  1. Just finished watching this movie with Rong on the computer...Is a true story movie begining with the Tangshan earthquake in 1976...Rong found it posted on 001 website....Great movie to watch together with your wife. http://news.wenxuecity.com/messages/201007/news-gb2312-1130087.html Just scroll down to the movie....is broken up into 13 ten minute segments.....Is really worth taking a look at.
  2. You could be write about this but it's not her English that is the problem, just her carefree attitude toward matters like this in general. Plus she doesn't really use the internet for "research." She would rather ask around until she is happy with the result. Anyway, the solution seems to be working - it just is taking a few days to collect. Better than sending in gobs of money just be told to "wait patiently for a few months..." i know exactly what you are referring to in regard to the "Carefree attitude in general"....when getting these documents, Rong had to wait a few days to get the "No trouble paper" from the police station and then after delivering it to the gong zhen chu, it took a few more days to get all the documents, translations and certifications...and keep in mind, these will not all be in one booklet....Each document will be in its own booklet....one for no trouble, one for being single or no marry, one for birth certificate...this booklet consists of the four pages inside with a shiny, slightly heavier weight white paper cover (front and back) and will have the gong zhen chu embossing on the cover of all booklets.
  3. A lot of the understanding on exactly what is needed is dependent on how well your fiancee understands english....i'm not trying to toot their horn, but this is one area that our "sister" site, 001 excels....my fiancee really didn't understand exactly what i was asking for until she started going to the 001 website and read about all the documentation needed for a k-1 visa....after she read about it, she knew what to get and how to explain to the police station and gong zhen chu exactly what she was after and got it no problem.
  4. ok....finally got it done....and in the end, it was very simple...ended up using western unionthe person we talked with in TaoBao just gave us his name (in pinyin of course), went to western union and sent the money to him....no need for address or phone number or anything.....when you send it, they (western union) will give you a number and then you tell the seller what the number is and they go to western union to pick up the payment....one thing that is critical is, when the seller goes to western union in china to pick up the payment, they will ask for the senders name, meaning you or i, and this must match to a tee or they cannot get.......when i sent the money, western union omitted my middle initial and would not give to him immediately, so I had to call western union and have this corrected ,for official business i always use first name, middle initial and last name (as it was how we gave the seller the information for shipping)....was sent EMS, when it gets here, will tell you how long it takes....cost for the western union was $14
  5. Do they take PayPal? Ask them - but probably no Paypal was not mentioned when she was talking to the TaoBao rep, so i think they do not accept....will go to the western union office tomorrow (about 20 miles from our home) and try to get all the particulars for doing it that way...I don't know about other peoples wives here, but Rong really doesn't care for the fashions offered here and says all the clothing here is too expensive and therefore doesn't buy too many things clothing wise.....just looks in TaoBao every day and dreams....and i gotta say, she is right....when i see the things in the TaoBao that she wants to get, you can never seem to find anything so pretty here in the USA....and the prices are very good too!

    Tao Bao

Rong wants to order some clothing from TaoBao...they do ship to the USA....has anyones wife ordered things from there after coming to the USA?...and if so, how were the payments made to TaoBao?....they accept Visa, but not a USA visa...they told Rong they accept Western Union, but I am not sure how that is handled...any help/ideas out there?
  7. maybe robert can get the girls father enrolled in a pizza of the week at Pizza Hut for a year? Jesting aside, there is a lot to be said for what and how friends can help some people in the visa process...if she has a passport, it is possible there may be no problem. Often times, the custody papers are not asked to be seen. However, they may be more likely to ask more questions about this if the mother is not present.
  8. thats great....the more the merrier....only thing is, I don't know how long the ticket sales will hold up for this...it isn't like soldier field for sure...got my tickets online through ticketmaster...is listed in the music category-world music...hope the info helps.
  9. We will be there....alraedy have tickets secured...hope can meet up with some others here.
  10. OK....just found out why...The Venue where they will be performing is a casino.....soooooo...wife and I will be going, and just thought that maybe this would be a good place to meet up with some other cfl'ers in the area...can have dinner together, see the show, visit, do some gaming etc...anyone interested in this?...Is sunday, August 1st at 9:00pm (the performance)....hows anybody else think about this?
  11. while perusing ticketmaster for upcoming concerts, I ran across this...Chinese Acrobats Of Hebei ...looked interesting and wife and kids wanted to go see it.....was in the process of getting the tickets and before I could submit the ticket order, there was a box that you had to check to verify that all that would be attending this performance were at least 21 years of age....wtf???...i checked out their performances on some youtube videos and found nothing to be objectionable....anyone know anything about this as to why you would need to be 21 or older to attend something like this? Did get tickets for wife, daughter and myself to see the Eagles in soldier field on the 19th of this month. Should be a great show.
