Can we go out of country on honey moon?
Randy W replied to jean-charles's topic in AOS & Immigration Challenges
Yes - take a look at some timelines - you will want to spend the money. There are exceptions, but the posted processing times do not include an FBI background check. -

That's similar to a plane trip, with a stop in a country that you are/are not admitted to. When you finally return to the US, you go through customs, regardless of whether you ever got off the plane/ship. -
When will we receive Social Security Card?
Randy W replied to humuhumu's topic in AOS & Immigration Challenges
But the way I read the question was that the SSA had no record of the USCIS applying, and couldn't tell him anything about that. Do you know that the USCIS has applied? -

Go back to the SS office and fill out an application (you can also get the form online). They do not automatically apply for you, in spite of what they say. -
Show up tomorrow, with the appt letter. Others have showed up early with no problem whatsoever.

What exactly will one need to apply for the SSN with a K-1 visa within 90 days of arrival to the US? Thanks. I'll defer to Frank on that one - http://candleforlove.com/forums/index.php?...f=7&t=10720 When you go to apply for it, be sure to bring a copy of one of the SSA policies.

Thanks Duke, Merc and Randy. Ok, just to recap, and set my head in the right direction, since I blew the 90 day window, its the Green Card that I am most interested in. The EAD won't help me at this point, correct? Or am I still off base here? Your help and knowledge is most appreciated. Within the 90 day window, you can apply for SS with only the K-1 visa. The 90 day EAD would not have gotten you anything, but you can file for EAD with your AOS application, or even afterwards. Specify the ( c )(9) category

Employment Authorization is necessary to obtain an SSN. You have Employment Authorization for Social Security purposes if you are a K-1 within 90 days of arrival, if you have an EAD card (approved I-765), or if you have a green card. K-1's may file for EAD within the 90 day period(a)(6), but it is almost certain to not get approved before the 90 days is up. K-3's may file for EAD(a)(9) until that visa expires without also filing for AOS - 2 years. Or - you may file the I-765 with the I-485 Application for AOS( c )(9) Three different cases - these are 3 different categories on the EAD application.

100 Most Influential Books ever written

The Brad Pitt movie 'Troy' was awesome! Did you see how he killed that big dude on the battlefield in front of everyone?...WoW!! Troy is not the movie. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0118414/ The Illiad and the Odyssey are actually two different books - The Illiad is the story of the siege of Troy, while the Odyssey is the story of Odysseus' return home - each lasting 10 years. Troy the movie is from the Illiad, while The Odyssey is from (guess which) The Odyssey. -
Reason and dates are not important for K-1 - "parents health/vacation" and an approximate should do it. The reason easily fits in the box - no separate sheet is necessary.

My little finger over the first knuckle was what I used to size my wife's ring (she had given me a string which she had tied around her finger - then I sized it on my own fingers). This came out 1 size too large - the correct size I think was 5 1/2 - I just measured it at 1.6 cm., which matches your table exactly by diameter. I will take the ring in the size she has indicated and a roll of white first aid tape to adjust the size. We can have it resized when we get back to Nanning. As a heads up there, 55 mm circumference = 1.75cm diameter.

As long as you were married on Dec 31, you can file jointly for that year. Get her SS number if you can. If not, you will have to file a W-7 (I think is the form) for a Taxpayer Identification Number for her.

You need Employment Authorization - either in the form of the EAD card, or the green card - to get the SSN. The EAD card generally comes much sooner. We are applying for our 2nd EAD card (they expire after one year), even though the AOS interview was last June.
-
Your AOS timeline will depend most heavily on the FBI background check, which can add as much as a year. Don't base your plans on those times - they are simply guidelines you can use to maybe guess around when your case may come up.

The US is 20th out of 21 nations for child welfare...
Randy W replied to rogerluli's topic in Culture & Language Discussion
. . . And the reason the guy went back to Canada? I believe it was because the Americans couldn't figure out what to put in the blank for insurance coverage. It's hell to not be able to prove that you're not poor. -

Having lived in Florida for several years (and current residents can back this up if they choose), the Canadian Snow birds travel to Florida for surgery in US hospitals, because with Canada's Universal Healthcare they would be put on a list and would get surgery based on their age and whether they have enough useful life to justify the cost. Open heart surgery for someone in their 70's in Canada is not likely. But it's cheap!!!! It all about priorities. I have always had health insurance, paid for by me or my employer, but I never leave home without it. The high cost of health insurance is primarily due to hospitals having to shove the cost of caring for those who choose to purchase a PS3 and a new car over health insurance onto those who have insurance. During the short period of time I was in Canada, the papers there had a story every day about the virtues of the Canadian health care. The one I remember was about a truck driver who had been injured in an accident in the US and hitch-hiked back to Canada, rather than risk going through the US system. You get plenty of propaganda at both ends. Canadians come to Florida for heart surgery, we go to Canada and Mexico for drugs.
