  1. Yes,a lot is asked that you have provided in the past.Rule-of-thumb is document everything.Seems 3 years of JOINT tax return filing is the norm AND carries alot of weight.Pictures help, and by all means get your parents to write a statement attesting to the matter and have it notorized. The easier you make it for them to "check you out" the better.........
  2. SO is a citizen-hence them being here since Jan...I think a lot of what she's telling me is actually her (or maybe THEIR discussions)"thinking out loud".I don't know how to explain the risks to her and me IF and when something were to happen to one of them (as in a catastrophic health problem)..Not that they have any serious problems, but I know we're financially responsible..
  3. SO's parents came in Jan. on visitor's visas and are returning to China this month. They really like it here, and my SO says they want to buy a house and move here.SOOoo,the questions and (slight so far) concerns are rushing through me now. They're both 80+ years old.I love my SO,but now this sudden, life changing prospect really is eating at me.Any input besides "it's their culture"-as far as healthcare for them, etc.?
  4. About as easy as it gets.I like it way better than babel...... www.translate.google.com
  5. Wife arrived back to states with parents. One bag was missing, which contained some very expensive items/gifts (Ipad, silver bars, house deed(s),cash).2 nights later they have bag delivered to home(during snow),EVERYTHING was still there. So much praise for Air Cananda.
  6. Only transferring flights in Canada on the way to states.Air Canada was the only airline at the time that I could find that wife's return trip would be same as parents coming here trip.Destination-Philadelphia..
  7. Wife is going to China for a week and returning with the inlaws as well, all on same plane(s).Airline is Air Canada, for her going as well as them (wife and her parents) coming back.I've heard that in Canadian airports that as far as cash goes (vending machines, luggage carts, etc.) that only Canadian currency is accepted.Any truth to that? Also would like to know what customs forms are requirted and if the required customs forms they will need to fill out prior to arrival here (and in Canada if applicable) are available for download so I can show wife what she needs to write (in) as well as the parents. BTW.,all will be coming to US./PHL.
  8. Yes the meetings are going on.Wife got detained at Tianemen yesterday, taken to ma jia luo building, searched, and then took her U.S. passport.Talk about security!!..........HOURS later gave back her passport. She's back at mama's...
  9. Went to DC today to get chinese visa. They DO REQUIRE an itinerery, along w/an invitation letter (we used an invitation sent via email FROM a friend in China and printed it.These hurdles have been added because of the congressional meetings currently taking place.Local visa agent (never used one before) seemed dumbfounded, and wanted 500$ more for same round trip ticket I got online.BTW,the airline (United) said if visa did not go through,I could call by 11PM--CST and would be refunded 100%,minus 10$ (I forget what) fee.Got same day visa,170$.........airfare 1197$ including travel ins.........
  10. Not to hijack this thread, but I'm in the same boat now as bamaguy_77.............wife needs to go back to China kind of soon, and she's a U.S. citizen now.Between this..... http://www.china-embassy.org/eng/visas/adr/ and reading this thread,I'm under the impression that an invitation letter,written/generated by someone (whoever is doing the inviting),along with their national ID number is required?Sent from China?...........and according to the wife, she is going to need airline tickets/itinerery in hand when applying? BTW,we had'nt planned on using a visa agency,as I for instance/in the past have always gone to the embassy in D.C.,and that is what we intended to do..........and like bamaguy_77,I have'nt been there in 6+ years.Just want to get all this in order so she can get over there-I'll go back w/her later this year.
  11. Wife just called the bank in China.Man she spoke with informed her that as of just last month,ALL applicants that are not required to attend an interview (80 and older/14 and younger) need to electronically file DS-160 through the Guangzhou embassy (only).Wife says China itself made this change (HHhmm)...oh well, looks like we'll be fileing another DS-160 online......to Guangzhou this time.Hope the fact that we already filed once does'nt mess things up.
  12. Man this is a mess (we're here and they're there). It's looking like it's all due to the fact that both app.confirmation pages are addressed to Beijing-but father in law's needs to be sent to Guangzhou (hand written ?).Can't he just use the drop of service and send his app. confirmation page to Guanzhou? Are'nt all the embassies "linked",as far as anything submitted electronically?
  13. Mother in law went to bank to pay for both app. fees. She is good to go,as she is apt to have an interview in Beijing (under 80 years old). However, the lady at the bank instructed mother in law that father in law needs to send a written application to Guanzhou,as he is over 80 years old and not apt to be called for an interview. Now here is where this is sounding a bit crazy. On both confirmation/barcode pages for the online DS-160,to the far right is the Beijing consulate's address.Bank lady told mother in law that father in law's app. confirmation page needed the Guanzhou consulate's address-beings he is'nt required for interview. Both apps. have already been electronically submitted to Beijing,as that is the embassy for Tianjin.-so what has to happen now?
  14. Alright.....getting it all together to send to parents so they can take it from here.Thankyou as always dnoblett........
