  1. My wife books her domestic China ticket from here in the US using her Chinese SIM card within her phone. Then, she uses her Chinese based credit card to buy the ticket. The wait from online purchase to ticket confirmation is fast, very fast (her words.) You must reply to the confirmation message to confirm and allow the use of your credit card. They will send this to your phone. Save the confirmation message they send you. If you cannot confirm the purchase will not take place. In fact, she bought 3 tickets from Ctrip for Xian to Nanning this summer of 2017. Nothing different about any seat on any plane she or I know of inside China. Pay more or pay less. Unlikely they will assign (allow) a foreigner an exit seat, anyway. She has, occasionally, received e-mails but doesn't use them. Neither of us has received a real ticket by e-mail for years. Only the confirmation number and flight details. The e-mail will have a ticket number on it. To pick up the ticket, she gives them the flight confirmation number and her name (or passport) at the check-in counter for the flight in question. She has done this for years. In the old days, before she had a separate Chinese Sim card or, on the rare chance she doesn't have any phone signal in China when she buys the ticket, she is unable to complete the purchase. Then she asks family for or friends for help with the purchase. She has used Ctrip or the Airlines' sites directly. Many, many times.
  2. Was the original question ever answered? Nothing has changed for us since the posts that were referred to earlier. My wife still has the same Chinese Samsung Note 4. It has capacity for two SIM chips (or whatever). She has a Chinese Bank based credit card. When she is here in the US she puts her Chinese SIM in, buys her airline ticket, or whatever, a few minutes later the SMS text with code appears. Ba Da Bing purchase made and paid for. Later she uses on-line banking to pay the credit card. Seems simple to me. But, I'm not the one doing it. She is in China now and expressed surprise that almost everything and everyone pays with cell phone. Her Bank explained it is safer. Most of her family members don't carry much cash anymore.
  3. Does your flight pass through Canada in either direction? If yes, Fly to or transit through a Canadian airport:You need to apply online for an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA). You can apply with a valid passport, a credit or a debit card, and an email address. If not. Never mind. website is here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/visas.asp
  4. Our experience over the last 12 years with WU is what Tsap said. Go to the market, fill out a form. No secret question required. Specify how much. Prove who you are (required a passport last time, some year ago). No need to specify a branch, nor will they ask for it. On the other end, also what Tsap said. Another option we used was Paypal. My account here in the US. Debit card in the recipient's hand. Withdraw up to $400 per day, a Paypal limit. Doesn't matter. Every Chinese bank and ATM have their own limits. Take out $x,xxxx rmb. Later, Paypal deducts a fee. $1.50 I recall and exchange rate doesn't come to mind. Call them, it's years since we did this.

  6. My wife prefers Dallas for easiest, and friendliest, POE. Detroit is on the bottom of our list. Recommend that your 'doesn't speak much English' friend carry a list of common questions and their answers. The friend can hand this over if need be. Some travelers have been known to ask other travelers on their flight for assistance and go through with them at the POE.
  7. A year, or more, ago my wife had a group of relatives hoping to visit the USA. The "new" Visa application on line tool had a section, at that time, for a 'group' interview. One letter, one group and one interview. The chances that they would pass: 50-50. They did not pass. Not a single one of them.
  8. I tried to look this up. Same luck as Randy, the page won't open. So I did an end around to find this- Airport HotelsIf sleeping in Beijing Airport does not appeal to you, there are many hotels near the airport: Hourly Hotel - Inside the terminal, there are "hourly lounges" which feature standard rooms with bathrooms. Rest room for honorable guest(010-64599533) here: http://www.sleepinginairports.net/asia/beijing.htm

  10. Only you know the stepson's situation. Here is a list of non-immigrant visa types. Select any type that suits his situation. https://fam.state.gov/FAM/09FAM/09FAM040201.html
  11. From Section 52.3 \ afm \ Adjudicator's Field Manual - Redacted Public Version \ Chapter 52 Reentry Permits. \ 52.3 Adjudication. (1) Approval and Period of Validity of Permit . If you approve the application, the permit should be made valid for two years, for multiple entries, unless otherwise restricted. However, the validity period of a reentry permit issued to a conditional resident must be restricted to the date of expiration of the conditional resident's status unless the applicant has filed a Form I-751 and it has been granted. You can use the Marriage Fraud Amendment System (MFAS) to verify the status of any Form I-751 filed.
