  1. I had asked for a tax transcript and what I received was a record of account from the IRS. I never even knew there was such a thing. It is 9 pages long and has an IRS heading.Any one know if I can use this instead of the transcript when dealing with GUZ for my stepson's application.
  2. If every person was armed in that building I doubt this would of even happened.
  3. What made me so sad about this incident, is that I was stationed at Fort Hood for 5 years, and lived in Harker Heights(suburb of Fort hood, same as Killeen and Copperas Cove). I have actually been deployed though the same center as the shooting occurred. When soldiers are being deployed the center is a madhouse. All US Army agencies (JAG for wills. Medical, shots, barbers, Supply to issue new equipment, etc, etc.) are there. You are either standing in one line or another, for the better part of a day. Suffice to say, and not making light of the situation, a person armed with a 5.56mm, in close quarters would be akin to "shooting fish in a barrel!" I'm happy to see that one security person was "on the ball" and flamed him four times. Thank you, 9mm Beretta! If it had been a .45-caliber Colt, he may not have made it! 9mm have no stopping power, and this idiot get to pay the price. Yes Virgina! There is a Santa Claus! From being in the US Army, stationed at this very same post, with a "clown" psychologist, that found Jihad or whatever, afraid to deploy or whatever...Well suffice to say that you wouldn't want me on your jury! BTW, she also was shot in the encounter http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/...or-bravery.html. Which tells me that he had a lot more people he wanted to shoot! He hadn't even started yet! ROB, you were former SAS or SBS. How would have the soldiers in your country handled a soldier like this? Not flaming meant. I'm interested to see how Britain would have handled a clown like this! Last report is that the clown (and I won't even respect him as an Army officer), is still critical, but stable. The first thing he did was to call his lawyer! Now this is a defense I HAVE to see! This is better than even O.J. Any polls/wagers, on how long the jury pool will be out deliberating his fate? I suggest that his fate will be decided in 30 minutes, and the jury will sit out the court for another 2 hours, to make it look good, so that they aren't accused of "railroading" a man! The one question that I did have was the weapon that was used. I haven't seen anything definite. I personally suspect a M4 carbine, 30 round magazine, with one taped to the side. The bullets at the close of quarters would not normally tumble, but would pass through one humans body and hit others in the same altered path. Hence, the large number of wounded. Suffice to say, I believe that everyone knows where I stand. The sucking part is that in execution (if we are this lucky), is not a slow deserving death. It is extremely quick! Hi, Below is an excerpt from a CNN article about the weapons used: Two law enforcement sources told CNN that one of the weapons used is an FN 5.7-millimeter pistol, a semiautomatic purchased legally at Guns Galore, a Killeen gun shop. Details on the other gun, identified only as a type of revolver, were not immediately available. You can read the entire article here: http://www.cnn.com/2009/CRIME/11/06/texas....ings/index.html Here's a link to Wikipedia about the FN 5.7mm pistol: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FN_Five-seven My thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of the victims of this horrific attack. Best Wishes Thanks Arygle for the information, even as horrific as it is. Purchasing a weapon in Texas is about as easy as ordering a beer. Must be a new gun shop since I was there. I looked at the map, and I know the area, but not that particular shop. Sigh.....I suppose that it doesn't really matter anyway. Any of us could have purchased the same weapon, through Craig's List, private owner, or wherever. Jesus! 20 rounds to one magazine, and look at the bullets! These rounds (bullets, to CFL civilians, unfamiliar to firearms) are specifically designed to go thorough Kevlar vests and helmets. Now I understand why the rounds went so far, and hit so many people. The normal 5.56mm NATO ball round is designed to tumble after it hits flesh. These rounds are designed to penetrate body armor, and keep going! Ergo; the large number of injuries, who were in the way of the bullets passing though one person's body and striking them after it passed through one body and kept going to a second body! If this doesn't show premeditation before hand on this act; I don't know what will! The greatest satisfaction that I can see is a swift court martial, swiftly found guilty, and then sentenced. This is one time I will pray for the return of Pontius Pilate, to wash his hands of this clown, and have a nice long, slow crucifixion! May I ask permission to be the spear man, that gets to place the spear in his side? Unfortunately, he is a mass murderer and probably will get life in prison without the possibility of