  1. Here is one I just learned about this morning, this site leverages a trick called "hidden city" ticket shopping (where you stop at connecting cities, not the final destination), the only way I would do this would be if traveling with no checked baggage. In the past when asked by members about ticket pricing for an immigrant such as a K-1 from time to time it comes up buy a Round Trip or One Way, and sometimes a RT ticket is cheaper than a one way, so buy the RT and simply don't use the return trip, Skip Lagged takes this further, sometimes the airline sells a ticket that connects on to a further destination than the one you intend to go to, for example you intend on traveling to Chicago or Atlanta, but there are cheaper flights to a place that connects through Chicago or Atlanta, the Idea is take the cheaper flight and simply not make the connection and get off at the connecting airport (Hub Airport) A couple airlines have attempted to sue Skiplagged over this however one court has tossed this. https://skiplagged.com/ http://money.cnn.com/2015/05/01/investing/united-airlines-lawsuit-skiplagged/index.html
  2. Hi. Happi News Years to you all!! I am looking for a flight (one-way) between Xian and Nanning. Normally I use Cheapoair but for some reason access to that site is denied when I am Xian. So I am looking at flights on Ctrip. A few years ago I have used that site for internal Chinese flight and also for flights within Asia. The site is in English and is easy enough to get around but I have some questions. Why are there different prices for the same flight? (economy class, discount deal, priority deal, special deal, etc..),The dollar amounts is very small but there are no explanation what one get for those few extra dollars. The other question that I have is It says that a ticket is issued with 2 or 3 hours after payment is made. Where do I get the ticket? Do I have to go a special counter at the airport, or to a travel agency or can I just show up at the airport and get a ticket when I check in for my flight (this is the way I normally do it with Cheapoair). Any ideas? Thanks. Danb
  3. in the Global Times Hainan Airlines eyes western US http://www.globaltimes.cn/Portals/0/attachment/2017/2017-03-23/b63cbc7a-1d03-406f-88a0-f5d91a2682bb.jpeg
  4. Just saw this article. Don't know if it really helps or not. For China it says 90 days in advance yields cheapest flight. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/the-cheapest-day-to-buy-an-international-plane-ticket-mapped-by-destination_us_5914a276e4b066b4217251a4 My most recent purchase of a ticket was about 30 days out and it was $492 round trip to Chongqing from Las Vegas. Wife gets back tomorrow.
  5. Hainan Airlines has inaugurated it's round trip service from Beijing to Las Vegas. Everyone who makes money off tourists here is drooling over more Chinese visiting the city. Hopefully it will make trips to China cheaper and easier for my wife and I. http://www.reviewjournal.com/business/tourism/inaugural-hainan-airlines-flight-beijing-las-vegas-underway
  6. I found this new travel site and they are very reasonable. Fareboom. You may wish to check them out for your next travel plans both domestic and International. http://www.fareboom.com/
  7. Hi!! I am looking for tickets for my annual trip to Nanning at Xmas. Boy the prices!! They seem high. I want to go from Hartford,Ct. or JFK to Nanning (or Shanghai) from Dec 18 to say Jan 18. I am finding prices for economy class from 1800 to 2300 dollars. The lower prices are if I drive down to JFK instead of leaving from Hartford and/or if I fly into Shanghai( and then have to find domestic transportation to Nanning). Do you thing the prices will drop before say mid November? Not sure if I should lock in a price now. I found one cheaper flight. That is with Aeroflot. $950 from JFK to Shanghai going thru Moscow. Has anyone flow with Aeroflot? Has anyone flown thru Russia? For some reason I am very hesitant flying thru Russia or the Middle East. Is that silly of me? What do you all think or suggest? Thanks. Danb This summer I made an special trip to Nanning. I was able to get a much better price going to Shanghai and getting a separate domestic flight to Nanning. This time that trick is not working. I have tried to vary my days of travel by a few days and that is not working. do you think that I would be able to get a better price thru a travel agent?
  8. Time had an article on ways to get a lower price, the secret has to do with where (What Country) you appear to be buying the ticket from. I learned this one first hand this past summer, my wife had me buy a RT ticket for her sister to go to Shanghai to meet and accompany Mum back to Guilin. I booked her a ticket on China Eastern for around $400, my wife said her sister could get it for $200 in Guilin, I got a refund, and she booked it there. Anyway here is Time Mag post. http://time.com/3626031/fake-location-cheaper-plane-tickets/
  9. Hi everyone, So someone I went to school with has married a nice Chinese lady. He was separated from her for over one year while he was living in USA. He told me that he was given free trips to China given by credit card companies that he signed up for and cancelled (for example, the Delta Miles credit card. He told me that When he signed up and spent $5000, he would get enough miles for a free plane trip to China. After getting the ticket, he would cancel the card. Is this legit? Is it possible? Would your name be put on some blacklist for these credit companies? Thanks, Texan in Jiangsu
  10. My wife has her passport and visa in hand. We are getting ready for our move to America, but we need to settle a few disagreements first. 1. My wife already received her first round of vaccinations, but still hasn't gone back for her final vaccination shot. Some Chinese wives she has spoken to in some QQ groups say that the second vaccine is unnecessary. I say better safe than sorry. Does she need this final vaccine before leaving China, or can she get it in America. 2. Also, we are looking for the cheapest possible flight back to NY for this summer. All of the cheapest flights have overnight layovers in Tokyo. My wife thinks that she is not allowed in Japan and will get sent back to China. I disagree. Can we buy this ticket with nothing to worry about?
