  1. Well, we requested a late October interview and today our daughter received her P4 with a Sept. 27th interview. So the family is buzzing like a bee hive. We had requested late October as her grandfather is the only one who is really able to accompany her (she is only 15) and he is a farmer. Harvest will not be done before the end of Sept. So he tells us he can hire someone to take care of his farm's needs while he is gone for RMB30-40 per day. Ok. No problem there. Ling really wants to pay all these expenses herself. I hope for her sake her EAD is granted soon. It has been 107 days since we sent in the AOS w/EAD apps. We have an infopass appt. for Wed. morning--hope we can get some positive news/direction out of that.
  2. Our daughter received her K2 P4 appointment today--Sept. 27! So I guess we're going to get to play the same "hope for pink and an on-time visa at China post on the 29th."
  3. Most places in China that would normally close on Sunday will remain open because of National Day. But take extra cash and pack extra clothes just in case. We had to wait 6 days for Ling's visa.
  4. Or John Wayne playing a Japanese Samurai.....
  5. I despise gardening and mowing the lawn but I don't mind grabbing a shovel and digging a big hole now and again.....
  6. Google.com is your friend. I googled BMW commercial music and found all kinds of info.
  7. sorry to hear this. I hope your overcome happens very soon.
  8. Yeah that map definitely has room for improvement.
  9. The China Post is their version of a post office. When you complete the interview receiving a pink slip you stop by a booth at the consulate and complete an EMS mailing label for your visa packet to be deliverer, EMS is China's version of Fed Ex. This is the only option offered for picking up the visa as of a couple of years back. The specific location for this pickup is the secure location within a bank not far from the consulate. When you enter the building to pickup the visa packet there is a machine where you push a button to get the ticket for your place in line. People are called in to the window for visa pickup by number. When it is your turn, you proceed to the window and present your ID, they will then get your visa packet out and have the beneficiary sign for it. There is also the ability to have it delivered to your home address if you live within Guangdong Province, but most choose to pick their visa up in person. There are many China Post locations but only one specific one is used for the pickup of visa packets in GZ. Not quite what we experienced last April..... China Post is 5 or 6 blocks from the Consulate. When entering the post office (not a bank), to the far right is a side room where the visa packets are handed over. We just walked up to a table (racks of sorted packet envelopes were behind this table and off to the right) and gave our name. They pulled the packet and handed it to us. Oh great... rows of packets in plain view of people walking in.. that sounds real secure. What did they do, change locations from the bank setting to the post office setting ? >L They're behind a big table and there is a security guard there. Stop being paranoid.
  10. Just to make sure I am reading this right did you say you saw that Levis were made in China? I have seen the Levis manufacturing plant in Meddillin, Columbia but I did not know they had one in China. I too have seen USA brand name things in China cost a lot more than here that's for sure. I just Googled it and according to the web there are two cities in China that manufacture Levis jeans. Wuxi City and Guangzhou. Ling bought some "Levis" for her family in GZ. They were clearly counterfeit--cheap, lightweight fabric and typos on the otherwise "official" Levi's garment tag on the back. Oh, and they only cost RMB40 each

Same place, but they didn't provide anything until they verified Identification. I didn't feel it was necessary to specify the obvious.

  13. On a couple of my trips to China it was VERY difficult to get an net connection. Maybe he's just not home yet.
  14. Hi Ling-Curt, Did you try to use the third reason to schedule an infopass appointment? I also want to figure out how can I get my EAD quicker. Last time I went to Portland local immigration office, they told me to send I-485 package. I hope I can get some advice from them if I can get a chance this time. BTW, what is I-98? Does that allow you to present yourself for your case and talk to USCIS directly? I used the second option: question about an application that is already in process. G-28 is the form to allow the USC to talk directly with USCIS.
  15. I once spent a week in Beijing when it wasn't any better: http://www.userfriendlyonline.com/beijing10604/photos/PA060001.JPG http://www.userfriendlyonline.com/beijing10604/photos/PA060004.JPG But I've been several times since that weren't nearly as bad. In many ways China reminds me a lot of big U.S. cities in the late 50's and early 60's.
  16. We now have an infopass appointment for August 22nd to try and learn just what the two delays have done to our overall process and timeline.
  17. You are learning! Yep that one bugs me often when I see the "My Visa is expiring soon" comment. Not the case anymore, they wont do the EAD stamp anymore, they will check into what the hold-up is and perhaps get the ball rolling again. http://149.101.23.2/graphics/lawsregs/hand...88b_081806r.pdf Well, we looked online again tonight and were able to get an infopass appt. for 7:45am on the 22nd......
  18. That notation is there to instuct any prospective employer that the SSN by itself does not convey work authorization, the person needs to either show an EAD card or green-card. Also after you get the green-card, you can visit the SSA office and get the "DHS auth" notation removed. ...except that for the first 90 days an EAD isn't required but try to explain that to a prospective employer when you've got that DHS stamp on your SS card.....Ling is now past the 90 K1 allowance with no EAD in sight as of yet (filed on 5/4). So now we just sit and wait...... hey Curt i think you can make an InfoPass appt and get a temporary one if its past 90 days http://candleforlove.com/forums/index.php?...hl=ead+question Yes, but because of the phoney RFE's our case isn't "officially" past 90 days yet. Before our phoney "change of address" crap last week our case listed a filing date of July 14 (the date they received my SECOND set of tax returns) rather than the May 4 date they ORIGINALLY received our package. Last week when I called about the phantom change of address they initiated, they said I would recieve a confirmation of our call in 45 days. I'm still waiting to find out if that will once again have reset our OFFICIAL filing date. I tried to get an infopass appt. and was told there are no interview dates available in my region. (Portland, Oregon)
  19. It's been almost three weeks without a response so today I called DOS. I gave them the original case number and was told that our daughter's DS-230 and OF-169 have been received and loaded. DOS also confirmed this was the appropriate proceedure for our K2 follow. So I guess now we wait as if the P3 is done and the P4 w/interview appointment will be here in 3-6 weeks or so. If they assign an interview earlier than the late Oct. date we requested, then I guess we contact GUZ at that point and ask if the interview date can be rescheduled.
  20. Uhhhh....that's just another way of saying what I said. You want to work? Get a work visa, not a tourist visa. Sounds straight forward enough to me.
  21. Why would they need to???? This is about changing an existing visa from one type to another or overstaying a visa. It doesn't say you can't get one.
