than an altimeter up in our Oregon and Washington mountains.
  6. Yeah, yeah, yeah.....and when I was a kid we didn't have a telephone or a TV and I had to walk to school through 10 miles snow--UPHILL both ways.........
  7. Kewl *cross fingers*......seems it would be easier for them too if we could do both in one trip downtown........yeah, I know, I know.....the .gov never does anything the easy way......
  8. Nah....Ling's standard answer is "Bu hao kan!"
  9. Ok. Thanks. I read the letter several times and didn't see a hint of anything "interview" but I had never noticed anyone mentioning a special trip just for the biometrics.
  10. Today we recieved an I-797C with a request to come in for biometrics on 6/15. It doesn't say anything about an AOS interview. Will there be a separate AOS interview later or is the Biometrics appointment part of the AOS interview???
  11. It takes 3-5 days to show symptoms after exposure to the flu. Your wife's contact with a bird was just an unrelated coincidence.

  13. Thanks guys, I think I'm not going to let this go. Maybe I need to find a good ghost town or something real old that's American. I also like the comparison of old photos. I don't know if it would work with Jen, she still seems a bit care free about things like that. Head on over to Arizona and take in some Pueblo ruins.

  15. My local SS office had it right. The paperwork Ling signed at the office specifically stated that she was eligible to work. I read the statement to the SS Clerk and asked if that was correct. He concurred. I told him that many have reported that in spite of the law, they are receiving SS Cards stamped "not eligible for work...." He said that is incorrect. Ten days later Ling got her card stamped "not eligible for work...." So it isn't the local office that is making the error. Someone, somewhere else is violating the law and someone with deep pockets needs to hire a lawyer and get this fixed. It should say "eligible for work only with DHS authorization", until you get your green card approved, at which point you can get a card without the stamp. But work authorization is a requirement for an SSN, unless another government agency requires it. We haven't yet heard of a NOT authorized for work SSN. The SS clerk told me it should say nothing. Where is this magical "DHS authorization"? It's an EAD right? But the law says a K1 is eligible to work without an EAD. The local SS office confirmed that. Ling's application that we signed does not say "eligible to work if you also file and AED and wait 90 days." That is the point. A K1 is eligible to work. Period. The problem is getting a SS Card that comes without additional requirements from DHS.

  17. No such gift was ever mentioned to me either. She certainly made certain we gave each of the children a generous red envelope at Spring Festival, and she let me know that she'd borrowed some money from her sisters that she wasn't shy about asking me to pay (less than $100). So I doubt very much that any kind of "dowry" to her parents is traditional in Shenyang. I did have to buy her the traditional 3 pieces of gold after which her parents gave me one piece of gold to signify their acceptance of me into the family. So again, it doesn't seem to have been a case of tradition not being important to Ling.
  18. That was the case on March 29 when we interviewed as well. Many, many blues while I sat there waiting for hours was not much of a confidence booster.....
  19. Would it be unreasonable to post info about abusive VO's (when the abuse is clear-cut like demanding the interview subject to speak English) in the Guz Speaks forum so the conscientious person(s) reading our questions can perhaps do something at their end????
  20. According to the web, the Portland office is only processing interviews for people with early November apps. Looks like your's is cooking right along Dan.
  21. Poor people in Shenyang clean with water. When she arrived in the U.S. Ling knew about bar soap for washing hands and clothes, and liquid soap for dishes. Laundry & Dishwasher soap, glass and counter cleaners, bathroom disinfectants----not a clue.
