Hello, After almost two years of waiting my wife finally got her VISA and boarded on 6/30. Thanks God!!! The issue is that my wife has not yet received the green card and SSN. The social security officer told us that it is not necessary to apply for SSN for my wife's VISA (I-130) but one should come with the green card. However, we have not yet received anything until now. Even worse, my wife can't take the driving test in DMV without SSN. Any idea how long does it take for both green card and SSN to come? What else can I do beside waiting? Regards, Leo

Hello GUZ; My USC petition for my step son ( 13 years old ) just got approved . My wife is in China now , It would be most convenient for her to prepare any notarized documents while she is there . Can you tell us what are going to be needed for minor child from China ? Thanks.

My CR-1 visa has been approved (Woohoo!) My husband (the US citizen) and I have started seeking employment in the US. As he currently has a full-time position in China, we think the best way is: I find a job in the US, then he quit his job in China and come join me. This way, at least one of us would have an income at any given moment. Then it raised a few questions: 1. I read that the US spouse should be present or already in the US when the immigrant is going through POE. Is that a must? 2. If my husband must come with me to the POE, can he return to China right after and continue to work in China for a couple of months while I'm in the US? 3. The most ideal scenario is I get a job offer now (though online applications and interviews), then we go to the US together. But since I haven't gone though POE yet and I don't have a Green Card or a Social Security Number, would US employers consider my job application and make offers? Thanks, guys! Love to hear your advice.

hi, i am trying to submit my wife's I-751 to remove the conditional status, but i received back the application stating that she needs a copy of her I-551 card. We never received it and honestly i forgot that we needed to follow up with immigration if we did not receive it within a certain amount of time. The sheet that was given to us stated that the stamp in her visa book was good until we receive the temporary. How long will it take for me to get this card? Do we have to have it? Can i file for an extension to file the i-751? Thank you in advance for your help.

Couple questions before the interview
chickadee posted a topic in Consulate Process: P-3 ~ Interview
Good day, My interview day is coming up soon and there are couple things i am not sure about, so please tell me if i understood everything correctly: 1) Security regulations says that its not allowed to bring your mobile phone with you, but if my memory is fine, i remember that at the entrance of the Consulate there are some lockers where i could leave my phone and bag, can anyone confirm if i am right? 2) if i understood correctly, i do not have to pay anything at the Consulate on the day of the interview, but later, when the visa is in the pasport( but i am not yet at the USA) i must pay the USCIS immigrant fee, is that correct? Thank you for your help, Natalia -
Thank you folks for all the info and supports!!! My wife finally received her VISA last week. In her passport, there are two VISA stickers, one is CR1 which was stamped with "Cancelled Without Prejudice", another is IR1 which is valid. My question is that is it the time to order green card now? I remember I have seen that the green card could be ordered and issued before entering the US. How could we do this? Thank you!!!

Good morning, everyone! As we are checking our papers for our interview next week, we realized that we put my parents' address for my husband's (beneficiary) permanent US address. Since then we have rented a place in their town and so we put that address on our DS-260 paperwork. I know I saw a link on the gov website about what to do before but now I can't find it. Can anyone help us out? Do we just address the discrepancy at our interview and submit paperwork then or should we do it online? Thank you!

I noticed that on my Immigrant Document Summary, the Final address in the U.S. contains old address instead of the updated/new address. We had the DS-260 updated with the new address but somehow this change is not reflected on Immigrant Document Summary sheet. Did anyone had the similar situation? How can we correct this? I have read in forums that we should update this at the POE. For some it worked and for some it still turned out that GC and SSN were sent to the wrong addresses. Are there any other ways which can confirm that GC and SSN would be sent to the correct/new/updated address?

How long is it taking for others to receive their welcome letter and green card after entering the US? My wife entered on October 2 through ORD and we have not received anything in the mail yet. I did pay the $165 immigration fee the day before we entered. Is there anyplace I can track it online? I found https://egov.uscis.gov/casestatus/landing.do but think I need a receipt number that comes in the welcome letter to use it.