  12. From: https://www.uscis.gov/green-card/green-card-processes-and-procedures/travel-documents Travel Documents-Form I-131, Application for Travel Document, is used to apply for three different types of travel documents: Advance Parole Refugee Travel Document Re-Entry Permit And, "Re-entry Permit A re-entry permit allows a permanent resident or conditional resident to apply for admission to the U.S. upon returning from abroad during the permit’s validity, without having to obtain a returning resident visa from a U.S. Embassy or consulate. Permanent or conditional residents should apply for a re-entry permit if they will be outside the United States for one year or more." If the stay outside the US is less than one year, the answer is straight forward: Can a U.S. lawful permanent resident leave multiple times and return I am a lawful permanent resident of the U.S., can I leave the U.S. multiple times and return? If you are a lawful permanent resident (green card holder), you may leave the U.S. multiple times and reenter, as long as you do not intend to stay outside the U.S. for 1 year or more. The key answer may be hidden in the question how long were you gone? https://help.cbp.gov/app/answers/detail/a_id/820/~/can-a-u.s.-lawful-permanent-resident-leave-multiple-times-and-return A couple of web-based attorney sites said the answer was yes, a re-entry permit is good throughout it's validity. Same as above, I could not find verifiable proof of that. Maybe an Info Pass appointment or phone call gets you a more reliable answer.

Yes, do recover quickly. And, while you have the TCM's attention, ask them about the gallbladder meridian as well as which foods to avoid ( deep fried, spicy, "hot," alcohol, beef, lamb and curry- so say some websites) and which foods to have more of.
  14. Well, it's not a government web site, just my wife, a US Citizen, using her recently issued 10 year, multiple entry, Chinese visa to enter China several times already in 2014, 2015 and 2016. As stated above, you'll get stamped when you enter and leave China. Good luck telling your wife, "that's nonsense" when she claims you have to send your US passport in to get stamped. By the way, send it to who? And with what documentation? I know, I know you'll get mop slapped.
  15. We were required, as a part of our Affordable Care Act Application(s), to apply for Medicaid. Apparently some States have their own Medicaid rules. In our case, the application was denied as "ineligible." Reason- "A household member does not meet Citizenship requirements."
  16. Yes For guidance click on any of the links on the bottom of this page labeled "Also tagged keyword B-2"
  17. Check with Healthcare.gov You will probably both qualify for 'out of season' enrollment due to your long distance move. She will qualify, regardless, as a recent Legal Immigrant. Depending on your income level you may be offered tax credits against the monthly insurance bill. Recommend you call them. It's painless. The tax credits have nothing to do with how much tax you paid. And, the Affordable Care Act does not allow existing condition exclusions.
  18. Results from today's fare search r/t Shanghai to Tampa for dates 04/25 to 09/25. All on American Airlines (AA), coincidentally: CTRIP $748 18 hrs flights Fareboom $749 30 hrs with 2 stops and an overnight in Chicago. They had other flights but none beat Ctrip. Orbitz $803 18 hrs Kayak $804 18 hrs AA $787 18 hrs Google $797 18 hrs Wife purchased from Ctrip. Great prices right now. Get up and go!
  19. A few months ago I contacted my nearest, in the USA, French Consulate about a Chinese Passport Holder with US Green card obtaining a western Europe visa. I was told, "you must apply at a consulate in the country that issued your passport." Further, you must apply to the consulate of the country of your first arrival. And then, concurrently with your application, you must purchase health insurance for the duration of your trip. Travel dates and health insurance validity dates are not flexible. The travelers used a local Chinese (means in China, before they left to come to USA) travel agent, obtained the visas and the health insurance without any interview. As stated, the UK is not part of the European multi-country visa program. The travelers did not obtain UK visas. If I were doing it, I would apply from and then leave from China.
