  1. http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20090112/wl_nm/...ide_centenarian BEIJING (Reuters) ¨C A 107-year-old Chinese woman who was afraid to marry when she was young has decided to look for her first husband and hopes to find a fellow centenarian so they will have something to talk about, a Chinese paper reported. Wang Guiying is worried she is becoming a burden to her aging nieces and nephews since breaking her leg when she was 102 and had to stop doing chores like washing her clothes. "I'm already 107 and I still haven't got married," the Chongqing Commercial Times quoted her saying. "What will happen if I don't hurry up and find a husband?" Born in southern Guizhou province the child of a salt merchant, Wang grew up watching her uncles and other men scold and beat their wives and often found her aunt crying in the woodshed after an attack, the paper said. "All the married people around there lived like that. Getting married was too frightening," she said of an era when Chinese women had few rights and low social standing. Many also had their feet bound in an excruciating process aimed at making them look more dainty and marriageable. After Wang's father, mother and older sister died, she still shied away from marriage. Instead she moved to the countryside and survived as a farmer until she was 74 years old and no longer strong enough to work in the fields, the report said. Her nephew in the booming city of Chongqing then took Wang in, but she is worried he and her other nephews and nieces are too old to take care of her now even the youngest is 60. "My nephews and nieces are getting older and their children are already tied up with their own families and I am becoming more and more of a burden," she said. Local officials have said they are happy to help Wang search for a 100-year old groom, and suggested her family get in touch with old people's homes to find candidates, the paper said. 2. I made only one trip to china to see Yan. There were reasons why only one trip to china and Yan had a clear answer for this question if asked during the interview. More than anything else how prepared you are going in I think is so vital. You try to make a case for yourself that you have a true relationship. Reading this board over several years something that has caught my eye is the mention of confidence during the interview and success of a pink slip. While this is a good list and we all hope it does some good to future petitioners. The sad fact is we have no defense in dealing with a VO that has had their ass chewed out by upper level management . Maybe this person has not met their quota for the month in interviews.Maybe a fight with the wife that morning. How much does this have to do with a pink or blue slip handed out. We can only guess. On one last note GUZ moves the "bar" on us all the time . What passed last year may not this one.
  3. I used 3 photos to front load my petition. I wrote on the back of the photo where it was taken and date along with a notation about the photo. we were in a photo with her aunt and uncle in Beijing in one. A photo of some friends that we visited in Beijing at their home. This one Yan was asked about during the interview. She said she could not recall their names (the wife was from south africa).I had gone into detail about this meeting when I front loaded the petition. Yan passed the interview . The last photo was with Yan and I and her parents in ChengDu. She was not asked for any other photos at the interview.
  4. Yan has advised that you should just let things roll the way they are. She said it is a "nice lie" for whatever that is worth. She said we americans do not understand the chinese culture. and it can go two ways. If it does not work out well then he would maybe hate you. However if it works out he maybe become your new best friend. Just pray he has a long and happy marriage if it come to that. If it blows up on him then even years later he would be angry with you. I am always of the mind set that the first trip to china is an adventure......if something works out it does great. if not you still have something to talk about years later in the old folks home.....

  6. 7th question: VO asked about the supporting documents or tax? I didn't hear it very clearly. I was distracted, I answered: 2005, 2006, it's over 50000 dollar a year, 07 was over 60000 dollar a year, 08, it's 3.1 dollar a year. The 3.1 Dollar a year answer did you a lot of harm in my opinion. The VO suspects that you have not shared financial information . Something a wife would have a clear answer for. Something that would make your case stronger in the future would be for you get to a 2 year college and take a chinese course if possible and have her take english lessons in china. Good luck in the future.