  11. Here is an article from Cheap Air. Com on when you could buy a ticket and get the lowest price avaiable. http://www.cheapair.com/blog/travel-tips/when-should-you-buy-your-airline-ticket-heres-what-our-data-has-to-say/?uid=364
  12. My wife is spooked that her mom is close to the end & dad told her he is lonely, so she's heading back to China at the end of June for a visit. Airfare Kalispell to Nanning around $2500+/-... ...but what troubled me were the lay-overs with some flights being 40+hours. Would I be better off booking her to Beijing, Shanghai, or Guangzhou and have the wife catch a flight from there rather than do the layovers? Suggestions of best prices, also appreciated. TIA
  13. Hello Everyone. I thought I knew how to get a pretty good price for a round trip ticket from New England to Nanning. It is not looking so good this year. I would like to visit Nanning for Christmas. I read how Thomas 2009 got a good price for travel to China in October. I was hoping to find similar prices. So far not even close. I have been checking for prices for about a month and the prices are very high. I have played around with flying out of NYC instead of Hartford. That will save me a little money. I have looked at flights going to Beijing, Guangzhou , Shanghai, and Hong Kong. But then I am faced with getting from the Chinese entry city to Nanning. The prices for the whole trip are a bit too high. About $2000 or over. Have the prices of ticket gone up that much? In the past I have receive help from Paciasia out of Florida, but it seem to be out of business now. Any suggestions? DannyB
  14. Hi all, Over the October 1st Chinese National Week my lady and I will hopefully be making a visit back to my home in Milwaukee. It will be my first time back since June 2010. In the past, whenever I bought plane tickets, I usually searched on www.flychina.com, www.uschinatrip.com, and elong.net. Does anybody have any good websites or other suggestions for where you've been finding cheap plane tickets over the last few months? I'd ideally like to fly directly back to Milwaukee (most likely via Chicago), but if a good option with Chicago as a final destination were to present itself, I'd be open to that as well. My lady and I will be visiting friends in Vienna and Stockholm in late July. Already have plane tickets booked for that, and just this afternoon she received her Schengen visa. Now it's time to start thinking about plane tickets and a U.S. travel visa for the fall - I'm getting a headache just thinking about it. Thanks all! Dan~
  15. Bob (Okie2) sent me this. Who knows others may find deals there. http://www.airtkt.com/ tulsa to hong kong 5 month stay R/T jan 15th to june17th on United air lines just $1077.00
  16. The last few week's I have been trolling the Internet looking at air fares to China so my wife can go visit and they have been around $1300+ no matter what month, duration, airline or web site etc. On one of my surfing sessions I came across a website called Skyscanner.com and I played around with it a bit looking at different dates etc. This site eventually found me a deal thru Farestore.com for JFK-HKG-GUZ leaving Dec 27th and returning Jan 17th for $1136.00. Also around the end of December ANA is offering deals as low as $806 JFK-Tokoyo-GUZ. The only thing with this is that there is 20 hour lay over in Tokyo on the way there. Hope this helps anyone looking to go to China.
  17. I am curious as I have never used them before and also have never flown Asiana Airlines before but they have some great prices for the end of this month. 1187 RT from MSP to Guilin Thanks in advance for any advice Paul
  18. Hey friends, Ling and I are planning our trip back to China in October. The best price we've found is through CheapOAir for $966 per round trip ticket, departing JFK, layover in Seoul for 4 1/2 hours, then arriving in Guangzhou. We considered flying into HK then taking a bus to Guangzhou, but I can't seem to get a good price. Anyone know or have any connections to get cheap tickets?
  19. UAL is increasing International baggge fees from $70 to $100. They have now double the price in just 2 years. So this will mean $100 x 2 for round trip. Service of course will not improve nor reduce the number of lost bags. This is pure greed by the airlines. http://www.foxnews.com/travel/2012/06/12/united-airlines-raises-bag-fees-to-100/
  20. Hello. We are now in Nanning. We flew on Hainan Airlines. It was a nice flight. I could use some help. I can't get my laptop or my smartphone(wifi mode) to connect to the internet at Lao po's home. She has a d link wireless router and also has a TP-Link hooked into the d link for her I PIE. (which seems redundant). Her ipad works but my gear does not. Any ideas of what i can try or get some info? It is a little difficult talking technical stuff to my Lao Po so that avenue is not working so well. I kinda think that the d link hard connection may not be working but the wireless connection is sort but there maybe some type of conflict/setup because the smart phone says that we are connected but when i go run a application ( google translate) I get a connection problem message. My gear worked in Beijing. But not here. Any help would be appreciated. Danb
  21. We maybe taking a trip to china next month the wife will be selling her condo. I've already done a little bit of checking and so far the cheapest I found is to drive to drive from Phoenix to LA and pay to park the car for 3 weeks. Then fly from LA to shanghai for 920 dollars each person. Anybody with any other ideas are ultimate goal is to get to Nanchang. We're willing to fly into any city in china and then connect toNanchang from there. Our travel dates are kinda flexible Leaving for china after the 25th of may and coming back mid june staying about 3 weeks. If anyone can help it would be appreciated.
  22. Is it just me? Or has the airlines just gone crazy with there pricing? We Where! planing to fly Chongqing late in june. Last month for tickets for around 1200-1300 for this time frame. Now that continental/United are one i now find the same tickets have gone up over a 1000$ It also seam as all the other airline are following suit. 23. Hi All, We are looking at getting a ticket for my stepson to fly back to China for the summer. We have found a good ticket price but he will fly through Dubai and return the same way. Does anyone know if he needs any type of visa for this. He is 19 years old, has a Chinese passport and 2 year green card. The travel agency is telling us no but I wanted to see if anyone here has any experience with this. Thanks,
  24. Is it 1 month, 2 month, 3 months before scheduled departure date? What is your experience? Thanks Paul
