  1. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/01/09/business...tml?ref=science As it moves rapidly to become the world¡¯s leader in nuclear power, wind energy and photovoltaic solar panels, China is taking tentative steps to master another alternative energy industry: using mirrors to capture sunlight, produce steam and generate electricity. So-called concentrating solar power uses hundreds of thousands of mirrors to turn water into steam. The steam turns a conventional turbine similar to those in coal-fired power plants. The technology, which is potentially cheaper than most types of renewable power, has captivated many engineers and financiers in the last two years, with an abrupt surge in new patents and plans for large power operations in Europe and the United States. This year may be China¡¯s turn. China is starting to build its own concentrating solar power plants, More.......
  2. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/01/10/opinion/10friedman.html? I cannot decide where this should go. It is an interesting read about investing in the "green dream" China VS United States C. H. Tung, the first Chinese-appointed chief executive of Hong Kong after the handover in 1997, offered me a three-sentence summary the other day of China¡¯s modern economic history: ¡°China was asleep during the Industrial Revolution. She was just waking during the Information Technology Revolution. She intends to participate fully in the Green Revolution.¡± I¡¯ll say. Being in China right now I am more convinced than ever that when historians look back at the end of the first decade of the 21st century, they will say that the most important thing to happen was not the Great Recession, but China¡¯s Green Leap Forward. The Beijing leadership clearly understands that the E.T. ¡ª Energy Technology ¡ª revolution is both a necessity and an opportunity, and they do not intend to miss it. We, by contrast, intend to fix Afghanistan. Have a nice day O.K., that was a cheap shot. But here¡¯s one that isn¡¯t:
  3. My thought on this is you are 48 hours from the interview. If you have missed anything it is almost impossible to put your hands on it at that point. Peace of mind can be costly. If you really feel the need then do this. You seem to have your act in order. The interview process is divided into stages. Communication between the two of you is the big one. Does she know facts about you that a woman in this position should know? Where you live ,telephone number, If your parents are alive , what state does a sibling live in. When were your children born are some examples. The CCP issue is a big one if she belonged . This perhaps is where a lawyer could coach you on the correct way to answer this problem. How you met. It would not help if you are looking at your third divorce and have married the fourth wife within five days of meeting you intended. While they in our minds should not be judgemental in this matter . GUZ often is. You need to prepare for this interview long before you even decide to marry . So 48 hours out there is not much time to resolve anything. If you really are this nervous send your information as a j-peg file to the lawyer if possible so if something is missing it can be obtained and brought to the interview. I am not fond of lawyers. I have in the past been very harsh on the profession on this board. More than I should have. Back when the IMBRA was started It was a mess. Petitions that had arrived in GUZ were sent back to the states. No one in government understood how to handle this new law. I talked to a immigration lawyer and over the phone and he told me how to handle this mess. In passing he inquired if I needed help with AOS. I inquired about his fee. $2500. In most cases AOS is just making out more forms and get your act in order . Sorry no ...... I walked in with a file as big as the person giving the interview. I don't know what price you put on your peace of mind . IF it helps you sleep at night then go for it. Me I would have the steak dinner .
  4. Today Yan went to biometrics for the 10 year green card. Outside of the upper NY state winter weather traveling to Buffalo things went fine. While Yan was being fingerprinted I walked up to the window and talked to an immigration person. I showed her the extention letter and asked about Yan returning to china in another month. They assured me that with that letter she would be able to enter an U.S.POE with no problem. I mentioned that some people had trouble using that to board an aircraft in the past. She proceeded to mention that Immigration was aware of this problem (as severe problems that face an airline for allowing a passenger to board a flight without a valid visa and passport) (what prompted this lately ?)And that some airlines were not allowing people to fly with the letter smoothly. So after Yan was done with finger printing she took Yans passport and stamped a page with the I-551 . She said we still should carry the I-751 letter with us when we leave the country with the expired 2 yr green card. So she is good to go. On another note. She mentioned we have a NEW A number on the extention letter. How our government works. So the old A number will do us no good if we want to find how the case status is online. I never looked to match the two A numbers up The last thing is she said when the NEW 10 year green card arrives we should return the OLD 2 year expired green card back to her office . (By mail was fine) As people had both green cards in posession when trying to enter the country and had a problem at the border for having both. I have no idea if the computer system showed the had not returned expired one. Anyway they NOW desire the expired 2 year green card one back.
  5. Are we looking at a visitors visa or to bring him here for good?
  6. http://www.latimes.com/news/nation-and-wor...0,6025953.story More families are traveling to China to unravel the mystery of where their adoptive children came from and who their parents are. For the few who are able to make any headway, luck is a big factor.
  7. Hey you are not alone I pay 370/week in child support plus 500/month (dont ask long story). I pay half of all my kids activites/summer camps etc; almost 300/month She lives in the house (all 5000 sq feet of it) we had togather. She and the kids went on a cruise this year and were supposed to go to Aruba for Christmas but that got cancelled. When Fen gets here we are going to rent a big ass 500 sq feet studio. And oh next year my daughter goes to college and I have to come up with half her tution. Anyone want to buy a kidney or something? Yan has gone on QQ and a big complaint with a new chinese wife is their standard of living when compared to the ex. 5000 /sq ft VS 500 sq ft. For the first year of marriage you will not hear anything.......then look out . It is even worse if present wife works and all her paycheck is sent to the ex.
  8. A gps is in order. Yan gets very confused and lost quickly. Maybe it is because she is just riding shotgun rather than driving. Also yan refuses to drive on the expressway. Even at a time where there is no traffic. Back country roads are just her speed.
