  1. It is best (need)to have at least 125% over the poverty line . This income has to be sustainable. Do a search for income requirements (Pubic charge) on this boards (faq's)
  2. When I went to see yan a few years ago she made the hotel reservations. It seems that she found some good deals on the web and "she further talked her way to more discounts". There has been a hotel building boom in Beijing the last few years. This with the slow economy deals are to be made. She could talk to a travel agent and find out more ideas. She always had travel agents buy the airline tickets for her and they would have further information about good hotel deals in Bejing. Be aware that some hotels that are lower priced still do not take credit cards. At least when we were there. http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowForum-g2942...47-Beijing.html
  3. Yan my wife is from chengdu. She thinks it is wise to take a taxi.
  4. http://www.amazon.com/Fiance-Marriage-Visa...8721&sr=8-1 In addition to the above sites which will walk you through a lot. A good book to have is Fiance & marriage visas by liona bray. This book also has a lot of good information. Use our FAQ above and the search function often .
  5. You should be good to go. keep in mind this is line 22 of the 1040
  6. On friday nights you can find Yan and myself rolling down the road to make a few stops with the company truck. It is about a 3 hour run in a 26 foot box truck. Every week is different as to what time we leave the company loading dock. We can finish the run before 11 pm or 4am. It just depends on how quickly we can get the days production done in the plant. Yan enjoys being in the truck and we do get some together time while on the company clock. One thing about this is Yan falls asleep very fast while the truck is moving down the highway. So on goes the radio. Yes dave we listen to the savage nation and sean hannity. Dr Savage mentioned this woman on his show. Maybe it is something the chinese wives would be interested in. Learning about some of america's past in a format (cooking) that they could relate to. http://174.129.234.45/Depression_Cooking/Welcome.html Growing up during the Great Depression Clara hopes that none of us ever have to experience what she did during the depression. Over the years Clara has imparted her Great Depression experiences to her grandchildren as she cooked meals from the era. The meals were simple and delicious, the stories were a mixture of misfortune and comedy, and in the end Clara kept us both entertained and stuffed to the gills. The magic of Clara is that she can turn lemons into lemonade and potatoes into just about everything else. She had a childhood that most of us can¡¯t imagine, but she was able to make the best of it and turn those trials into lessons we can all learn from.
  7. I had a new member PM me a few weeks ago. He also went through a long divorce. Just received his papers and was going to file. I suggested that he maybe hold off 6 months and then "decide " to get engaged. Then file the paperwork. Maybe this is something that should be stressed more in the future. I told him better a 6 month wait now than maybe years of waiting in the future. While yan had good english ability I really made it a point to take some chinese courses at a community college. Yan had a copy of my grades at the interview, While what I learned was far from having the ability to speak chinese to her. Perhaps this "mode " of operation would carry some weight with GUZ in dealing with this common language situation. Do es anyone think 6 month wait would still be too short before deciding to marry after divorce papers were received?
  8. "The warship fired 500 rounds at the vessel, sinking it in stormy Russian waters near the eastern port city of Vladivostok." The russian navy trying to sink a cargo ship....... 500 rounds..... Sounds like they need to have another look at their weapons system.
  9. I had a chinese friend years ago that was getting his doctorate. Brought his wife over and later when their baby was due the mother-inlaw came also.
  10. I think as far as chat logs just a few would suffice. You are at this point just trying to establish the ability to communicate. I think what you are talking about is you discussed the "likelyhood of marriage"while going through the divorce and decided to marry "after" the divorce. Right......
  11. China has invested here because of one thing. We are the most stable country on earth. We can worry about many things (most of which we are not allowed to discuss on this board) but the break up of the united states is not one of them. This being said I can see the worry that china would have at our printing press working overtime to bail us out of the mess we are now in. Inflation really taking off and the value of the notes they hold falling out of sight. Will someday in the future china offer "suggestions" in dealing with US policy in the same manner that is being played out in washington with the bankers being scolded.
  12. http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=new...id=aG_eSDsmh7rw Feb. 11 (Bloomberg) -- China should seek guarantees that its $682 billion holdings of U.S. government debt won¡¯t be eroded by ¡°reckless policies,¡± said Yu Yongding, a former adviser to the central bank. The U.S. ¡°should make the Chinese feel confident that the value of the assets at least will not be eroded in a significant way,¡± Yu, who now heads the World Economics and Politics Institute at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, said in response to e-mailed questions yesterday from Beijing. He declined to elaborate on the assurances needed by China, the biggest foreign holder of U.S. government debt.
  13. Yan said it is easy to get.About 10 days total and her boss need not know. Many chinese today go to thailand for a vacation. If anyone should ask.
  14. Soon to be in an american city near you
  15. Yan also left her son in china. Her ex had custody. She saw the son on weekends. Does she love him very much. YES Right now he is in a boarding school. He returns weekends to his father's home. He was 13 when she came to this country. We are in the process of bringing him over here as my stepson. The ex agreeded to give up custody so the son can study in the US,If he decides to return to china in the future after he receives his degree more doors would be open for him in china. A US diploma looked upon very well in china. With Yan she hopes he might get a job with an american firm and work in china. (the dream job )My marriage to yan is as good as I could of hoped for. She is a warm loveing woman. In the chinese culture hard decisions are made that we THINK we could never make. A husband and wife both leave the children to seek work in another city . Only to return once a year to the grand parents home during spring festival time. They have learned to "eat bitter". This is so at least one child can go to a good school and university. Everything is about surviving. It is a call that is made in million's of households across china yearly. Just be prepared for the day she would like him here in your household sometime in the future. If not then money will be sent back across the pond to support him and put him in a good university. In a nutshell none of this is strange for the chinese.