  7. Larry if you look at agriculture today .Most larger farms have the farms set up for GPS use. They get a soil sample of the farm on a grid along with a gps position. Some soils are better than others even in the same field. When the planter is used a computer will dole out the fertilizer according to gps position. The good spots get more fertilizer, bad ones get less. When the grain is combined it is weighed so yield is being entered as it is harvested. That along with gps will determine where to use the fertilizer for the best advantage next year. The equiptment cost a lot so you need to be a large operator. But the advantages are there . More yield and less overall cost(and waste) in the end . More food for the poor people on the earth. If the government's will allow the people to get the food. If I remember correctly on the history of the computer The space program did more to bring that into being than any other reason.
  8. Recent divorce.....For the new members here is what has happened in the past. Chinese wife will divorce chinese husband. She finds an american to marry her. She comes to the states with child and gets her green card. Divorces the american husband and in time petitions the exhusband . GUZ gets feedback about this type of scam and it now is a big red flag. Everyone in the future suffers. A short time period between divorce and relationship with someone has been suspect for years. This includes the american also along with being in a relationship while waiting for the divorce to go through the courts. Years ago 60 minutes did a story on refugee's. The immigration officer said these words. We are not looking at ways to allow these people to stay . We are looking for reasons to send them back. A bit chilling for us bringing someone here.
  9. http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...e=k1guide#proof Lee If you are the opinion that front loading a petition helps your case per MARC .A one page letter on a k-1 describing how you met is about the only place to do this in a way that would make sense. Every year GUZ seems to have their own requirements (that change from year to year) that people need to meet. Back when yan was petitioned many people were asked about "who paid for the trip to china" This is something that I did to try to front load our petition. On xx/xx/xx I purchased this plane ticket included is the receipt from my visa. This was back during the IMBRA situation where no one knew what was what includuing GUZ I mentioned we met on Match.com. "I first started corresponding with Yan because her written english was good " and I included a few pages from yahoo msger." We traveled from Beijing to ChengDu and met her family" a few photo's were included. During yan's interview she was never asked english or chinese it started in english which she was able to handle well. How much weight do you put on this article? I included a 1 1/2 page letter. Yan's interview went smooth. Was it because I front loaded my petition or we just got plain lucky. IMHO The 20 minutes it took to type this out to me seemed better to me than Yan having to return to GUZ from ChengDu as she still was employed http://www.ilw.com/articles/2006,0323-ellis.shtm What does that language mean? It means an approved petition is prima facie evidence of eligibility for an immigrant visa, unless a consular officer finds substantial evidence of ineligibility. More importantly, this evidence must have been unknown and unavailable to DHS at the time it approved the petition. That is the nearly the whole game for your client right there, in a few words. PRACTICE TIP #1 - What the words generally unavailable to DHS at the time of petition approval should mean to skilled immigration practitioners, is that they should inform DHS in advance, at the time of filing the petition, of any potential red flags a consular officer might spot in the case. If DHS approves the petition anyway, a consulate is not supposed to deny a petition for that same reason.
  10. What I did for the NY chinese consulate was correspond by e-mail. Calling did no good .They never picked up the phone. I understand some phones have an actual busy line that one can punch. Phone never rings but you get a busy line all day. I was answered within 1-2 days of my sending an e-mail. One thing for certain they do need a new web designer working for the consulates. China Consulate , United States 443 Shatto Place CA 90020 Los Angeles California USA Phone: +1-213-8078088 +1-213-8078011 Fax: +1-213-3801961 Email: webmaster@chinaconsulatela.org Website URL: www.chinaconsulatela.org
  11. I have shipped that stuff all the time when yan was in china. Wrote it right out on customs declaration . Never any problem. Wrote it was a gift. Biggest problem shipping was more than the gift at times.