parole (courtesy of Fort Leavenworth and/or a super-max Federal facility), to ponder about his crimes, until he is very old and gray! I want to hear his lawyer's defense! I do hope that they choose a very dour judge! Justice should be served coldly. The judge has to keep control of his emotions, and tell the defense lawyer(s) to STFU up, sit down, and keep from laughing all at the same time! If on the off-chance he is given a death penalty, I would love to see how many protesters to the Death Penalty provisions show up, to answer for the doctor's crime. What? All 10 to 15 of them? How about if we have 200 to 300 US Army members wander around/mingle with them? Personally, I know when to speak out. I also when to keep my stupid yap shut! Since this a China/USA forum, let us look at Chinese justice. How fast would this man be convicted, sentenced to death? Crap! At least American's gave him a shot at presenting some ludicrous defensive stance justifying his actions, and he will be still found guilty! In China, they would have him scoop his own grave out, after trying him in a public court, swiftly finding him guilty (remember Chinese never like being embarrassed publicly and it looks even worse in the international news), and then quietly give him a 7.62 pistol lead injection. Otherwise, you get the rolling "death-mobile." Yes folks! Half of my family are government workers, and this item will keep your nose to the grindstone! It is like Domino's Pizza, without the 30-minute guarantee. This is a true mobile rolling, death machine! The prisons are so cold-blooded, they won't even have a death chamber to make your own final contrition. Check this out as a system of justice from China, and it is very damned real! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Execution_van. You gotta give credit to China! They are efficient and damned effective! What more do I need to explain about the crime rate in China vs US? However, in China he might get the proverbial 20-year, all PRC Govt, all-expense paid trip to Upper Mongolia, and they don't have a probation program. Guess, what the end is going to be? Gentlemen! Haven't you noticed that there is no smell of marijuana smoke in most areas of China? This crime alone, is almost a sure-fire trip for reeducation of 3 years plus, if they are caught! Hell! China is nailing people for graft and they are putting them to the needle for taking bribes! Where is Barry Madroff in the US? It is a bit off-topic, however, I will indulge myself. I have been a member of CFL for going on five years. I read almost all posts. Some of the American members have their problems, that come up in the GUZ interview. The entire time I have been here: , I have never! and I mean ever! seen a Chinese woman(s) and/or man(s) criminal history brought up. Most especially when they are subjugated to re-education programs, courtesy of the PRC. Yes! There are scammers! I'm not naive. However, can one CFL member cite me a specific post, that a Chinese man/woman was denied for criminal activity? You have hit this right on the head. In china there is respect for authority that is drilled in at an early age. As yan son is to attend school here some things are being brought to my attention. At our local school it seems most of the classroom time is used telling the children to be quiet. A local christan school is being reccomended. Yan said in the chinese classrooms the teacher is god. Children are taught in first grade to show respect to this authority and pay attention. Here we have seen clildren being beaten to death and his peers act as if this is a normal thing to do. In china they throw themselvs out 10 story buildings if the grades are not good enough. It is many years that I have been in schools. From what I hear it is almost a zoo like atmosphere in many classes. A teacher cannot do anything to a student and they know it.
  4. http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/I-130instr.pdf http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3195.html I just went to the town offices and will pick marriage certificate up in the in the morning. Another 10.00 down the tubes.
  5. Yan and I paid the visa processing fee many months ago.We decided that he should stay in china to hone his math and science skills . Now we will move forward with this process. Will yan need her divorce certificate or will just a certified transfer of custody do. I am reading Petitioners documents as follows original copy of my marriage certificate to yan and also will need a copy of my marriage certificate to my first wife. I have a divorce certificate here but marriage certificate to my first wife ????????????????For someone who has been through this has this been needed. We have decided to file with the PDF files instead of sending all these noterized documents in the mail. Yan talks to women on QQ and they say a 3 month time frame is in order for GUZ time. Do you think this e-mail PDF files really speed things up a bit. Yan hates to be doing this around chinese newyear....Crowds in GUZ suck that time of year when traveling.
