  1. It is true. When you get the green card you go to the social security office to have restrictions removed and when you become a citizen you do the same even though there may not be a restriction on your ss card.
  2. I don't understand what China would be pushing the US to do. It's article 9 of the Nationality Law of the PRC that states Chinese who obtain foreign nationality lose Chinese nationality. It has nothing to do with US law or Obama. It is China who does not want dual nationality. That is the truth. Obama does not have to give in as the US does not prohibit this.
  3. When we did it for my wife they issued a new card (she had some words stating not valid for work without ... on the prior card). I brought my daughter and they took the info but stated no new card. Her card already had no restrictions on the card. But you are supposed to do this at the Social Security Office.
  4. Born in China your child cannot ever be President of the US. Born in USA your child could.
  5. I would go to the Duty Free Shop at the airport. It is alot cheaper.
  6. I will be traveling to Beijing. Can I bring a walking stick on a US or Chinese Domestic Airline. They are a lightweight wood pole that does not collapse that has a compass on the top for hiking. I hurt my back and believe this will help me in hiking.
  7. Looking to get tickets from US to Beijing this June. Anyone have any sites other than flychina.com as I am aware of that site.
  8. I applied for a Certificate of Naturalization last week for my step daughter based on my wife's naturalization. Today we applied for my stepdaughter's passport. They took her original Chinese birth certificate, custody document, and original green card. What happens when she is called for the Certificate of Naturalization interview as according to the passport clerk, as long as the passport is issued, the green card is not returned. What happens when they ask for my step daughter's green card at the N-600 interview. As long as the passport is approved, she will not have this permanent resident card.
  9. Is there any advantage or time when a certificate of naturalization would be required. My wife was just sworn in as a citizen and her biological daughter (our daughter) can prove citizenship with a passport. So why would we need to spend the application fee for the certificate? Any suggestions as to why I should apply for the certificate.
  10. The whole family took off from work or school and attended. It was a great experience for all. It was a memorable experience. My wife got to register to vote. We will shortly apply for US passports for the wife and child. Thanks to all as this site has been very valuable and I am sure will be valuable for others. I may apply for the N-600 for my daughter but not sure. I know the passport is all that is required and not sure if any benefit to the N-600. Thanks again to all.
  11. My wife is scheduled to be sworn in as a US Citizen next week. Our daughter a Chinese citizen is a minor and was listed on the application as her daughter. Does her daughter have to be at the ceremony. She has school and may not be able to miss that day. My understanding is she becomes a citizen when my wife becomes a citizen and I then have to apply either for a naturalization certificate or passport. Am I correct?
  12. My wife was scheduled for her citizenship interview later this month but it was descheduled. The notice gave no reason. Why does this happen? It does not seem right.
  13. Thanks. Washington DC worked fine and received passports by mail.
  14. I agree with the previous posters. If you cannot get an InfoPass appointment prior that resolves the issue prior to the trip I would cancel the trip and make sure she attends the interview.