  12. http://news.yahoo.com/s/bloomberg/20081229...erg/ai3pbnjy7ty Recession Opens U.S.-China Rift Paulson Talks Bridged The global recession is re-exposing fissures in U.S.-China relations that Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson spent more than two years smoothing over. Heightened tensions between China and the U.S. may worsen a contraction in world trade that already threatens to deepen and prolong the economic downturn. The friction comes as President- elect Barack Obama readies a two-year stimulus package worth as much as $850 billion that will require the U.S. to borrow more than ever from China, the largest buyer of Treasury securities. ¡°The American economic slump is running into the Chinese economic slump,¡± says Derek Scissors, a research fellow at the Washington-based Heritage Foundation. ¡°It's creating the conditions for a face-off between Beijing and the U.S. Congress, possibly leading to destabilization of the world's most important bilateral economic relationship.¡± What separates China from the rest of the world is its incredibly low level of consumption relative to GDP,¡± says Brad Setser, a fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations in Washington. ¡°What can China do that would most directly help the world economy during a period of very severe weakness? Get its consumption back up to 40 percent of GDP.¡± For years the experts have said we americans need to save more. The chinese for the most part do save . Now it is we all have to spend our way out of this mess. So say the experts.
  13. http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/reaction/ This covers a lot on this topic. As far as dropping the bomb without being too political.... While revisionist always maintain the loss of life would have been far fewer than estimated by the government.I have no doubt that many of us using this board would never have been born as our fathers and grandfathers would have died on the beaches of japan. Having a father in the service at that time my viewpoint is a bit different than what a professor might teach in a university today.
  14. Reddragon is about the only person (as the petitioner )on this site asked for a biometrics at his local office here in the states.
  15. Dan I read somewhere on that website that we could not use Toronto to renew. I would much rather have gone to Toronto than NY city if it was allowed.
  16. We just went through this for NY . You need to go to the one in your area. Toronto is closer for us but we had to go to ny city.I inquired about a one day pickup for the passport this is the reply You can't pick up in one day. It usually takes 7 days. You may let somebody else pick up for you. When pick-up, pay cash or credit card. We need her passport, green card, photoes, and application form. *************************************** ÍøÕ¾ÒÑÓд𰸵ÄÎÊÌ⣬ÒÔ¼°À´ÐÅ˵Ã÷²»Çå³þµÄÎÊÌ⣬ˡ²»»Ø¸´¡£Çëµã»÷ÒÔÏÂÁ´½Ó£¬»ñÈ¡×îР°ìÖ¤ÐëÖª£º http://www.nyconsulate.prchina.org/chn/lszj/default.htm When yan had receipt it mentioned same day pickup. 65.00 with the married name included . We had a friend pick it up for us. Yan has heard on 001 that what photo you bring it will be the wrong kind so you pay for one there. If we had to travel to NY city twice it would have been almost as cheap to fly her to china before it expired. When you consider lost wages ect. On the chicago consulate website it says that they will mail it back to you. NY city would not.
  17. When I first introduced myself to my now wife .I said her son was as welcome as she was to come to my home and stay. Now we are in the process to bring him here. In your former post you mentioned that your husband has told your son that if he does not follow his orders that he would be sent back to china. Reading your story I believe your son will have a hard time for the next few years if he is around your husband. Your husband sounds very controling . Is he the same with you also? I have a neighbor who sounds like the same person you married. You could hear him yelling at his step son across the valley. I do not know how it has affected him personally but he survived this problem in his life and will someday be a doctor. I understand that at times a woman like yourself has a hard time to have a social life. I know yan would like to do more but she is working 7 days a week for now. I am saying having friends outside of marriage that could help you. You need to find a way to help your son's image in his own mind as your husband is seeking to destroy this image of respect for your son. The greatest thing a man can do for his wife is love her children. This is not happening. You must always be on the lookout to make sure that this yelling does not become hitting. If this happens then the police should be called . Yelling at someone all the time is not good but if it goes farther {like hitting)you need other help. You must do all you can to help your son. Tell him every day he is special, very smart, and you love him. Otherwise this man will beat him down in his mind. You must build up this respect for your son and how he thinks about himself. Make sure he understands he can do anything he puts his mind to. Write more if you need many people are here to help. Your story is one of the sad story's we read on this site. perhaps you need to correspond with people (on this site) in chinese if you feel your husband reads here. for your own security in this matter.