  6. Ready for what? What did this do, other than display her green card on the screen? Did this simply verify that her card wasn't a forgery? What information did they want online? It was my impression that this person never dealt with this system before. She had no idea what the A# was I had to show her. It has been a year and a half ago so my memory is a bit rusty . She did have a list of questions that she needed to answer. These dealt with making sure the card was corrrect. Fraud prevention is what this nationwide system is about. A different temp agency just xeroxed the green card. She did say they had been selected for this test program.
  7. When yan went to a temp agency they ran her green card through homeland security. Put her number into the computer and her green card showed up on the computer screen. One question asked was is the photo the same?. I had to explain to the owner what information they wanted online. For now this was pilot program . Many HR departments from smaller companies have no idea how to handle the green card question. Just be ready for this in the future.
  8. Yan is also a ChengDu girl. In the spirit of being a frugal chinese wife we limit the amount of heat so far this fall. Here in upstate NY it was 14C the other morning in the house. You must learn..... to run the furnace is a WASTE...Just wear more out door clothing while watching TV at night. We do have an amish electric space heaters that you see advertised in the national newspapers. It sits about 2 feet from the sofa and she throws a blanket over it. The hot air blows on her as she rests her feet on the heater. She calls it her little nest.
  9. Is this because the average person cannot read the script. I find this to be great because over the centuries many great writings have been destroyed. By being over the internet many copies can be made all over the world and not lost forever if the original is destroyed.
  10. http://www.hcl.harvard.edu/news/articles/2...igitization.cfm ¨COne of the most extensive collections of rare Chinese books outside of China will be digitized and made freely available to scholars worldwide as part of a six-year cooperative project between Harvard College Library (HCL) and the National Library of China (NLC). The six-year project will be done in two three-year phases. The first phase, beginning in January 2010, will digitize books from the Song, Yuan and Ming dynasties, which date from about 960 AD to 1644. The second phase, starting in January 2013, will digitize books from the Qing Dynasty, which date from 1644 until 1795. The collection includes materials which cover an extensive range of subjects, including history, philosophy, drama, belles letters and classics.
  11. One thing that comes up on visa journey.com is often a self employed person makes the most of the deductions allowed by law.Buy that brand new truck and write it off the first year so you pay little to the government. From an accounting point it makes sense. However in dealing with your 1099's and GUZ they want to see you can support your wife. Not your business can support them but you personally. I believe in this economic situation here in the states they may be looking at the financial situation pretty close. In other words maybe assets are not enough. If they ask for a co-sponser it is best to provide one. For someone with a business reading this who in the future will petition someone you have to do your homework ahead of time. I also deal in an agricultural business and it is fairly easy to show a profit or loss in any given year. It depends when to move inventory. For example do you sell 10,000 bu of corn in December or January.
  12. The biggest question is how close to a chinese lifestyle do you want to live. 25 cents for a bus or $10.00 for a taxi. Four day train trip to Beijing on" hard seats" or a $200. airline ticket. $20 Hotel room or $100/night. I found this book very helpfull http://www.amazon.com/China-Country-Guide-...0768&sr=1-1 lonely planet china It has saved me a great deal of money while in china. Many times traveling to a strange city your partner knows as much as you do about that city. It is really worth the money.
  13. How about make a list of all the "old " english words she does not understand and ask the teacher to review them for the class.
  14. http://www.theplacewithnoname.com/blogs/klessons/index.html This is a LONG read. It deals with lessons learned from katrnia. People you have a fire in your home and have one minute to leave. What should you take and are you prepared to grab and run. This site helps you prepare yourself for such disasters. If you have a few hours this is such a good read.
  15. It seems that a lot of the stimulus money is spent dealing with politics http://www.capitolhillblue.com/node/19351 A sleepy Montana checkpoint along the Canadian border that sees about three travelers a day will get $15 million under President Barack Obama's economic stimulus plan. A government priority list ranked the project as marginal, but two powerful Democratic senators persuaded the administration to make it happen. My point in posting this is it seems who ever is in power (in washington)seems to have the ability to decide where money will be spent. And it does not have anything to do with what the greatest need is. This is why everything is in the mess it is. If this is too political delete....
