  1. I gave up on paying for cable a few years ago. However I was really addicted to my ReplayTV DVR! Now I just have a dead coax cable hooked up to the antenna lead. High speed internet is a better value for watching shows I like, and if I really like a show I can see about picking up a box set nice and cheap on eBay, or even at the library. SC
  2. Congratulations! Glad to read that she is acclimating comfortably.
  3. Thank you Kyle, I can find the section, I just see three threads. Warpedbored two threads, and Mick's Welcome thread. Are Don's gems hidden from us regular users? Or as some have told me, I'm not smart enough to use CfL?
  4. I only see two posts there. Where are the ones Don left?
  5. I'll put in a recommendation for the Subaru Tribeca. It sits up higher like regular SUV so you might find it to be more comfortable to deal with than the Forester. If you are allowed to consider a used one, the earlier Tribecas had transmission problems, but I hear that was resolved a year to two ago.
  6. I was greatly annoyed that he deleted his blog thread back then, but cutting all the other stuff too? Goodness!
  7. Shocker for certain! Carl and Kyle, you both have my condolences! As for Don, I hope he will be able to love life, and all that it has to offer! I'm gonna miss him!
  8. "Don't be a dick, or you will be banned." How's that? I even manage to bring Wheatons Law into to it, which I think really simplifies it.
  9. Docs like to pull the plug as soon as they can - they can't feel what you do. I like to keep some pain pills around and always keep a few whenever I get a new prescription. That way, when something happens that takes more than IB, I have a few to get over the hump without a trip to the vet. My doc (who I've been going to for over 20 years) knows I have a stash - and it kinda pisses him off - but that's life. If he would call in a script without an office visit, I wouldn't feel the need to keep a stash. I only used two of the thirty vicadins I picked up when my finger got snipped in April. Plenty on supply for any other stupid things I might do at work.
  10. Best wishes for a healthy recovery!
  11. I'll take this as the time to mention Pacair range hood.
  12. Griz, what ever the outcome is, I certainly hope for you that it works out for the better. I have a coworker that had a similar back pain issue. The docs cut his back open and ground his spine into shape. After that he could actually walk again and not look like he had planks in his pants.
  13. Huishan Dairy is setting up a methane gas generator that should provide something in the neighborhood of 5.66 MWatts of power from a very renewable energy supply. From one article, that would be enough power to power 3500 American homes, so I wonder how many Chinese houses that will power? The side benefit might be that they will be able to cut carbon emissions by a staggering 180,000 tons, and produce over 600,000 tons of fertilizer. PopSci article. Slightly more technical Technology Review article.
  14. Usually, when I was growing up down in the Los Angeles area, the worst the air quality would be rated was "unhealthy." Apparently Beijing's air quality was so bad that the US Embassy ran out of ways to describe it and temporarily said it was "crazy bad." As we said down in LA "I don't trust air I can't see!" http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=131440157
  15. That's most impressive! When I read about a fire waterfall, I was thinking more along the lines of a water feature that I saw in downtown Los Angeles where where it would randomly light up on fire. Pretty nice display, and rather surprising.
  16. Dennis gave the best advice. If you aren't 100% certain, don't do it!
  17. Good to see things are working out for you guys!
  18. Well, good luck with everything, and keep your spirits up!
  19. All I can say is good luck, and it looks like it's going to be a beautiful weekend for her to arrive! Certainly better than two weeks ago!
  20. That's seventy eight million, not seventy eight thousand!
