  1. My husband and I filed for a temporary work authorization at the same time as we filed his papers for AOS. Its been a few months and we have heard nothing about either. I know the green card will take a long time...but shouldn't we have gotten something about the temporary work authorization??....whats the point if it takes a year just to get that? Can anyone tell me how long it usually takes? My husband is going CRAZY out of boredom. thank you.
  2. ahh! i am confused about the SS#. my fiance and i just got legally married. he wont have a name change since my husband is the one immigrating. can i apply for the SS# now? or did i screw up by getting married first and now i can't get an SS#?? thank you all.....
  3. Hey, we just got to the US, my fiance on a K-1, and i am overwhelmed and confused. We are getting married this week...what do we do next? Can we apply for social security number now? what should be my first step? thank you.....
  4. i know there are a lot of posts about this, but i can't find much followup from people who asked the question....so!....: We are getting the medical in Beijing, K-1 visa. We therefore can't pay the interview fee beforehand at one of the banks on the list since they are all in Guangzhou or Shanzhen etc. People who got the medical in Beijing, how did you do it? Did a receipt from a Beijing CITIC bank work? (did the hospital tell you which bank?) did you just pay the fee later after the medical?
  5. yeah i had the same problem. my fiance has been living in beijing and dalian since he was 15, he hasn't lived in his hometown since then, but the offices in dalian and beijing wont give the certificates. but everyone on these forums has been telling me that all we need is one national certificate which you can only get from the place where the hukou is. maybe the directions the consulate gave us were too generalized and not for china? i can see what US was thinking -- we have separate states with separate jurisdiction in the US so you would want one from every different state. but in china its a national certificate?
  6. hey i am still really confused about all the translation business. can someone start from the top? i got confused by this sentence in the forms: "All documents not in English, or in the official language of the country in which the application for a visa is being made, must be accompanied by certified English translations." i thought that meant you didnt need translations for anything that was in English or Mandarin. so confused. my husband and i are going to his hometown next week to get the forms. after we get the forms from the little police place there, then what do i need to do with them? thanks all
  7. i have to have it translated? even if its in Mandarin?
  8. "Each visa applicant 16 years or over is required to submit a police certificate from the police authorities of each locality of the country of the applicant's nationarlity or current residence where the applicant has resided for at least six months since attaining the age of 16." -- K1 instruction packet checklist. does he need it for each city? he left his hometown at 15, and has lived in beijing and dalian since then. does he need one from dalian and beijing, or just from his hometown? we have asked the police offices here, they all say that he can only get it in his hometown where his hukouber is. is that right? AHHH! thanks.