  16. The news clip said winter wheat. It depends upon the location when it needs water the most. Clip said wheat will be harvested in may. Harvest starts maybe around june in kansas.
  17. http://www.johnmartin.com/earthquakes/eqpapers/00000054.htm Reservoir-induced seismicity is considered to have occurred at four California sites. The four reservoirs and the largest triggered earthquake associated with each one are: Lake Mendocino in Mendocino County, M 5.2 (see CALIFORNIA GEOLOGY, December 1978, p. 275-281); Lake Crowley in Mono County, M 6.0 (see CDMG Special Report 150, p. 92-94); Lake Oroville in Butte County, M 5.7 (see CALIFORNIA GEOLOGY, June 1982, p. 115-118); and Lake Shasta in Shasta County, M <3. CDMG is currently investigating seismicity at Lake Oroville. The seismicity at this location apparently is influenced or controlled by the seasonal variations in reservoir water storage, as indicated in the June 1982 issue of CALIFORNIA GEOLOGY . . . editor. In numerous parts of the world today, including some of the most highly developed countries, many dam designers and operators have tended to close their eyes to the engineering problems posed by reservoir-induced earthquakes. One sometimes hears these kinds of defensive arguments: (1) no convincing correlation has yet been demonstrated between earthquakes and reservoirs; (2) since the natural seismicity at a given site is low, the danger of reservoir-inducement is therefore also low; (3) the geology at a given site is different from that at localities where major reservoir-induced events have occurred; (4) only three or four out of some 11,000 large dams worldwide have experienced significant induced earthquakes, and one should therefore not worry about a given site; and (5) no dam has yet failed disastrously because of a reservoir-induced earthquake, and the danger is thus grossly exaggerated. While many of these arguments have some elements of truth to them, they are essentially evading the primary issues: Virtually every careful study has concluded that there is indeed a cause-and-effect relationship between some earthquakes and some reservoirs, and two dams (Koyna, India, and Hsinfengkiang, China) have in fact come uncomfortably close to disastrous failure during such events. Furthermore, it is precisely in the regions of low natural seismicity where the major existing problems lie, because in areas of high seismicity dams are usually designed for substantial earthquake resistance anyway. The unhappy current state of affairs is that our degree of understanding of reservoir-induced earthquakes is so minimal that almost no new reservoir anywhere in the world can be declared free of this possible danger. In particular, we do not know why such earthquakes occur, and we cannot as yet recognize with confidence those areas where reservoir-induced earthquakes are more likely than at other localities. It is easy to say that the geology and seismo-tectonics of a given site are different from those at Koyna, for example, but until we understand what it is in the physical environment of Koyna that led to the triggering of earthquakes there, this is not a very meaningful statement. And one must recognize that the various sites where major induced events have occurred represent a wide variety of geologic environments; there is as yet no recognized geologic theme at these localities which marks them as particularly distinctive or dangerous as compared to the thousands of apparently similar sites where large events have not occurred. Even nearby reservoirs that seem to be in the same geologic environment have sometimes given rise to widely disparate degrees of activity, as has recently been demonstrated at Manic 3 Reservoir, Quebec (Leblanc and Anglin, 1978). Looks like this problem has been known for a while all over the world.
  18. This weekend I will see my friend who is from South Africa. They have adopted a neice to bring her to this country a few years back. So they should understand the ropes. I will ask so give me a few days for an answer.
  19. I have not ever seen anything from yan. We have a friend who is from South Africa and is black. She has advised yan a great deal on how to cope and survive in the united states. The number one thing in yan's opinion she advised was to get an american diploma. A degree from any other country is worthless. This is what she has seen. This woman has a doctorate degree and has been through the ringer. She was to teach in the city school system for the second year and one day before the school year was to start they said a question about a course that she took in South Africa came to light and she could not teach full time. She is now a sub ....that is ok for them. Crazy ..... My ex chinese girlfriend did not like anyone from India. She would say some pretty nasty stuff that I care not to voice here.
  20. http://candleforlove.com/forums/index.php?showuser=2264 Rick the above member only had SS income and went through 3 blue slips. He got approved. I would have both forms filled out. Let them pick which one they want. If the question is was the form was filled in correctly that is one thing. However if it is a question of $$$$ to make the 125% above poverty line then work on getting proof of assets. A noterized statement from a bank officer attesting to your bank account. IRA's and 401k's are an asset. How much value you have in your home minus what is owed. You should be able to overcome this without problems. Get the blue slip and see what is required.
  21. He is not my choice either and when around Yan I make more than a few grumbles when he is on TV, this said yan mentioned that only in america would this happen . A man of color holding this office for a country so powerfull. . So we wish the country well under this administration.
  22. Years ago I flew into Beijing on chinese newyears eve. Fireworks were going off around the plane. Not close mind you but to watch them explode at that level was indeed different. I was headed to Tianjin (TEDA) and an american family was onboard. Schoolteachers arriving back from the christmas holiday in america. The husband said the year before the holiday inn was on fire from fireworks as they flew into beijing. One sight that stood out in my mind was a roll of fireworks exploding up the side of a 4-5 story building. I understood that the fireworks were pretty exspensive for the average chinese to afford. I wish everyone on this board could be over there at least once during this time.
  23. http://travel.state.gov/family/abduction/p...ention_560.html Pulled this off a travel website Special Requirements for Children Leaving the US*: To ensure the safety of children around the world, countries have adopted special requirements to protect children traveling abroad.
