  1. Thanks! I guess we'll start by going into the offices and asking. Another question: if I change my name, will the white certificates still be valid in China since my name will be different? I guess I would just have to take the documents showing what my name was and what it was changed to, right? Thanks so much!
  2. Dear Candle Friends- My husband and I have been happily enjoying time with friends in the US for 2 months now. We are so grateful for all of your help! Here's our question: how can I get my name changed from my maiden name to my husband's surname? We were married in China, so of course the certificate shows no name change. I've been exploring some options online and it seems like we can either get married again here for $20 or file a legal name change for $450. Obviously getting married again is cheaper, but won't that screw up all of our records, including my husband's green card papers since our original marriage date was 4 years ago? Thoughts? Has anyone gone through this?
  3. Hi Friends- I've seen conflicting information about which line my husband needs to go through with his green card paperwork (IR-1). Is it possible for us to go through together? (We are traveling back together). We will be landing at a big airport and without any mobile devices to connect with each other, just waiting at baggage sounds dicey. Can anyone with experience give us some tips? Thanks so much! Zhen W.
  4. Sweet! Thank you, everyone! We got our tickets and head back early Sept!
  5. Hi, Everyone- We are packing up and getting ready to buy plane tickets. I have a couple of questions about immunizations. We do not currently live near the immunization/medical centers in China, but when we arrive in the US, it will be after the 8 week mark listed on the immunization sheet as the window to receive the 2nd round of shots. Can we get the shots after we return to the States and have them still be effective? (It will be about 9-10 weeks.) Will we encounter any problems at immigration/customs without the 2nd shots? Thank so much!
  6. I see that there is mentioned a "document intake day" the day before the interview. Is this still the case in 2016?
  7. Thank you guys! You are the answer genies!! Blessings!
  8. Good morning, everyone! As we are checking our papers for our interview next week, we realized that we put my parents' address for my husband's (beneficiary) permanent US address. Since then we have rented a place in their town and so we put that address on our DS-260 paperwork. I know I saw a link on the gov website about what to do before but now I can't find it. Can anyone help us out? Do we just address the discrepancy at our interview and submit paperwork then or should we do it online? Thank you!
  9. Hi All- We have a date and are doing our last checks. My husband's hukou doesn't list him as employed- a detail we forgot to update at the New Year. Will other evidence be enough to supply proof? Also, I have gotten a part-time job since we submitted our DS-260. Do we need to update the USCIS before the interview or at the interview? Thanks for all your great help!
  10. Disregard question #2- I just found the answer elsewhere on the site!
  11. We did get a letter and an email- it just took a few weeks. Thanks!
  12. Greetings- We have finally scheduled our interview and are double-checking the instructions for paperwork to bring. In this set of instructions I see some things that I didn't find before in other places. We got the "white books" done a few months ago when home for the Chinese New Year, so I'm really hoping they don't need to be redone. In the Visa Instructions, it says this regarding the birth certificate, "The certificate must also indicate that the public office extracted the information from official records." I'm thinking this would be from the hukou. In my husband's notarized whitebook, I can't see anything that says where they got the information from, neither in the English or Chinese. Second, I just want to double-check that a notarization regarding his non-criminal record is good nation-wide. We don't need to get one from each city he has lived in, correct? Thanks so much! Cheers!
  13. This is excellent! Thank you!
  14. Once again, thanks for all your help! Just returned from seeing my brother with papers in hand!
