Any interpretation is subject to revision by the DHS, regardless of how clear the wording may seem to us.

The intent of the law is to get criminal background checks of some kind into the hands of the Chinese SO, so I think the definition of "Marriage Broker" may be a little broadened when the DHS gets to it somewhat beyond what we have been thinking here. However, those who met their SO's prior to March 5, whether through a "Marriage Broker" or not, did not supply a criminal background history. You are blazing new territory, Ron. Let us know. I don't think we'll really know anything until some post-March 6 cases hit their interview. ANY case can be blue-slipped for a criminal background check.

I would expect that there is a means of conducting a background check to show you have no record. Some forms may be e-filed by filling them in and clicking on "submit", however, you may wish to mail everything in a single submission (assuming they mean the I-129F.

That is a standard, canned response that they, and was probably just completely thoughtless on the part of the person who told you that. Fax is another acceptable means of communication, which you may want to follow up eith the actual lettr from her. Good luck.

B2 for her parents.....

It costs $100 plus a trip to their local consulate. Follow Tine's list closely and Good Luck! -
except he had a MUCH prettier picture back then!

Yeah - get that cash drawer open. Hopefully, it'll have the visas also.

but most of all just sit back, wait, and buy a case of Cheetos. No one knows what happens behind the scenes, like Shaq says, it's great fun for some to speculate, but your P4 will come when it comes. It's perfectly normal to not hear ANYTHING in the meantime. You can drive yourself crazy worrying, so just keep posting. We can help in that area.

What type of visa is good...
Randy W replied to bearbear's topic in General Visa Discussion & First Steps
But we are talking about a vistor's visa here. Individual tourists are generally not allowed, unless they are coming to visit a close relative. Tine suggests the letter of invitation to be submitted with the visa application, like you say. -

Christer is a case where it was sent back to the US late last year and is still fighting. One of his (relatively) recent threads and a more recent update -
Thanks a million for your sacrifice Kenn...Me and the other "olde-timers" here will sure appreciate those checks every month when we're lying on the beach at Sanya and eating a platter of seafood every night... Everyone worries about SS, but I think it will be there in some form far into the future. It's too important a cornerstone of our American system to let it die. What party would want that around their necks? 221975[/snapback] and it's to much of a political football to take money out of the hands of those who have been expecting it (or at least paying into it) all their lives, and who see the older generations getting their share.

Read more carefully - but you ARE eligible to bring your parents over on a visitor's visa (some on this board have done it - Tine&Ella's list). In fact, I think Tine said you don't even have to wait for your greencard. -

I am under the impression that the only ones sent back to the US were the ones with actual evidence in them which could be corroborated with the applicant. I think there have been other cases that were simply blue-slipped, but I can't think of whose. -

and, no, I don't think Mohammad Atta's ex-girlfriend should be able to disrupt his life unless she had some valid evidence about terrorist activities -

Put me in charge of the consulate, and we'll both find out. I've said before, though, that I believe ANY blue slip issue should be brought to the attention of the applicant BEFORE the interview, so that they may bring overcome evidence with them. Blue slips are just another step in the process for the consulate, but potentially an EXTREME disruption to the applicant. To do this on the basis of a letter from a jealous ex is sick. -

I agree - I think this is nothing but sick on the part of both the ex, and the consulate. I think we should expect more discretion from the consulate than to respond in this way to a high school bullying tactic. -
I'm sure this thread will get a lot of reads! You have our attention!

If someone would like to help, perhaps they could monitor VJ and other sites. Other countries will most likely have post-March 6 applicants going through consular interview sooner than ours. The law is subject to interpretation, implementation, and challenge in the courts before we will know what it really means. The I-129F draft is only the beginning, and not really even that.
-
Anyone who has filed a 129-F since March 6 is affected - some petitions have already been recalled, others are on hold and will most likely be RFE'd once USCIS figures out what they're doing, and could face difficulties at interview time, if the Marriage Broker issue is not sorted out. The intent of this law is to get background information into the hands of the foreign SO. They are only now beginning to sort out the interpretation and implementation of this law. This process along (with its resulting confusion) will have a major impact on anyone who filed after March 6. Lani, and any other misleading information posted on these sites, is not covered by the law.

But, during the 4 years from 66 to 70, you could draw $1627x48 = $78,096 at the 8%, this would give you $520 every month, which would come very close to making up the difference. I've heard people who were close to retirement say that it's best to take the SS payments at your retirement age, but this doesn't consider a big age difference, although with a large age difference, your wife will most likely be around longer to receive the larger payments. So, yes, if you have something to cover the 4 years, you may wish to wait, but I would think twice before passing up the $78,096 in favor of larger payments later. Myself, I would prefer cash in hand NOW (over 66-70 years), to cash in THER bank.

That would be right about . . . well, very soon! Good luck!
