  1. My wife and I got Pfizer booster shots this past Thursday. Just sore shoulders at the vaccination point, also like what occurred previously. My brother in Germany, and his wife, will receive booster shots this month. Where he lives, there is a higher rate of vaccination than for other areas in Germany. Those that are not vaccinated have come under more restrictions on their movements. The government is looking at legislation to mandate vaccinations for all, but it probably will not be passed and instituted this year. I suspect that there will be a significant flu outbreak this flu season, after a mild one last year. Since there is more interactions between people now, there will be more chances to spread it. Also it seems that fewer people are getting flu shots, probably partly due to all the worry over covid.

    Vaccination Blues

Received my second shot yesterday. I do have a sore shoulder, but it hurts much less than after the first one. My wife and I went for our usual three mile walk at 4 a.m. this morning and I will be going for a run in just a little while. Doesn't seem like there will be any fatigue or other effects at this point.

    Vaccination Blues

My wife had no problem with the 1st shot other than a sore shoulder.
  4. Trying to tamp down any spill over into Xinjiang probably is China's number one concern, but they also need to look after investments into Afghanistan's natural resources and other areas. Still, I don't think they would be stupid enough to ever send troops, no matter how bad the situation gets.
  5. I haven't been to the Chinatown area for quite a while. My wife still goes there to get some food items. That's somewhat limited now as well, since I have been getting fresh vegetables at an incredibly low price from an Hispanic market that is closer to where we live. I believe the shops, other than grocery stores, in Chinatown are slow right now. I think it will start picking up as June approaches. My stepdaughter works at the Great Wall Bookstore in Chinatown Plaza. Her work is steady but business is slow, though sales by mail are probably about the same. There were a number of new places being built, or that had just opened, a little bit before the pandemic started. I don't know how their fairing. I'm taking my wife over to get her first Pfizer shot in just a little while.
  6. The most recent from my brother in Germany: "The third corona wave is with us now. From April 6th, general practitioners are also allowed to vaccinate. However, too little vaccine is still available. I signed up for a vaccination with my family doctor yesterday. I will probably be vaccinated in 3 weeks. The Astrazenica vaccine has been discontinued due to side effects in people under 60 years of age. All over 60 year olds now receive the Astrazenica vaccination, as there would be no side effects in older people. But I will reject this vaccine like many others. I just want the Biontech vaccine. We get the news on TV that America has a lot of vaccinations. More than in Germany." His wife is Thai. She went back to Thailand in late February due to her mother being ill. She had to stay 14 days quarantined in a government run hotel. Fortunately she was able to be with her mother, when she passed away. Things have been picking up here in Las Vegas. They have opened up vaccinations to anyone 16 or older. It is still slow for tourism, although much better than the previous few months. It is expected that all restrictions will be removed from businesses at the start of June.

    Vaccination Blues

I take my wife in tomorrow morning to get the first shot of the Pfizer vaccine. She is a little reticent, but also wanted me to make sure that she could get the Pfizer vaccine instead of one of the others. My son got the second shot yesterday. He texted me this morning saying that it has really made him tired, along with feeling kind of achy. I'm going over a little later this morning to watch my five month old granddaughter while he tries to rest.
  8. I've seen a number of articles now about the efficacy of the Chinese vaccines. I find it interesting that Chinese officials are now looking at producing a vaccine similar to the Phizer and Moderna vaccines, after dissing those. They are finally admitting that they are not getting the results needed with what they have already made. It's also becoming absurd with their policy for entry into China, with getting a Chinese vaccine that is only around 55% effective. I probably won't be traveling back to China any time soon, or probably future long term. if they keep this up.

    Vaccination Blues

I received the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine yesterday. Sore shoulder from the shot was the only side effect. I got tired of waiting for J&J to get here again so went on line Tuesday to schedule an appointment. Took me 5 tries to get through the website to get the appointment scheduled. For some reason when I reached the last page some of the text questions did not appear so I couldn't hit the schedule button. Fifth try and everything worked fine. There were a lot of openings so it wasn't a problem to pick a date and time. I went ahead and scheduled my second appointment for 4/22, this morning. No website problems this time around.

A friend of mine and his wife, that lives in San Diego, both received the Moderna vaccine. He said that both of them had a hard reaction on the second shot, and that it took a while to get over it. They are both in their mid 70's. I am still delaying on the vaccine. I saw where J&J is supposed to ship 11 million doses next week. I am hoping that NV gets a significant portion so that I can possibly just go with the one shot. Regardless, I will look at getting an appointment for the first full week of April. Time to quit procrastinating and just get it done.
  11. Well, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the IRS did a direct deposit for our EIS. Guess filing my taxes early actually did help.
  12. I get the no information available message. I suspect it will be another d@$% debit card at some point.
  13. There was a online story this morning with the following quote: "A spokesperson for Current told CNBC Make It that the bank started receiving the third round of payments just before noon on Friday. The bank began crediting the payments to customers’ accounts right away, making the funds fully available, they said, and estimating that they have credited around 25% of Current’s eligible account holders already." Good news for everyone. Now I'm just hoping that mine comes as direct deposit this time instead of as a debit card!
  14. From the SCMP: https://www.scmp.com/news/asia/australasia/article/3125294/china-urges-australia-close-offshore-detention-centres China urges Australia to close offshore detention centres In a statement to the UN Human Rights Council, Beijing said it was ‘deeply concerned’ by conditions at ‘third country’ sites holding refugees and asylum seekers China itself has long faced accusations that it operates detention centres, with experts estimating it has detained more than a million people in Xinjiang