Bingning, my wife's son, arrived September 18th to US on IR2. He is 19 years old.He should be automatic for green card. We have yet to see his green card or the welcome letter. Is this normal lately? Should I be calling to see where his card is at?

First I want to say thank you for all the information throughout our process of getting my wife to the USA. She arrived 9/2/15. It has been great so far. Now, we must file the for I-751 to remove the conditions on residence. I am confused on when to file. Is it within 90 days of our two year anniversary? Or is it another date? Our 2 year anniversary will be 1/21/2016. Thank you, Paul and Betty

Hey all. We're here in the U.S. trying to pay our $165 fee, which I think is the last step before receiving a green card. The document we have from USCIS says that we will need my wife's A-number and Department of State (DOS) case I.D. number. It says "The DOS consular officer should have provided you a USCIS Immigrant Fee handout listing these numbers when you received your Immigrant Visa Packet at the U.S. consulate abroad." I remember getting a large packet from the consulate in Guangzhou which we were not meant to open because we were supposed to hand it to immigration upon arrival to the U.S... Once we arrived, either they kept everything or I've lost whatever document I was supposed to keep, but the issue is that I don't know her A-number or DOS Case I.D. number. On her CR-I visa sticker inside her passport, I see there is an I.V. case number beginning with the letters GUZ... is this the same as the DOS case I.D. number? If not, anyone know how I cant find this number? How about the A-number? Thank you!

Well my sister in law and her son received there passports with the new visas today. next step is paying the Green card fees (165.00$) online at ELIS site. Note the last paragraph. Does this mean ONLY my sister in law can pay the fees? Or can the petitioner open an account and pay the fees himself? Mike

Hey guys. My wife was granted her CR-1 visa a couple months ago. We are now in the U.S. but are a bit confused about few things. 1. The visa inside her passport says "Expires: November 29th 2015". Is this because her green card will eventually replace the visa and she won't need the visa which is inside her passport? 2. We got a request from USCIS to pay a fee of $165 before she can get her "Permanent Residence Card". Are "green card" and "permanent residence card" the same? 3. After we pay the $165 fee, how soon can we expect the permanent residence / green card to arrive? Lastly I want to thank all who helped us get through this process, from deciding whether to file a K-1 or a CR-1 all the way through to now. I never posted after we went through the interview and were approved, but we could not have done it without the help of people here. Dan and Randy especially, thank you for dedicating time to helping so many others!! You guys deserve some kind of award.

Is there a way to check status of the green card? My wife arrived a little over 3 weeks ago and we haven't received it yet

In an e-mail Elis (not USCIS) reply to a non-address related issue I received this today: "If you need to update your address only the applicant may do so and MUST complete BOTH steps below: Complete an AR-11 address update by:Selecting https://egov.uscis.gov/coa/displayCOAForm.do. Use your Alien Registration Number, NOT your USCIS ELIS Receipt Number. You will be asked if your change of address is for an application or petition currently in progress. Select “NO” and continue as directed. Create a Change of Address service request by:Contact the USCIS ELIS Customer Contact Center by clicking on the “Email Us For Help” link located at https://egov.uscis.gov/cris/contactusPlease provide the following information for all applicants: • Full names (including ALL other names ever used); • Date of birth; • Current Address; • Previous Address; • A-File number(s); and • Receipt number(s). Please be advised that a USCIS Immigration Services Officer will call you (the applicant), in order to verify your identity prior to changing the address. We hope this information is helpful. Sincerely," My emphasis on this part "a USCIS Immigration Services Officer will call you (the applicant), in order to verify your identity prior to changing the address." And here is good place to remind about this. Our A#- is only 8 digits long. The fill in the blanks for A#s are all 9 boxes long. The solution is that you must enter a '0' (Zero not Oh) in the first box.

