1. Check out Acronyms in the Information/Tutorials forum. P1 and P2 are the same as NOA1 and NOA2 - the receipt for your application, and then the application is approved. P3 is sent to your SO (significant other) by the Guangzhou (GUZ)consulate as a packet of information and applications that she needs to return. P4 is the interview notification and final packet of forms that she will need to bring to the interview. Also check out some of the "pinned" topics and FAQ's in various forums that might be helpful. There is also some very helpful information on Visa Journey which is not specific to China. Good Luck! and Welcome to Candle!
2. How very sad! Hopefully they can right the wrong somehow. It's unbelievable that someone's slip of the pen can screw up your life so royally. Hang in there.
3. I think the consesus here is that you shouldn't - that the visa somewhere requires you to arrive in the US while still engaged. Of course, you CAN get married in China AFTER receiving the visa, but before leaving. But the warning is that this may cause problems at AOS time.
4. I think the bottom line here is that your son CAN accompany your SO to the US with the necessary paperwork and an interview, up to one year later. This is irrespective of your answer to 21A. GUZ will leave this door open. As long as your SO's paperwork is complete, she will be scheduled for an interview, and your son MAY attend, but doesn't have to if he is not going. If the GUZ asks for additional information, provide it. Otherwise, all you can do is to stock up on Cheetos. All DOS can do is relay what they see on their computers. Official notification of anything will come from the GUZ.
5. No , I called DOS and they gave me that information. I just paid for a pin number to call GUZ, so they open from 8 to 5, china time Saturday so I'll give them a call tonight. 205210 Remember that you're hearing from DOS, not GUZ (so far). The GUZ is more than happy (at least in my experience) to leave that matter open until the interview.
6. Our P3 entry into the computer was delayed because Jiaying left the question blank ("Who of these will come with you to the US?"), rather than specifying "None". They insisted on a new application with the "None" filled in. When the received it (signed for by EMS), it sat at the Swan Hotel for several weeks ("Ity takes time to sort and processed each letter"). This apparently, however, did not delay our interview date. I believe they put you in line based on when they receive the paperwork from NVC.
7. But vacations these days are typically at the convenience of the bean-counters - if you don't use it by Dec. 31, you lose it. So he could conceivably end up with unused vacation time that he has to hurry up and use if the interview turns out to be AFTER the 1st of the year. Hopefully, you'll have enough notice that this won't be a problem. But, yeah - more than a few of us have found ourselves with no vacation time at interview time. Don't feel bad if this happens. Good luck!
8. I'm a believer in the concept that if a bureaucrat has a stack of papers on his/her desk, they will we processed top to bottom, unless there is a very definite reason to skip one or more.
9. Is it with you? If I remember right, hers is an asylum-related AOS, so you may not be required. I have a couple of interview descriptions printed out, but they may not pertain to her case. I'll try to find them in the meantime. David and Zixuan's I think my other one came from VJ. Let me know if you need a copy.
10. The other option is to wait for the green card. The AP may not buy you a whole of time, and don't forget to be back for the interview, if one gets scheduled.
11. But aren't K1's authorized to work during the 90 day period that the visa is in effect? According to the SSA, the K1 itself provides this authorization and that is why they will issue an SSN to a K1 holder. Actually getting a job may be a different issue, since many employers wouldbe unwilling to hire someone with a 90 day time limit.
12. Talk to your co-workers - find out who or what the union represents, and what they think of it. Is it required for your position?
13. Get a Social Security number (even before you are married). I don't have my AOS links with me, but if someone hasn't posted them before tonight, I will.
14. http://bergoiata.org/gif/Feu4.gif Congratulations !! http://tinypic.com/erfmns.gif http://tinypic.com/erfmns.gif http://tinypic.com/erfmns.gif http://tinypic.com/erfmns.gif http://tinypic.com/erfmns.gif http://tinypic.com/erfmns.gif http://tinypic.com/erfmns.gif
15. I beat the system! Instead of losing an hour of sleep, I slept three hours longer today!
16. Anyone who is paid CASH does not pay taxes on that money (unless they are VERY honest). Anyone on a payroll gives a Social Security number (legal or not) to their employer, and pays withholding. If the number is not legit, they can not get a refund. Anyone who buys merchandise pays sales tax. This has nothing to do with their status with the INS. Just commenting on the tax issue, NOT on the illegal alien issue.
17. Yeah - April 1 is actually April 2 in China
18. I would think that a student visa is also a possibility. If she is accepted, I don't think you have a problem at all. Foreign students are considered desirable at most universities (cultural diversity). In Texas, they even get (last time I looked) a tuition break over out of state students.
19. Visas awarded on Thursday may be picked up on Saturday. Perhaps someone can fill you in on the times.
20. I believe the post office is open for visa pickup on Saturday, even though the consulate is not. Best of luck to you.
21. I wonder what happened to yours? You were right in line with Yanaln and I. I think by 4 days difference. Rick and Yanlan 203039 Mark ('timeline') based his predictions on the P4 date being based on the 'P3 received' date, and not the 'P3 entered' date. At least during the fall, the interview dates were filled in order, but beginning at the end of the month. That is, around the 15th or so of each month, they would begin assigning interview dates at the end of the next month. Then they would move backwards toward the first of the month. So, if one beneficiary got the last time assigned for the month, it would be early in the month. Someone with a day or two later P3 date would be assigned (a month later) a date late in the month after that. So 2 beneficiaries with P3 dates only a couple of days apart, might have nearly a 2 month difference in interview dates.
