  1. I'm not sure why this is news all of a sudden, but I'm seeing it in multiple places, so here you are! Travel Document

Hello, Everyone! It's been a long time. Has anyone had to apply for a travel document to enter China from the US? I was under the impression that once one had a US passport all one had to do is apply for a visa. That is not the case for my Chinese-born son. The same applies to children born in the US if at least one parent is Chinese and has not established residence. It's an effort to prevent dual citizenship. In the above case, the child is considered a Chinese citizen and therefore cannot be issued a visa. The child cannot be issued a Chinese passport because he has a US passport. The travel document gets around the dilemma. The problem is that the family has to apply in person at the visa center, in our case, Washington, DC. In order to schedule an interview, an appointment has to be made online. It's all in Chinese. My wife has made three attempts, each time resulting in a three-day timeout. She's getting frustrated. Is there anyone who has gone through the process who could describe it is such detail that I could use Google translate to get through it? Thanks in advance.
  3. Hello All, hope everyone is well. As the topic states I have a question about passport renewal. I sent it in about 2 weeks ago and already have my New passport in my posession. My question is I was expecting them to update the old passport with the new Exp date listed in it but they sent a whole new passport. This normal? Will I ever need to show dates of travel that were listed in the old passport? DO I request the old one be returned also? Let me know what you know... Robert
  4. Maybe not the right place for this question bur what the hell I'm a Rebel! Going to get a nice shiney 10 year visa in a few weeks and I see I got 15 months left on this passport. If I get the visa 1st will they limit it to the exp date on my passport or can I renew it after and still have the 10 year? Also anyone know how long to get a renew? Robert
  5. Hi all I'm not sure if this is the right category to post in but here goes: My wife is here with me in the States, she has her green card, and she plans to take a trip back to China in November. We were married on March 9, 2015, so I know there is one more step which we need to complete within the 90 day window before our 2 year anniversary. My questions are related to that final step we need to complete and how her status in the US will affect her ability to return if she goes to China. Separately (and I'm not sure if anyone will have knowledge of this) she wants to take our daughter with her to visit China. Our daughter was born in China but we got her an American passport and China gave her an exit permit, so now she is living with us in America as an American citizen. My questions around that are about which type of visitor visa to get her since she was born in China and has one Chinese parent but now lives in the US. The only info I can find on the consulate website is about children with one Chinese parent who were born in the US, not China like our daughter was. Questions- *Will my wife be able to return even though we haven't finished her immigration process? (still need the last step completed within 90 days of second anniversary) *Can someone please help me understand what that last step is? *Does anyone know if there are special things to consider in regards to getting my daughter a visitor visa to China as she has one Chinese parent, was born in China, but now is an American citizen living in the US? Thank you very much
  6. More great news for foreigners hoping to plan their careers in China. MORE: https://www.thatsmags.com/china/post/18120/china-launching-a-5-year-work-permit-for-foreigners
  7. Hi All, I have applied for a 10 year visa and included an invitation letter also. The visa service (visaexpress) called and they are asking for a Itinerary....... We indicated we would travel there in October but in reality we will wait until next year so I am not sure what to send them. The airlines/travel agencies do not provide an Itinerary until the flight is booked. Can anyone who has gone through this tell me how to get an itinerary that they will accept without actually buying tickets. Thanks in advance for the help.
  8. Hi, Wife thought I should check to see if I need to send in my passport (with 10 year visa stamp) and have it stamped for a trip coming up in July? Is this required or does the 10 year visa allow for entry into China at any time without a stamp for that specific trip? Thanks!
  9. I was wondering if anybody has any experience on getting a longer visitor visa for China. I have a 10 year Chinese visitors visa now but can only stay 60 days at a time. In order to get a drivers license I'm being told I need at least a 3 month visa. I don't see myself staying 3 months at a time but really would like to be able to drive while am there on my visits with my wife. She has a car but has only been driving few years and she scares the living daylights out of me the way she drives and on longer road trips it would be nice to switch drivers.
  10. Just announced, can visit Shanghai for up to 6 days without a visa, now this is huge, now could visit a friend for nearly a week in Shanghai and two other provinces without a visa. Starting January 30, travelers entering the country from Shanghais two airports, Hangzhou's Xiaoshan International Airport and Nanjing's Lukou International Airport will be able to stay in those cities and provinces for up to six days without a visa. They'll also be able to exit the country from any of those four airports. http://www.thatsmags.com/shanghai/post/12192/six-day-visa-free-travel-coming-to-china-next-week
  11. After talking to a visa company they told me I was pretty much on my own getting the first visa for Li Hong to go to China. he wasn't 100% sure of the proses but thought she may have to go to the embassy in Chicago and Renounce her citizenship to China. I am looking at expediting her passport $$$ but am wondering if China would still hold things up so she can't make it to China for the New Year. Lucky it come late this year! Please help with your process and time line. Thanks! Bill & Li Hong
  12. Hey everyone, The wife and I are planing to fly back to China for the entire month of May. We were looking at flights from JFK to Hong Kong, stay in HK for a few days before going by bus to the Mainland where we'll be spending most of the trip, then leaving from HK to come back to the States. My question is which visa to apply for? The embassy website shows, of course, the L visa, but the Q1 visa shows as an option for foreigners who have family in China who are Chinese citizens (parents-in-law included in the qualifying list). I was wondering if any of you have chosen one Q1, or am I mistaken that we qualify for that visa? Also, I'm wondering about flying into HK with our outbound date 30 days later? Will that be a problem for my wife? The reason we're flying into HK is so that we can do a few days of touring around. I know they put restrictions on Mainlanders. When I flew over for her interview, we both flew out from HK, but it was no problem because we weren't staying and had an outbound flight ticket in hand. Thanks for your help, as always! Tom and Ling
  13. Well as the title says. We just received a email from NVC (4:18am) for an interview date of 03-02-2015. Yes a bit tight!!! 3 weeks? Now there might be some small issues (For me) Two weeks ago i sent in my passport for renewal with standard processing 4-6 weeks. as we can see the time frame will not work. Plus i will need to get new visa added to passport. The visa is easy and fast and just cost some extra $$. I will be calling on Monday to see if i can get this passport rushed through. If worst come to shove we may have to ask for new interview date. Does anyone know how to go about this?
