  1. On the advise of my gals elder sister (actually just her friend), she suggested getting her some cosmetics (lipstick) and such for a gift. She send me a scarf and tea for Christmas. So now after purchasing a good amount of this stuff, I discover today, you cannot ship such things to China without a special import permit. So I cannot send these (legally) Anyone have any experience with sending this to China? According to Fedex International shipping adviser, China will not allow any products that are for skin care (touches the skin) to be imported without special permit. Timb
  2. Can anyone recommend a decent but fairly priced shipping container company for a move from Shanghai to central Illinois, similar to what ABF provides in the States with U-Pack. Am hoping to fill up a container unit and have it shipped to the States in the fall.
  3. On my last trip to China in September, I left my fiancee about a hundred page "evidence book". Now I've got a lot of new pages to add to it such as Yahoo Messenger chat archive printouts, e-mails, photocopies of tickets and boarding passes, photos of our trip to HK, etc. Which is the best way to send this stuff to my fiancee in Nanning? I started looking at FedEx and DHL's Web site but they really are not very easy to figure out. DHL's Web site was saying they will not ship "personal mail" to China. I'm not sure what this stuff is classified as. I'm sure not going to send it by postal mail. Just about everything I tried to send to her in the past to Nanning never made it there by regular postal mail. Thanks.
  4. Hello. another request for help. I am trying to send stuff to China. I searched the site and not finding much useful information. I could swear the question must have been asked before. Why is it that i can't find much info? The only explanation I can come up with is the keywords. Maybe I am not using the right keywords. I spend the last few days researching small packages to China. It is rather expensive if I send it first class. That is what I did for a package that weigh 14 lbs, I use a flat rate box, It should get there in 5 days or so. I sent it thru the PO. The cost $85 dollars. To me that is rather expensive. But this package was time sensitive. Now I am try to send a couple more packages to China The total weight may be a tad over 70 + lbs. I am thinking that I have to avoid 1st class service. I think that I have find a company that ships 3 or 4th class service. The PO office, UPS , and Fed ex does not seem to offers those levels of shipment, only first class, very expensive.. Who does? I know if i was in China my Lao Po could get the same packagse to the states for less than 150 USD and it might take 6 weeks to get here. How do I find that type of service for packages going to China? I would really appreciate some help with this problems. Thank You. Danb PS, I would like to add a sad tale to my post. On Friday, I went to the PO and asked about shipping my 14 LBS to China. I gave them all my info on the package. I gave them a postal code of 530023 for Nanning, China. They inputted that into their computer system. They came back and told me that Nanning was in several different province sush as Guangdong and Hunan I think. Not Guangxi Province. I had them reenter that same Postal code and then Postal codes of 530001 and 530002. Same type of results. Nanning was not located in Guangxi Province according to their computer system. I wonder where I have been visiting the last 6-8 years. Needless to say I did not mail my package that day. The next day I went to Staples and shipped it from there.
  5. Hi I just went through a nightmare scenario dealing with USCIS and Consulate in Guangzhou, I finally flew out to GZ since my fiance lives there and straightened out most of the mess they made of our K1 proceeding. Anyways, she finally got her package, and shipped all the copies to me by EMS. Now it seems stuck in Guangzhou. We have used China EMS many times before http://www.ems.com.cn/ and our documents, packages always got to me very quick, 4-6 business days and without any problems. This time, she sent the copy of her package to me on Nov. 21. When I use the tracking number provided I get the following: 2009-11-22 20:51:00 GUANGZHOU Posting 2009-11-22 21:10:00 GUANGZHOU Despatch from Sorting Center 2009-11-22 22:13:00 GUANGZHOU Arrival at Sorting Center 2009-11-23 01:01:00 GUANGZHOU Despatch from Sorting Center and thats it. I was thinking that maybe its stuck in customs, but in our previous times she sent anything to me, it specifically stated "in customs" on the tracking, which it does not do this time. So our documents have been stuck pass this "Sorting Center" for about 10 days now. On their website they give a phone number 11185, but that number seems kinda short. I searched the web, google, etc. for some sort of a cutomer phone number, specifically to the EMS in Guangzhou, but without any luck. All the listinsg I get are for intermediatary companies handling parcels for EMS and things of this nature. So if anyone could please help I would greatly appreciated it, what I am looking for is a customer service phone number, specifically to EMS customer service in Guangzhou, and a number or extension / option, to get help in English because my Mandarin is just not adequate for this sort of thing. So if someone could please let me know of a phone number or provide me with a direct link where I could find it I would greatly appreciate it. Also wondering if anyone else has had anything like this happen to them and what did they do and how it turned out. Thank You
  6. The market for American products has grown a lot in recent years, especially brand products. Buying in the US is cheaper made many Chinese buy things from the people who are living in the US.There are many websites for this kind of business. So I wonder has anyone done this in here? The extensive shipping fee can be a big problem right? I am thinking of doing this as something on the side once I get the US...so thank you in advance. I am not sure how to reply to a specific person in this forum that's why sometimes I don't reply back...my writing is worse than my speaking and listening...so I am not sure if I expressed myself well.
