1. 2 trips - one in Feb., one in July, none for interview (due to a lack of vacation time). We felt it was more important to maintain the relationship.
2. Assuming the adoption is complete with paperwork and she will come to the US wit Haixia, there should be no problem there, either. It might be helpful to have a statement for Haixia's sister-in-law ready just in case additional information is asked for. The general feeling about extra ("kitchen sink") evidence is that it should NOT be presented unless necessary as it may open the door for doubts or requests for additional information. I think the adoption papers would be submitted with the P3 - maybe someone will correct me. Welcome to Candle.
3. There are husbands and wifes who keep separate funds, and sometimes pay like that.
4. I think that it is normal for the American SO to worry - contact with the SO in China is limited to anywhere from one (or less) emails per day to 2 hours or more (telephone or IM). The rest of the time, you will hear stories from other people, often bad stories that are depressing, to say the least. These stories often indicate that there was no warning, no sign, no hint of what was to come, "It could happen to you"-type stories. The tendency in these stories is to look back to see what "red flags" were ignored by the American. It is very easy to see a "red flag" in a failed relationship - not so easy to say what is a red flag, and what is normal in a more normal (healthy) relationship. So, too often, we look for "guidelines" as to what is a "red flag", when what we should have done in the first place is to look for an SO that we can have 100% faith in.
5. An older Western name for Beijing is Peking. The term originated with French missionaries four hundred years ago, and corresponds to an older, now obsolete pronunciation predating a subsequent sound change in Mandarin from [k0µ3] to [t0¬1]. ([t0¬1] is represented in pinyin as j, as in Beijing.) I think that with the simplified Chinese, a lot of names took on a more local, standard pronunciation.
6. Peking Duck v. Beijing Duck, Can we settle this once and for all?
7. Can you obtain the ITIN as soon as you are married? Just wondering as I am going to Zhanjiang 1-20-06 to be married and would love to be able to file my 2006 tax return as married filing jointly (as she would have no reportable income). Can you also obtain an ITIN for step children and then claim them as dependants? Thanks for any help in this matter. 171836 If you are married on Dec. 31, you can file as married. The TIN is needed when you file. IRS TIN Application
8. Thanks for visiting - she was surprised that so many people knew her! I hear you're on your way back back - welcome her to the US for us. Thanks again.
9. Great! I hope it gets results. Larry - take your email address out of the post - there are 'bots that troll for addresses posted like that.
10. Perhaps I just like giving you a hard time? 171515 If you're going to give ME a hard time, you'll need to wait in line, along with everyone else!! 171519 LOL but really, Noa-2 on k-3 process is pretty cool. 171521 Yes - congratulations!!
11. No - something simple and quick. I'm sure Jiaying will feel better once we are actually married (I will, too). Hopefully, a Chinese friend can direct us to a Chinese justice-of-the peach, or something like that. How about you?
12. Yes, Paul. Smart. I have a few things to purchase after she gets here.
13. B-1 is business (not sponsored - that is H-1), B-2 is visitor's, either that or vice-versa.
14. Perhaps I just like giving you a hard time? 171515 If you're going to give ME a hard time, you'll need to wait in line, along with everyone else!!
15. From the front page, click on "My Controls", and "Edit signature" - oh never mind!!?!
16. Here you go, Jim. Found it! EXPEDITE NIV SECTION I found one under ref. ID "EXPEDITE IV SECTION" that was shipped on Nov. 17, with no weight given.
17. http://bergoiata.org/gif/Feu4.gif Congratulations !! http://tinypic.com/erfmns.gif http://tinypic.com/erfmns.gif http://tinypic.com/erfmns.gif http://tinypic.com/erfmns.gif http://tinypic.com/erfmns.gif http://tinypic.com/erfmns.gif
18. If the "Customs Delay" is actually a GUZ delay, they can refuse to accept any size package. I would say that the Nov 14 is the most likely, since it's at least 2 days after their stated date before they actually ship. There is another track-by-reference ID that's been reported - try that also (I don't remember what it is).
19. We only guesstimated. NVC says they sent it the Sept 23, we estimated that it was picked up by DHL the next business day. That package was delivered and the case entered before the following days packages were delivered. Follow 2 or 3 business days after the day NVC says they sent it. Go to the DHL site to the tracking page. Enter I-730 and the date. and it will give you the info you need on where it is. By the way, Jie just called me............we just got P3 today ! 171312 Hey! Congratulations!
20. NO!! No more issues! Seriously, welcome them to the US for us!
21. Any word from Tian9426? He was there Tuesday also. Did Jiaying know that you were the one who predicted her interview date?
22. Also, keep posting! (Maybe start a new topic once in a while) So we'll know what's going on, and if someone can't help, at least you'll feel like you're doing something. You deserve (and need) all the attention you can get!
23. Jim, Is it possible that she accepted the money from her relatives with the understanding that she WOULD definitely get married? That they may be upset that that promise was broken? If this is like an American father going after his daughter's suitor, all you need to do is duck and take cover. I'm not taking the other side - I think you deserve our sympathy and support.
24. ¶Ô²»Æð Are you typing pinyin, Dan? Jiaying will need character recognition (she's a holy terror with that - seems like 100%) so I'll have to get my graphics tablet working. She'll bring her Kingsoft translation software with her.