  18. We went to see some friends in Beijing when yan and I were first meeting. We had some photo's taken of us eating at a table in their home. I submitted this photo as evidence we had met. I also mentioned this in my 2 page letter of how we met. Sure enough yan was asked who these people were in the photo. She answered we ate several times in their home but I do not remember english names well. (the wife had a south african name) But they were my friends whom I knew from the states. The answer was fine with the VO.
  19. http://candleforlove.com/forums/index.php?...c=32765&hl= Read this one Someone else posted they were asked" what is the reason for entering the united states." The correct answer for them was to be married within 90 days.
  20. This sounds like it is so new that no one knows how to handle it. This might be one way they are going to handle our immigration problem . "you have been working here for 10 years without the papers NO problem just let us fingerprint you . In the mean time don't call us we will call you" On the serious side Suppose you canceled this petition. Wait a month or so and submit a new one. It seems like you should not have more than one out there at a time. People decide to not get married all the time. Maybe time to spend a $100 and talk to a good lawyer on this idea. It is not like anything is overseas yet. Could be so new it is sitting in the "I have no idea what to do with this file " pile right where you had the bio's done.
  21. Why was there a need for biometrics at this stage of a k-1 TIMELINE FOR WILLIAM & XIAO RONG K-1 VISA 5/30/07.......Met SO online via free online dating website(matchdoctor.com) 6/1/07.......Began correspondence by email and IM 12/15/07....Traveled to Nanning to meet SO in person:) 12/23/07....Proposed! Then had to return home to US 1/26/08......Mailed I-129F packet to CSC for K1 1/31/08......NOA 1 5/25/08......Received notification of scheduled appointment at local ASC for Biometrics 6/9/08.......Went to ASC in Indianapolis and had biometrics done. Surprisingly, they were very efficient and I was only there for half an hour
  22. It is harder to get out of china than get in. Going in it is anything to declare....No... have a good day. Leaving china give yourself a few hours at the airport as in Beijing anyways there was a long line and a lot of looking through bags by the staff. With the new airport it maybe different. To cancel the hotel it would be no big deal. Many people put down a hotel and never show up.
  23. Unless someone has a very good paying job in china .From a pure Dollar amount would the math add up as for as bringing in more money to the american bank account.Cost of plane tickets things like that. Yan said she could make a pretty good wage by working in a local chinese eating establishment. (if she got tips).
  24. You seem to have read quite a bit of candle that is good. From what many people here have said is that through a translator there is a chance few of the words are hers. This is something that possibly should not be held against her. But be aware that you may meet someone who is very different than who you think you are involved with. And this may not be all bad. Perhaps you can find someone on candle that for a small fee would translate mail for you. There are a lot of wives here looking for some work. Yan did this for a member of candle some years ago while she was still in china. something to think about. I would ask her for photos of her in everyday life. With her family ,children. ect. See where this leads you. You send her photo's also. Make plain that you desire time to decide on marriage. Inform her that on your first trip you need to get to know each other. That for certain there will be no discussion of marriage. Yan has confessed to me that if I had mentioned marriage when I met her that she would be very frightened. This is just yan. A chinese woman I know told me that I should write a year first then go meet and wait another year for marriage. (less of a chance of a gold digger). Yan's english was good and never accepted money from me. I did pick up some of the cost when I went to see her. Most chinese woman are thrifty. If you go to see her you will get an idea what she is like. A majority of chinese woman do look 10-15 years younger. (I know that is too bad ) Than what we think they should look like. I stayed with yan on my trip to china .We did travel some.I am not rich yan knew this it was not a problem. She is thrifty also. So it works out well. I made one trip to china. It was a year before we met. I dropped less than $6000 total to get her here. She did pay her own ticket here. She is a wonderfull person to live with. No big problems so far.