  12. And as for the area to which this thread has drifted, i will say i agree with you on this larry, but, I think you are being too soft on item #3 in your CONS section...i think the following is someones guesstimation on this, but it seems to me that is probably fairly correct......"You have two families: "Joe Legal" and "Jos¨¦ Illegal". Both families have two parents, two children, and live in California. Joe Legal works in construction, has a Social Security Number and makes $25.00 per hour with taxes deducted. Jose Illegal also works in construction, has NO Social Security Number, and gets paid $15.00 cash "under the table". Ready? Now pay attention... Joe Legal: $25.00 per hour x 40 hours = $1000.00 per week, or $52,000.00 per year. Now take 30% away for state and federal tax; Joe Legal now has $31,231.00. Jose Illegal: $15.00 per hour x 40 hours = $600.00 per week, or $31,200.00 per year. Jose Illegal pays no taxes. Jose Illegal now has$31,200.00. Joe Legal pays medical and dental insurance with limited coverage for his family at $600.00 per month, or $7,200.00 per year. Joe Legal now has $24,031.00. Jose Illegal has full medical and dental coverage through the state and local clinics at a cost of $0.00 per year. Jose Illegal still has $31,200.00. Joe Legal makes too much money and is not eligible for food stamps or welfare. Joe Legal pays $500.00 per month for food, or $6,000.00 per year. Joe Legal now has $18,031.00. Jose Illegal has no documented income and is eligible for food stamps and welfare. Jose Illegal still has $31,200.00. Joe Legal pays rent of $1,200.00 per month, or $14,400.00 per year. Joe Legal now has $9,631.00. Jose Illegal receives a $500.00 per month federal rent subsidy. Jose Illegal pays out that $500.00 per month, or $6,000.00 per year. Jose Illegal still has $ 31,200.00. Joe Legal pays $200.00 per month, or $2,400.00 for insurance. Joe Legal now has $7,231.00. Jose Illegal says, "We don't need no stinkin' insurance!" and still has $31,200.00. Joe Legal has to make his $7,231.00 stretch to pay utilities, gasoline, etc. Jose Illegal has to make his $31,200.00 stretch to pay utilities, gasoline, and what he sends out of the country every month. Joe Legal now works overtime on Saturdays or gets a part time job after work. Jose Illegal has nights and weekends off to enjoy with his family. Joe Legal's and Jose Illegal's children both attend the same school. Joe Legal pays for his children's lunches while Jose Illegal's children get a government sponsored lunch. Jose Illegal's children have an after school ESL program. Joe Legal's children go home. Joe Legal and Jose Illegal both enjoy the same police and fire services, but Joe paid for them and Jose did not pay."....and as others here have said, it does not mean this problem is exclusive to our friends to the south...i know all ethnic groups are included in this, including whites...just puts a perspective on all this as to what it is costing the average joe taxpayer in comparison to the "Illegals" and how our government sponsors them at the taxpayer expense!....so, I say, $1,000 per year penalty is way too soft.
  13. As per the original topic to this thread, I keep Rongs' and both her childrens green cards locked up in a safe....they all have state ID's which can be produced to anyone in an official capacity to ask for them and if the green cards are needed, i can get at any time also.
  14. Bite the bulet and just bring it all with you and pay the airlines the extra baggage fee....is what we did....you are gonna pay to have it here one way or another....is just a question of when do you want it here.
  15. We have talked about this, but not as in a permament move...would be more like spending the winters in China, as a winter Texan does...my primary occupation (farming) would allow for this after my retirement from my factory job...would like to live in China after fall work is complete and then come back to USA when is time for spring planting.
  16. My 23 y.o. nephew who lives in Alabama was engaged to marry a cute lass from Guatemala who also has a young child (2 or 3 y.o.)....they were going to get married in two weeks until she was recently pulled over for a driving violation and it was found she was here illegally and has since been deported back to Guatemala...presumably the marriage plans are on indefinate hold now...my question is, do they now proceed with normal immigration processes or will it quickly be denied because of her being here illegally in the first place?....should he go to Guatemala and marry her and then file CR-1 or will that also be shot down on first attempt also?...what are the opinions here about this for how to proceed, or if it is even worthwhile persuing?
  17. there are some states that have the rules of the road book in chinese, and some can be obtained online (we used washington states), the biggest help for Rong was in finding the written test in chinese characters...our local driver test facility did not have it, but after a few phone calls to the state level, they had one in a few days....she and her daughter both took the test at the same time and both passed
  18. Proceed with the constant thought in mind that you can never have enough. GUZ proceeds with the thought that you and/or your fiancee' are guilty or a scammer until you or your fiancee' can be proven to not be a scammer and innocent.
  19. I'm sure I'll catch hell for this post too, but what has always agravated me when getting on and off airplanes is the people who check no luggage and carry it all on. Then when you arrive at your destination, it takes 30 - 45 minutes just to get off the airplane. They want to carry it all on, then let em pay, or let them stay seated until everyone that has no carry on get off the plane first!
  20. Yes they can...have done this before....rong would send to me 2 cartons at a time...is a little pricey, but personally, i prefer the chinese cigarettes.."Double Happiness" brand....and they aren't those crappy fire safety smokes either which is a big plus to me...The Double Happiness are among the cheaper brands, so when you figure in the cost of sending them, they are about the same as buying them here...maybe just a tad cheaper...i hear you can also get them from canada too....have a friend nearby that runs the local chinese grocery store and he and also his parents go back to china once or twice a year and they always bring them back for us too.....as i said, can only send two cartons at a time....if you want, can send two cartons each day, or have two or three people there each send to you two cartons....certainly better than what is available here....when i would come back from my visits to Rong, I would always bring back 15 to 20 cartons packed away in the checked luggage (never had my luggage searched in my 9 trips there)...as for how to do it, just box them up and send them via the postal service, or ems.