  9. Dan I am right behind you. Yan refused to drive the 85 wagoneer. Well the steering is a tad loose. We have an 07 yaris now. It is smaller than I want but has good response. Good luck and drive safe. Maybe Yan can get hers soon
  10. I was doing a final check of the paperwork to e-mail the required documents. On the divorce certificate is one birth date and on the birth certificate is a birthdate for a month earlier. It seems Yan and her ex desired to enroll their son into school a year early. So they changed his birth date on his hukou. Thus when we went to have a birth certificate made out by the notery. The date is of the one on the hukou. Divorce papers show one month later. Opinions on should we write a letter pointing this out or maybe just let it slide. I know a bit strange
  11. Our photo's were shown to us at the AOS interview. Yan was asked about one with her aunt and uncle.
  12. Today we received our GZO number. We have paid all the fees and have the receipts showing fees paid. All the paperwork is done ,all the documents divorce certificates ,police records ect are in hand.In a day or two I will write a cover letter with the new GZO and Have everything made into a PDF . Is the next step just e-mail pdf file to the NVCGUZ...state.gov or do I have to wait for a letter asking for this information. After they receive everything we still will have a P-3 sent to us correct? The document with the fees paid has the old case number on it. Will this will be fine to use?
  13. http://www.philly.com/philly/news/homepage...hila__High.html Zhihua Tian traveled thousands of miles from his native China earlier this year to profit from the treasures of the American education system. Unfortunately, he landed at South Philadelphia High School, where the number of violent incidents often overshadow student achievements. Tian, 19, of South Philly, and five other students who are recent immigrants are staying home today because they were among 26 Asian students who were attacked by a gang of other students throughout the day yesterday, said Xu Lin, of the Chinatown Development Corporation, who works with victimized students. Yan's son will be here hopefully in a few months. Our school system is fairly decent. We have the option to enroll him in a christian school for $6000/year. I am not really worried too much about something like this happening in our town. I have never heard about a group of students jumping each other in china. The only violence I ever heard about is the girl who through herself out the window in yan's apartment complex because she did not get into the correct high school. So I throw this out to you How do you you handle things like this. I think if it happened to Yan's son BOTH of them would be heading back to china.
  14. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000142405...2997926720.html The 12 stories in "A Good Fall," range from a piece about a distressed monk's suicidal thoughts to a story about a composer's tender relationship with his girlfriend's parakeet. Many of the plots hinge on language barriers. In "Children as Enemies," a grandfather whose grandchildren want to Americanize their Chinese names becomes irate, and moves out of the house. In another story, a China-born professor at an American college panics over a mangled English phrase on his tenure application. In the title story, a young monk who hasn't been paid his salary by a Buddhist temple feels he can't sue or find other work because he doesn't speak English. Mr. Jin says the story collection started taking shape in 2005, when he was invited to a conference in Queens held by a Chinese-language newspaper. He discovered a flourishing immigrant community in Flushing, and began visiting regularly to gather material for a short story collection. Mr. Jin, who lives in Foxborough, Mass., made 20 trips to the neighborhood, visiting food stalls, bath houses, super markets and tea shops. For one story, he spent a couple of nights in a boarding house for recent arrivals that charges $15 a night.
  15. Yan also had her son attend summer school for several years. Right now he is in a boarding school near chengDu. They are pretty strict there.
  16. Also have her sign in english her name (yan printed it) next to her chinese signature. This is on the back page. If you need to have it translated google the nearest large city and write chinese and translation. Yan needed her diploma translated and a university provided this service. $25 or so. Wait until you apply for SS number. Just go to the large city . Yan and I went to a small office and they were clueless . Yes I will throw this out Someday when we have nationalized health care. See what they deny you for. A government clerk that is just waiting for the next coffee break making a decision on your health. " Sorry that is not on the list".
  17. Maybe our president used this trip to encourage the chinese to give a lesser sentence. Then we can waste millions of dollars on a trial. I would be in favor of just letting the chinese take care of him.
  18. This would be fantastic. At Chinese universities there are people from Korea, Japan, England, Indonesia, African countries... but there are hardly any Americans. Perhaps China could help out by lowering or subsidizing tuition, which is a lot higher for foreign students than for Chinese... has to be a 2 way street Very true, but our universities already have tons of Chinese, and for good reason: the quality of the education and value of the degrees are generally higher in the US. Much of this I would think has to do with the percentage of chinese students who are fluent in english vs american students who are fluent in chinese.
  19. Talk about free enterprise could go along with our local shirts dan http://www.fubowear.com/servlet/StoreFront $25 for this shirt Dan Yan would kill me. Mao/obama could be a big seller in this country on both sides of the spectrum.

  21. As yan and I are trying to petition her son (age 16) this is something new to deal with. Thanks for the heads up. Makes you wonder if an automatic DNA test will be required in the future for any child in this position.
  22. I ordered mine 11/9 and they sent out them on 11/12 and I recieved them on 11/14 in the mail. I called them on the phone to request them. This was called a "record of account". A few months ago I ordered tax transcripts for earlier years and it did take almost 2 weeks to receive them. They came as "tax transcripts" in the heading.
  23. Now you can start a nice life with each other.
  24. I have other years with "tax return transcript" across the heading. This says" record of account" It is a little bit different format Yes I do have a long return of about 55 pages that I received from my cpa. Now the that I am looking at them side by side They seem to have the same information. This also has user short form request
