American foods my wife has adopted include steak, pizza, tortillas, barbeque (turkey, beef, chicken, or ribs) and "coffee milk" (half-and-half). Just yesterday we had Papa John's for dinner, and she sent me to Sam's to buy a gallon (4 quarts) of coffee milk. She won't touch milk, cheese, or cereal, or go to an American restaurant. The Chinese word for cheese is rulao (or "yi, er, san" if you're taking pictures).

After the I-94 expired, you got the EAD card. The EAD is enough to get the SS. Employment Authorization is all that is required. You do not need to wait for a green card.

What is the question? Where are you in the visa process? I have found them to be extremely helpful - once with a question about our P3 (my wife needed to submit a new form), and again when scheduling a K-2 interview for her son. Since then, they have changed their policy to only address P4/interview questions, although they have made some exceptions.

What am I missing? The EAD is what you need for the SS. The SS will get you the state ID, unless your state requires a green card.

We got Jingyu's AOS and EAD applications in the mail yesterday (and I think he already has a job lined up for when he's legal). For those who didn't keep up earlier, there was a case reported on VJ where deportation proceedings were initiated against a K2 for the unforgivable offense of turning 21 while waiting for adjudication of his case. Well, Jingyu expects to commit the same offense on Dec. 17. The INA law reads: The Washington DC USCIS office interprets the bolded portion to mean that the alien must be a minor (under 21) at the time of the AOS. Further: Other USCIS offices and lawyers have agreed that the language is simply to refer to the K-2 alien, not to place any restrictions on the case. But this case is headed for court and hopefully will tie up the "certified" decision from becoming policy (and hopefully be won). So I listed his immigration status as "Non-immigrant lawfully admitted as the K-2 son of a K-1 fiance" to try to correspond to the 245(d) verbage as much as possible. And I wrote "Please EXPEDITE - Potential Age-out" all over the envelope. The A# is Alien Registration Number - identifying the alien. If you can propagate this number to the other paperwork, it will help keep everything associated with your one alien.

K-1 here - but I think that you have an A # associated with your paperwork already, and the more you propagate it by using everywhere you can, it will help keep your paperwork together. We saw somebody end up with 3 different A#'s. This is not good, IMO. For the I-834EZ it says That is, it is optional for the form - your taxes and pay stubs should be enough - but, like, David says, have them ready in your kitchen sink for the interview.

We went to the Civil Surgeon today. Jingyu had had no vaccinations in China, so we had to pay for them all. They said to just come on down - they were open until 4. I brought a copy of the I-693 Vaccination Supplement (this is on the new USCIS web site now). The receptionist said, "Is that ALL you need?" Yes it was, thank you. Came to $150 total. Yes I know the shots are cheaper elsewhere.

They were all over Guangxi when we were there in October. They're very pretty, and taste just like lychees. I guess the lychees are the summer version, the rambutan in the fall, and longans in the winter. All very similar fruit.