  7. Seeing that the current pinned topic is out dated (communication, Planes, shipping) I will be updating this thread/post from day to day and bring it up to date. 9. My wife thought she had heard there was some sort of limit to the amount of chinese medicine which can be mailed to the US? Experiences welcomed. Thanks.
  10. Any suggestions? What is the best way to ship clothing and some small things from China to the US? China Post or TNT? We may have about 3 or so med size boxes.. Thank you
  11. FYI: You can mail 10 kg/22.05 lb to the States for around 300 RMB (44 USD). It's shipped via boat so it'll take a few months for it to reach your destination, but you will be able to track it. Living in Wuhan, we don't have many options for shipping. Jingjing and I are leaving the majority of our belongings here, but for the things that won't fit in our suitcases (and that Jingjing must have) we've gone this route.
  12. I have a package all ready for my wife to ship from the States to Beijing and was wondering if I should use chinese characters, pinyin or english when filling out the address in Beijing. Should I include both chinese and english? Another related question. Has anyone had any problems shipping out vitamins to China? If I write done gift, is it ok that there is more than one item in the package. Will the description of item(s), gift, be sufficient enough to cover everything in the box without giving a detailed list of the items. And the value? Should I keep it under a certain amount like 100RMB? Does the value need to be listed in RMB or USD and the description? I will being using United States Postal Service for shipping. I think this is the cheapest way. Maybe around 5-6 days.
  13. My brother-in-law (in Beijing) would like us to purchase several $40 folding Buck knives and several $200, what appears to be, throwing knives. (found on such sites as Amazon.com in the U.S. but don't see these items on Amazon.cn) By the time we pay for shipping, insurance, he pays for custom fees, and the remote possibility of it either not making it through customs (since they will x-ray and see "weapons?") or just theft, I can't say I relish the thought of even getting involved? Any thoughts?
  14. I know we have covered this topic before, but I wanted to give you my latest experience with DHL. I called and scheduled an interview for Lisa's Mom. I was told if I filled out the DS-156 online she could have an interview as early as Tuesday Jan 17th. Don't fill out online and wait much later. Well that was a no brainer. The only catch was she need the form printed with barcode on it and bring it with her. We had documents like the invitation letter and I-134 we had to send her anyway so it would just be included. Now these documents needed be in China within 10 days. Every one knows the US Postal service is 10 days at best with no tracking outside of the US. UPS and Fedex are 7 to 10 days and I am not sure about tracking in foreign countries. So I thought why not give DHL a try. Might be a good reason our government uses them to ship important documents. So I went to my favorite shipping store who is now a DHL agent. Cost about the same if not a little cheaper than UPS and Fedex. He called and they said 4 - 5 days. Wow, lets give it a try. Checked each day. It was tracked all the way. Including when it was sent out with courrier in Nanning and who signed for the package 5 days later. You can bet anytime I am worried about documents that must be in China from now on I will use DHL. Just thought I would let everyone else know so you have an option that seems to be fast, friendly and reliable.