Many thanks to Mike NuWorld for the screen shots and write-up, which I've copied to a pinned topic from his original post http://candleforlove.com/forums/topic/47701-paying-the-green-card-fees/ This is normally done AFTER a successful interview, and before traveling to the U.S. Green card production will be ordered AFTER the visa recipient has been processed by the POE. If the fee has not been paid by that time, green card production will be delayed until it is paid.

POE: We arrived at JFK airport to a fairly long "Visa" line which I was told we needed to wait in. Kinda surprised there was no fast track for US citizens. With a couple hundred people in front of us and 6 officers working it took ~1 hour for our turn. The officer was very nice and simply opened our package and checked through it for all required stuff (nothing more than a cursory check). He gave my wife's visa a purple stamp and wrote "IR1/H(or maybe A)#######(Her "registration number" from the visa)" We were pretty burned out at this time so I didn't quite follow what he was saying, but I think it was something like the stamp was good for 1 year and that the green card would be arriving for us in ~7-8 weeks since NY is a very busy port. I don't remember him saying anything specific about the green card, am I right to assume it will be good for 10 years? Also, is the # he wrote with the H (or A I'm assuming here) her "A-number"? SSA: When we arrived I talked with an officer there about whether we actually needed see someone from the SSA or not since I had selected to receive a SSN after arrival on the visa application. He said that to be safe we should fill out an application and talk to someone. It took about 20 minutes before we were called up. The worker, again very nice, took my wife's passport, asked her a few questions, and told us her SSN would be arriving in 7-10 days. He didn't mention anything about the visa application.

As the title says. The fees have been payed and was just wondering where it gets sent to? Does the POE know or does USCIS take care of this. Mike

Paying USCIS Immigrant Fee Online before going to USA?
blue.rock posted a topic in Interview Results
We got the visa in hand, and it came with a note saying we must pay the USCIS Immigrant Fee Online BEFORE we go to USA. We went online, did a lengthy registration process, and paid the fee. It shows up now as Case Status: Draft, Submitted, accepted, but hasn't been "optimized, nor closed" yet. Also it says Status Details: Your application/petition has been submitted and is pending review. For Case Summary it says: Status: case received Payment: Submitted. is this enough? Can we go ahead and buy her ticket to come to USA now? she wants to come ASAP (like in 2 days) But we wanna make sure we have done everything correctly and it seems their information on whether we have completed this step is not clear. The note says "You must pay the USCIS Immigrant Fee to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Using ELIS after you receive your immigrant visa package from the Department of State and before you travel to the United States" In other reports I heard you could pay the fee after going to USA but I guess maybe that's different now. -
Visa has been approved. They said it will be sent to my wife's daughter within the next 2 weeks. They say the visa fee needs to be paid before she leaves for the USA. I'm assuming the papers they send her will have the A# and the Department of State (DOS) Case ID number so I can pay this? Immigration visa (F2A) Also, what do we need to go through to get her green card? She needs to go back to London in November for her graduation. Just trying to plan a little ahead and see if possible or...have her wait to come to the USA after she goes through the graduation. As I understand it you have 6 months to enter the country. As always, more questions, but greatly and deeply appreciate all the help you have all given us! Marc

I have another urgent DCF question about paying the $230 fee to process the DS-260. From what I understand, there is an I-130 filing fee of $420 (which we already paid), and then another $230 to process the DS-260, and then finally a fee of $165 after you get your visa and before you enter the US. My husband just had his interview and passed (yay!), but didn't see a place on the 3rd floor of the Guangzhou Consulate to pay the fee. I previously emailed the Guangzhou Consulate, and they emailed back saying that the fee could only be paid on the day of the interview at the Consulate. However, he said that he asked several people who worked there, and they all said that he either didn't have to pay the fee, or he could pay the fee at a CITIC bank. Others who also passed the interview said that the fee wasn't necessary because he already passed. However, I read a story on Candle For Love about a couple who didn't have to pay, then went back to Yunnan and found out they had to come back to pay the fee. We're in Guangzhou for a few more days so I'd like to take care of this before we leave if we need to. Please help! Specifically people who have interviewed there recently and paid the fee at the Consulate.