  14. Hey! The wife and I are flying back to China in March, staying till early April. RT tickets at $791 each out of JFK. My passport expires mid-May 2015, our return flight will be April 4. My 2 year visa has expired and I'll be getting another within the next month or so. My question is, with my passport expiring about a month after our return to the USA, and with getting a new visa, will this be a problem? I thought I heard some time ago that you had to have a certain amount of time left on your passport for traveling, like 6 months at least from your departure back to the states. We're prepared to buy the tickets, but if I have to get a new passport, I'll have to wait to buy the tickets because the passport number will change, etc. Any ideas, guys? Thank so much! Tom I'm thinking I should probably just renew my passport, then get the 10 yr visa.
  15. Hello everyone, long time lurker; first time caller. The wife (Chinese citizen/ US LPR) and I (US Citizen) are preparing to make the move to Shanghai and are painfully un-prepared for what we are finding as it relates to visa requirements for me. Starting to wade through it all and looking for some sage advice, I figured this might be a good place. I have a current M visa valid through 2016 (60 day stays) obviously not ideal. I own my business and have clients in China. My guess is to apply for the Q1? (looks for nod of approval) I welcome any advice, comments, words of encouragement, good jokes...

  17. Started this journey in July of 2008, Married my Chinese wife in Aug of 2010 in the USA she now has her 10 year green card.... Now we want to get married in China What documents will I need to marry in China? besides my passport, and our USA Marriage license I know she will need her China residence documents and possible her divorce document .... since we are already married, will we need to go to Guangzhou for the "Marriageability Affidavit" seems like all the info is for the first marriage in China any help or info will be appreciated....thanks
  18. Has anyone applied for and received a Q2 visa without needing an invitation letter from someone in China (i.e. your marriage certificate was sufficient even though your spouse has a Green Card). Experience with the Consulate in San Francisco is preferred since that's the jurisdiction I live in but any experience is helpful. Thanks in advance.
  19. Well it's time to renew my visa to China. I always use Oasis China Visa for my visa's Though there web site has changed and now you can fill out the Q1 form (Visa application form) online. (You can also download the PDF version of the Q1 if you like) Most of the instructions are straight forward but there is one requirement that has me puzzled. For me this is not a problem for as we all know my wife is here in the states for 8 years now. (Note highlight in red above) The problem i see is for my friend ( His wife is still in China) and getting a notarized copy of her passport would be almost impossible seeing she has it in China. The copy of his marriage certificate is no problem. Any ideas how to overcome this issue?
  20. Beijing set to welcome visa-free visitors . . . and includes visitors from the U.S.
  21. My wife is a Chinese citizen and I am an America. When I retire, we are thinking of moving to China or live part time. I have read that it is very hard to get a long term visa. My current tourist visa allows stays of 60 days. What if I want to stay longer? Is it possible just to go to Hong Kong and then have another 60 days? If so, can I keep doing this? Thanks for all your help.
  22. My residence permit expires on July 31st. I want to work at a great summer time job in Beijing until the middle of August. Would it be possible for me to obtain a tourist visa while I am in Beijing?
  23. I'm planning on going to Nanning in April the only problem I have is my Chinese Visa will expire on April 26th. I plan on beeing in Nanning on the 18th. Will I have any problem renewing my visa in Nanning? Also what documents will I need? Any help would be appreaciated.
  24. Hi all, this is my first post. The site was recommended when I had some questions, so I hope you can help me. I'm Alex, an American. Vivienne is my wife, she is Chinese. We want to move to the US in August/September of this year. We're hoping to get a CR-1 visa for her. Our situation is really complicated, so I will do my best to explain it... I moved to Beijing on an F visa in February of 2012. In June of 2012, I moved to Hong Kong on a work permit. Since September, I have lived in Xiamen, first on a long-term F visa (I was at Xiamen University) and now on one of those you-must-leave-the-country-every-30-days business travel visa (Vivienne owns a small market research firm in HK, and sponsored me for this visa) Our combined income should be sufficient to fill out the I-864, but only for 2013, so I'm asking my parents to fill one out as well, which brings me to my first question, 1) If I fill out an I-864, does that make my parents "the only joint sponsor" or the "first / second of two joint sponsors"? 2) Am I eligible to apply through the Guangzhou consulate? I have lived in Greater China for two years now. I have a Chinese and Hong Kong bank account, and together with Vivienne I rent an apartment here (though the lease is in her name). 3) If I'm not eligible because of my F visa, I have an opportunity to apply for a Q1 visa here while Vivienne and I head to her hometown for Spring Festival. Once I'm on a Q1, could I apply right away for the CR-1, or would I have wait until I've been here for six months? Of course, I'd much rather be on a Z visa, but it's hard to find work when you won't be around for a year. I think that's it.. Please let me know if you have any advice. Sincerely, Alexander & Vivienne
