  1. My wife and I both eat at our dining room table. She watches whatever Chinese programs that she currently fancies on her iPhone 8+. She works in her vast garden from early morning until around 10am and them again from ~6pm to midnight wearing my mechanic's lamp strapped to her forehead. In between gardening she's usually cleaning inside the home. She has many cotton pajamas that she wears around the house 24/7 when she's at home. http://i65.tinypic.com/15g6umf.jpg

All the best to you, Randy. Are western medicines available to you in China?
  3. YaGi (sic?) aka Catherine asked me to edit some of her memoirs outside of CFL, several years ago. I don't know about you, Catherine, but I always felt your original, unpolished words held the deepest feelings for a reader. Hope you are doing well. I trust you have learned to speak 'southern' English by now.
  4. Gee... how could anyone improve on such a vivid and woeful tale?
  5. Reminds me of this... http://i68.tinypic.com/ipcx29.png
  6. Just curious if anyone knows how she's carrying on.
  7. Typical unabashed, probably formerly flat chested, woman now proudly strutting her new body for all to admire. I don't care for implants personally, but they do look nice on her. More than anything, her attitude is very sexy.
  8. Back when I was teach ESL at our local church, a common word that they always got wrong was WORLD. Always came out as WORD. I would teach them to say WERE OLD.
  9. If FTIR is a chemist, contact my friend Don Frye who was once active on this site, wife is Chinese and who is a research Chemist. He used to live in SoCal now living in Boston. He may have some leads for you. Tell him I suggested him to you. Here's his FB page: https://www.facebook.com/don3569
  10. I was watching local PBS last night re. the Exclusion Act. At I learned that at one time in the past, California's workforce was made up 25% Chinese. White workers were threatened by the hard-working and industrious Chinese. Lots of racisim in US history. Oregon prolaimed itself as a white's only state. Sadly, racism still seems to be inbred in many Americans.
  11. I would not be surprised to see Winston get picked up by a major studio like Netflix to do his weekly China episodes. His timing for finding this nitch was perfect. Can't help but like the guy too, which makes his vids even more easy to watch.
  12. Seems the CCP didn't take into account that comforting the souls of the dead also comforted the souls of the living.
  13. I would guess there'd have to be an attendent in every bathroom to ensure it's kept clean AND keeps the tissues stocked. I always carried my own when I traveled to China. Is that still a necessity, Randy?
  14. One of my early trips to China I was in Nanning during summertime. My Chinese was limited to "Ni Hao" and I desperately wanted some water. I was in town shopping with my lady's mother and her mother's friend, but couldn't convey to them how parched I was. I saw a McDonalds-like restuarant and went in alone and pointed at a sink faucet and motioned for a drink. I was served a small glass of steaming hot water. Still, I appreciated receiving that small glass of water and was proud of myself having been able to communicate what I wanted. Our Chinese friends today tell me that hot water disolves fat in our blood that we Americans eat (I've never been fed so much fat since being married to a Chinese wife). And, most Chinese where we live expect that I want to be served ice water. What I want is room temperature water. Yes, I know that traditions, folklore and customs are hard to break.
  15. What an awful cross to bear. She seems to be carrying it well though. But still, that's a tough one. I've known a few men with interesting Vietnam names like: Fung Ki Chao, Thong Ding Dang and one who goes by "DT" because his given Vietnam name is Dung To and he learned that introducing himself as Dung wasn't best.
  16. Ruby, We'd love to see some pics of your new family.
  17. Love these guys who need to throw a zillion words and ignorant illustrations to make a point that could have been done in 5 min instead of 15. I bought a GoPro knock-off for 1/3 the cost with all the features and HD picture quality. There, that takes about 7 seconds to say.
  18. On two occasions we removed women and their child from a filthy maternity home. Both the mother and father stayed in our home while the sick baby was cared for (several trips to a doctor) and healthy enough to travel home with the parents. As a side note; although most birth tourist came from China, they also came from Korea, Japan and Taiwan. We've had both a Japanese family and a Korean family stay with us during the 'sitting the month' period. The last straw that had me put my foot down and say no more baby business in our home was when we cared for a Chinese mother and her baby. The father was a Physics Fellow at Northridge University who I would pick up and drive to our home on weekends. The last drive to Northridge, taking the family back to their apartment, the windows had to be kept up so there was no draft on the baby and the AC off for the same reason. This was during August. The father kept passing gas that made the car smell like he shit his pants and made me want to puke. Wow, Dennis! That last drive to Northridge sounds like a journey to the gates of hell. All that was missing was him opening up a Durian and eating it on the way. I wasn't aware you had been so exposed to the maternity situation. Glad you finally put your foot down. Sounds like a recurring nightmare. OMG Mick, Durian would have been a welcomed relief. There's no exaggeration to the stench that man filled my car. It was a constant struggle between airing out the car or getting flack from ma ma for letting that newborn sufffer from all that fresh air.

  20. Birth tourism has almost completely dried up here in SoCal. However, maternity homes are still thriving due to the tradition of zuo yue zi or "sitting the month" for new Chinese mothers who are here legally. Living here in SoCal among Chinese and my wife having worked in many, many of those birthing homes over the past several years, she's seen the best and the worst. Although she has not worked outside the home for quite a while, she still keeps in contact with many women who have worked and still work in those homes. Stopping or slowing down birth tourism was probably a good thing. 14th amendment debate aside, many birthing homes were not up to health standards and where simply set up wherever and whenever someone's home could squeeze beds into various rooms all to cash in on birth tourism and all at the expense of unsuspecting pregnant women who were now trapped in sub-standard living condtions, condtions that those glossy ads back home never mentioned.

  22. Our company is contiually audited by various banks and govenment financial institutions and it always interests me that the majority of those auditors are young, single Asian women. Of course, I pretend not to notice lest I get caught gawking and end up on one of those #metoo lists. I doubt that you doubted for a moment that Angela wouldn't reach her goals. Congratulations to her. And, congratulations to you for being a good influence and role model.
  23. It would run good for a while and then idle very rough, cough, sputter, backfire. It's a 351c, if you recall with an Edelbrock 1406 4bbl and HEI distributor. I isolated it to the distributor and replaced the coil, wire harness, control module, condensor, cap, rotor... exchanged the carb for a rebuilt. Bottom line I need a pro shop to troubleshoot and fix, but there just ain't a lot of mechanics who want to work on someone's project car. Most mechanic make their money on computer diagnosis, RR newer cars. Hotrod shops all seem to be very busy... I suppose there's a lot of olde men like me with extra SS money to spend on a hotrod. Anyway, I finally found a man who worked on it at his shop in his spare time. He said he enjoyed working on it, was like a hobbie to him. Never asked for money, but I still ended up giving him two checks for $500 ea. The problem was (I think he said) there's a spring under the top distributor plate that was defective. He got the motor dailed in plus he fixed a lot of little things that were needed... rear shocks, replaced a stabilizer bar, fuel pump, fixed the door that wouldn't stay shut and wanted to toss me out on my fanny everytime I made a right turn. He fell in love with the car and didn't want to give her up... I don't plan on restoring her, just want a good runner that I can putt around in. Next will be looking for a shop to replace some cracked windows. My Chinese wife and her friends just don't get what's my facination with this olde, loud, noisy car. Yet, lots of round eyed ladies are always telling me how they like my car... go figger uh?
