1. I have read that the difference to the western ear is that Mandarin sounds like singing and Cantonese sounds like a cat fight in progress... My SO speaks Mandarin and it sounds very musical to me. The Cantonese I have heard spoken is rough and gutteral, but the speakers are certainly enjoying themselves. -James
2. Congratulations Richard! Now I need to call DOS and see if GUZ has even entered our case yet... -James
3. Congratulations! May we borrow your luck now? -James
4. I see ambiguity on the 'approval date' recall order? Is this the NOA1 or NOA2 date? Does anybody have any info on this? The VJ postings DO NOT look good at all. -James
5. Dennis, I am glad that you have the conditional approval, be quick with the evidence and as complete as you can be. Nobody that knows your story can doubt you and Leiqin, just put it in their face and you will be just fine. -James
6. I'm sorry Ski, that is all I can say. I know that this has been hard on you. It is really a crying shame. -James
7. Hello, Yes, I have done the same. It is best that we don't give our loved ones any more suprises than they will get just by coming to america. -James 213632 Besides a mutual understanding of finances, my wife an step-daugher have seen pictures of the inside and outside of my domicile. I've also shown them the satelite view, so they see the distance between buildings and distance to shopping, how many homes have pools etc. They have also seen pictures of local scenery. 213647 lol, Mike you have taken it to a new level! I am now getting photos of the room addition we are doing for a master suite, and I will email those as the project progresses. Taking photos of the local parks and satellite views is a GREAT idea! I will also take photos of the school her daughter will attend, and the community college after that. They are both walking distance from our home. -James
8. Hello, Yes, I have done the same. It is best that we don't give our loved ones any more suprises than they will get just by coming to america. -James
9. Dennis, That is a VERY good article and really cuts to the heart of the matter! -James
10. New Day, you should mention your old ID when you bring this up so the new guys can read up on your story. -James
11. CONGRATULATIONS!! I know she will do great! -James
12. Hello, My step daughter will be truly my second daughter. She no longer has a father to turn to. She lost hers when she was about 9 or 10. I have accepted responsibility for her (she is 16) and I expect she will live with us much longer than my daughter since she appears to be definitely college bound. ANOTHER project for me now is to get the transfer research and credit certification arranged so it can be started as soon as the visa is granted. Since my SO is a property owner she will not just get on a plane when we get the visa, but take some time after quitting her job before coming here with her daughter. This is a very good topic, I hope to see a lot of insight. I was a trainee parent when my wife died, she did not believe the man should be involved in raising the Children. I have learned a lot over the last two years, but I still have a long way to go. -James
13. Congratulations on her arrival! If she would like non-Chinese seafood, take her to Jimmy's Fish in the Marketplace at 2nd/Westminster and PCH. -James
14. lol, No, that was Yentl! BUT Yenta (a jewish gossip or busybody) was also the matchmaker in that movie. Commonly used to mean 'matchmaker'. -James
15. MY SO has showers at her job. It is a benefit of that employment. This is very much part of all Asian cultures. Cleanliness is very important. I showered once a day last time I was there, but it was really cold weather. In August it will be 2 or more. -James
16. Loving Candle's daughter is out of school, but she was given a LOT of physics homework to do during the break! They cooked one special meal on May Day, and will do some shopping in Shenyang soon. -James
17. Congratulations! And, thanks for the report! -James
18. Congratulations again and thanks for the report. Every bit added to the shared knowledge really helps a lot. -James
19. Try it in mid-February, like I did. Yikes! At least there were no other tourists there. There was a reason for that. 210708 Lol, I forgot to mention all of the 'entreprenuers' in the parking lot at Badaling selling used coats for a PREMIUM price. I had only brought a sweater and I was cold all the time. My boss told me that I was taking my life in my hands by flying on a Chinese domestic airline, but the only two times I felt in danger were crossing the street on foot and riding that tram in Badaling up to the wall... -James
20. Congratulations! And thanks VERY much the interview report. I value every one of these. -James
21. Hi, The Badaling Great Wall is a good day trip from Beijing. The thing to watch out for is the elevation. Even if it is sunny and pleasant in Beijing (I was there last October for Golden Week) it will be cold and windy at the great wall. Take a coat and a sweater, dress in layers. -James
22. Congratulations! You have waited so long, you deserve a break! -James
