It was her husband who stayed in the building - she handled all the publicity work.

Assuming K-1, it's legal alien allowed to work. Otherwise, she will not be able to get one until her EAD (Employment Authorization).

It sounds like this I-864 would be withdrawn before it was ever accepted - that is, the AOS would be denied along with the I-864. If the AOS is denied, she would need to find another way to stay in the country.

Yes - get your Employment Authorization (EAD) card. Then your Social Security card. All of a sudden, you become a real person!

Although we were transferred from MSC to CSC, and now back to MSC. Our (K2) interview is on April 9.

My wife is a former SO.

Yes - I don't think that showing poverty conditions was the intent.

I think you can pretty much count on her company NOT filling out any American forms, or reporting anything to the IRS.

. . . Or cut and paste to Word or Notepad. California and Wagington both have driver's handbooks in Chinese. The Washington book is page-by-page identical with the English manual, so you can follow what she's reading. -
I saw it, too (on NBC). I think they're putting in a highway. The apartment is just sitting on a 20 or 30 ft. pedestal with no apparent way to get to it. They said their family has been there for 60 years.

One neg is buying property in China, a foreign citizen pays additional taxes for property. So if neither has Chinese citizenship you can still buy, but pay more taxes, correct? . . . or you can buy as a Chinese citizen, and then become an American citizen.

AOS/Biometrics appointment results
Randy W replied to mercator's topic in AOS & Immigration Challenges
Congratulations ! -
A word of warning, though. We went to ours 3 days early, and were turned away - told to come back at the time of the appointment. If you go other than to the appointed time and place, go late in the day, when they are more likely to be able to fit you in.

86 is the country code, not needed in China. 20 is the Guangzhou area code not needed in the city. You can use the rest but I have run into some that required the 1 and others that didn't so I am not sure what determines that. Can anyone help more? Of course you can try both ways to see which works. More often it was without the 1. I think they use 0 instead of 1, so it would be 0 20 12345678, Without the city code, it would be 12345678 (without the zero, I think).

The American Citizen's area (Windows 31 through 40) is open to citizens with an American passport at any time. Did you go to a separate area, or just to one of these windows? I had trouble finding my way in. At every point security tried to send me in the opposite direction. Finally inside, I was told to report to window 20 where a man gave me the "Immigrant Visa Comment" form and a number. Then I waited for three hours before they called my number to Window 27 where I talked to the VO for about 15 minutes. I had no trouble getting up to the fifth floor but once there you can go right or left. I was sent each way twice seeking "American Citizen's Hour" before finally asking, "is there anyone here who speaks English?" Then a different guard came over and asked what I wanted. I told him I had questions I wished to ask a Visa Officer. Then I was finally admitted into the correct room. BTW, when you enter the fifth floor, you want to go to the right. I have no idea what was behind the security on the left. Considering that the 5th floor is the portal through which all immigrants must pass to reach America, it is amazing to me how well hidden the Consulate is. There are almost no markings to identify its existence. If not for the photos someone else here posted of the outside, I would never have known it was there without asking around for help. Oh well, I guess it would be pretty silly to hope that paperwork would be the only way they would use to mess with our minds and try to intimidate us. The left is where your SO will go (windows 1 through 30) They have separate security gates for each side, but the hallway to the restrooms connects both sides.

Randy, if the SSA lady accepted my SO's application today, does that mean conclusively that CBP has relayed my SO's info correctly into the SAVE database? If my SO's info hasn't been input into SAVE, the SSA lady would have rejected her application today, correct? So we're in the clear now, just waiting 2 weeks for her SSN to arrive in the mail, correct? Or could SSA still send my SO a letter stating that her I-94 info hasn't been entered into SAVE yet? Thanks. I think it was izus' wife who applied, and then was later denied an SSN because the lady said that "B-1's" are not eligible (she misread "K-1" as "B-1"), but yeah, you should get it within 2 weeks.

I just came back from our local SSA office (3 minute walk from my home). I printed a lot of stuff in support of this but I didn't have to show it. The worker there was relatively efficient in what she was doing but also quite terse and not very friendly--still, she wasn't very rude either, just an un-smiling drone doing her work with relative efficiency. That said, our receipt letter still says "You can use your Social Security card for work only if you have authorization from the DHS." Is this just the normal scripted letter for everyone or will my SO's card actually have that written on it? As a K-1 who applied within the first 70 days, she should have the full fledge SSA card with no restrictions of any kind, correct? Thanks. No - the SS card is restricted, since she is not an LPR. Once she gets the green card, she can have the restriction removed. Yes - it will be stamped on the card of everyone who gets an SSN without a green card. The "restriction" is really meaningless, since it is not the SS card that provides work authorization - it is the EAD card, or the green card.
-
K-1's are work-authorized (for SS purposes). K-3's are not.

???? If you walked into an American hospital with that much tea in your veins, they would send you to the morgue.

Yes - marry a Chinese citizen. The purchase will be in her name.

Chinese! - looks like the script style of Chinese that my wife uses there's a debate on another site over what the character or language actually is.. no one could be conclusive... I'd say definitely Chinese because of the way the radicals are connected - and especially the box at the top. Where is the debate? My wife says traditional Chinese