  20. Is it a multiple entry visa? How many bags do you have to lug around? In Shanghai I would be tempted to put all my bags in the bag check room and take the mag-lev downtown. On second thought, no I wouldn't. I don't want to have the hassle of leaving the airport and then coming back in time go through security again. I'd stick with what Randy said. ditto in Kunming as far as checking the bags. Then roam out as far as you dare.
  21. Our IR-5 entered Sept 10th. Greencard and welcome letter dated Oct 13 with ELIS Fee pre-paid before arrival.
  22. After the IRS itself was hacked they stopped the Online Transcript Service. Here is what they still say: Get Transcript Alert:The online Get Transcript service is currently unavailable. You may still order transcripts using the Get Transcript by Mail service. We apologize for any inconvenience. You can get a transcript by mail to view your tax account transactions or line-by-line tax return information for a specific tax year. The method you used to file your return and whether you have a refund or balance due, affects your current year transcript availability. Note: If you need a copy of your return, you must use Form 4506, Request for Copy of Return. To use Get Transcript by Mail, you need your Social Security number (SSN) or your Individual Tax Identification Number (ITIN), date of birth, and address from your latest tax return. At: http://www.irs.gov/Individuals/Get-Transcript and then there is this from the Transcript FAQs: What if I’m unable to use Get Transcript by Mail? If you are unable to use Get Transcript by Mail, you may try our automated phone transcript service at 1-800-908-9946 to receive your transcript by mail. Please allow 5 to 10 calendar days for delivery. at: http://www.irs.gov/Individuals/Get-Transcript-FAQs I guess the part Carl said about never got them is covered by the IRS when they say "you may try...." You're probably reading too much into the Forms' Instructions if you try to decipher exactly how some data should be generated.
  23. The traveler arrived in the US Aug 2012, admitted as a Lawful Permanent Resident (LPR) and then the LPR departed the US with a 10 year Green Card (GC) Oct 2012 without a re-entry permit. Upon re-entry attempt Sept 2015 at POE the 1st Immigration Officer pulled the GC and sent the traveler for secondary Inspection. This process ultimately took over 3 hours. This was due mostly to a lot of people already in the room. A long and difficult Interview ended with the issuance of an I-193 'Application for Waiver of Passport AND/OR Visa' issued under Section 211(b), a Fee of $585 and the return of the Green Card. The Passport now has an I-193 stamp with 3 years notation. This POE secondary Interview required 'proving' that the long time away outside the US was unavoidable, unplanned and outside the traveler's control. It also required the $585 fee. Cheaper than multiple re-entry permits and multiple round trip flights. However, this re-entry method includes two big risks- 1. Immigration denies re-entry. 2. Immigration initiates removal proceedings. And, it was easier than a full SB-1 application process. From the SB-1 page- "If you are an LPR unable to return to the United States within the travel validity period of the green card (1 year) or the validity of the Re-entry Permit (2 years), you may be eligible and can apply at the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate for a Returning Resident (SB-1) immigrant visa. An SB-1 applicant is required to establish eligibility for an immigrant visa and have a medical examination. Therefore, this involves paying both visa processing fees and medical fees."
  24. or, follow along at: http://www.milevalue.com/guide-book-united-flights-hawaii-singapore-krisflyer-miles/?nabe=5869811131219968:0#comment-1357085 To see hints such as this- "Use Singapore miles instead of United miles to book economy and First Class awards to Hawaii on United flights. You’ll pay fewer miles, lower fees, and be able to book the exact same seats. Plus Singapore miles are so easy to get as a transfer partner of pretty much everyone." The gist of it is that certain award points earned on United credit cards are transferrable to Singapore Airlines. Such as- Citi ThankYou® Premier Card: 50,000 bonus ThankYou Points after $3,000 in purchases made with your card in the first 3 months the account is open. The card also earns 3x points on travel and gas