  16. http://www.newsdaily.com/stories/tre57r3ip...-usa-telescope/ SHANGHAI, Aug. 28, 2009 (Reuters) ¡ª Astronomers from China and the United States may cooperate on building the world's largest telescope aimed at providing deeper insight into the very early stages of the universe, Xinhua news agency reported on Friday. The proposed Thirty-Meter-Telescope, conceived and headed by the University of California and the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), in an undated image. REUTERS/TMT/Handout The Thirty-Meter-Telescope (TMT), conceived and headed by the University of California and the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), is expected to be completed in 2019, the official Chinese news agency said. "It is a big undertaking and it will define the future of astronomy and astrophysics for about 60 or 70 years, so it will automatically involve a large international community," said Caltech President Jean-Lou Chameau in an interview with Xinhua. Xinhua said the university and Caltech are talking to Chinese astronomers and scientists about cooperation on funding and technology, although no final decision has been made. Canada and Japan have signed up to the project, which needs total financing of $1 billion, it said. The telescope, with a mirror 30 meters in diameter, will have the sharpest view possible of the universe and will pick up images of galaxies and stars forming 13 billion light years away. It will be located on top of Mauna Kea, Hawaii. (Reporting by Melanie Lee; editing by Elizabeth Fullerton)

  20. Politicians imposed steep fees on education and healthcare, soaking the newly minted rural capitalists. GDP rose, but household incomes dipped, as hundreds of millions pinched pennies instead of generating profits. The Chinese made lots of things that they couldn¡¯t buy. A global trade imbalance ballooned. Sounds like what is going on here in the united states .....
  21. http://mitworld.mit.edu/video/692 About the Lecture Contrary to popular thinking, China owes its astonishing economic expansion not to far-sighted government policy but to hundreds of millions of entrepreneurial peasants. Yasheng Huang¡¯s research reveals not only how small-scale rural businesses created China¡¯s miracle but how that nation¡¯s recovery from the global recession and righting the massive East-West trade imbalance depend on this same under-acknowledged sector. Huang begins with questions, including why China produces so much relative to its own consumption. He shows graphs dramatically illustrating the rise of China¡¯s GDP with a concurrent drop in domestic consumption. A nation that doesn¡¯t consume what it produces must export. Huang has pounded away at the question of this drop in consumption. He rejects explanations pointing at a Chinese bent for thrift, and believes instead that households have become impoverished in the midst of the nation¡¯s decades-long boom. Huang¡¯s research analyzed previously unexamined data to resolve this paradox and produce a novel thesis, detailing the rise and fall of rural entrepreneurship in China. In the 1980s, enabled by government liberalization, tens of millions of peasants began home-grown private businesses, from small-scale manufacturing to service delivery. They supplemented meager agricultural incomes, generating profits that they used to better their standards of living. The Chinese economy boomed. But in the 1990s, a new regime took over, taxing the grass-roots entrepreneurs and pouring money into infrastructure and state-run enterprises. The recession has struck the rural Chinese especially painfully (they make up 70% of the nation¡¯s population). More than 100 million who had migrated to cities for work have lost their jobs with the shutdown of factories, and there has been a ¡°virtual collapse in non-farm business income growth,¡± says Huang. New Chinese policies have begun to attend to rural issues, such as abolishing rural taxation, reducing fees, and spurring microfinance. This should help increase household income. But in key areas like land reform, there¡¯s only been talk. Huang believes a Chinese stimulus package aimed at reinvigorating the building boom won¡¯t do nearly as much good for the economy as liberalization of social policies and attempts to unleash once again the productive energies of the rural poor.

  25. If we go on national health care. . Your pool of people paying into what is in place now will shrink until the government insurance is the only game in town. I mean everyone is on it. Then where will this leave our spouse. Will we be forced to pay $5-10,000 per year for our wives?
