  1. Glad I popped in tonight. Exactly the content I was hoping to find, and current too! If I have any questions I'll be back.
  2. Oh My! I am so sorry to hear this. Really don't know what I can add to what everyone else has said. He was just such a level headed man that would help you out in any way that he could. A wise man that certainly helped me out through the processes Rong and I went through in 2007-2008. Rest well my friend. You are dearly missed.
  3. Watched this at work tonight. Could not hear any of the narrative, but caught enough of the subtitles to understand. Will watch again at home when I have more time. Thanks for posting this.
  4. Don't know why ya would need a mask when they're sellin all them cans of fresh air in china. Last count I seen, they had sold 8 million cans so far. Just pop the top and fffwwippppppt. Ahhhhhhhhhh. So good! Why heck, I'll bet Randy has got a few cases of that special "Tibet" fresh air stashed away.
  5. I think I've told you this before Tsap, but I'll say it again.....you are really missing out on the Queen Mary being parked outside your door by not having your writings published in a weekly if not daily syndicated newspaper. Surely I can not be the only one who sees this as your true gift. The Candle was so very helpful to me in every aspect of the immigration process, two year green card, ten year green card. Enough thanks can never be said about this, but now I return for, if for nothing else, just to read your "musings". And articles such as the one above always give me a good laugh. Thanks Tsap!
  6. LOL.....Rong and I got a good chuckle from this also.....and even more interesting was surfing through the YOUKU videos...got some really funny stuff there.
  7. Showed this thread to Rong....she just laughed and said "How can you compare the #1 city on the world to Nanjing?". She said it would be more fair to compare NYC to the likes of HongKong or Shanghai or Beijing.
  8. "Good" beef jerky is another one. Rong and her friends always liked that, the spicier the better. Perfume is also appreciated, but if you get too many can also get pricy. As for chocolate, Rong and friends also really liked the Lindt dark chocolate balls.
  9. Dang Tsap.....you mean ma ma or the lil rabbit never said "Sa bi ni donge qui zi" to you ....spelling is sure to be incorrect but is how it sounds to me when I hear it!
  10. yes....i think i will be looking into a professional teacher for her. Already taking blood pressure meds. But here in small town america, don't know exactly what will be available. Will be checking into it none the less.
  11. welllll....hmmm...where do I start. Maybe first I should just say that I'm happy to be alive today. Teaching my wife to drive was a piece of cake. She had never driven anything before, so no bad habits to break. Got her liscence on first try and does really well. Her daughter has also never driven anything...cannot even ride a bicycle and just turned 21. maybe that should have been the first clue. Have been trying to teach step daughter to drive for two years now. Is now on her 2nd learners permit. Last tuesday she was giving me a ride home. Just needed to cross a state highway to be back on a township blacktop. road was clear, but she chose to wait for two cars coming from a 1/2 mile to the south. After they cleared the intersection, she went. Don't know if she didn't look or maybe the view was obscured by the passing two cars, but we got hit big time. Pickup to the right front fender area which spun us and the back of our car to the side of the pickup. Thankfully everyone is ok, but both vehicles were totaled.
  12. I don't know about now, but there used to be this "window of opportunity".....seems that it was like between 4-6 weeks before departure that the tickets would be at their lowest....aty least that was the general rule back when I was commuting back and forth from 2006 to 2008....worked out well at that time...can't remember who told me about that, but I remember it was one of Clark Howards money smart items....can probably look it up to check on that.
  13. It's a fact that when we go out for dinner and Rong want to have an alchoholic beverage she is always asked for her I.D. because she looks so young, but at 44 years of age she hardly qualifies as a teenager. As for stress, I would have to say it is barely minimal to none. Humidity....well, living in central Illinois, especially at this time of year is way low...Dr. Randy didn't say if low or high humidity may be a factor, but as for showering lets just say she uses her fair share of water each day! Will let this post ride for a little time longer to see if there are any more suggestions for this. Thanks everyone for your input on this.
  14. Don't know if this topic has been touched on here before or not. How many others have wives or children that have seemingly been plagued with pimples since coming here. Does anyone know wwwhat the possible reasons and cures may be. Have not taken them to see a dermatologist yet, but if we can't nail down some answers I am sure this will be the most logicle next step.....Anyone?
  15. Chinatown is as Chinatown does....and in the 3 years we have been going to Chicago's Chinatown, it is still new to us.....there are the favorite places we like to go to eat and grocery shop, but there is so much more that we have not yet discovered....in some ways it is kind of spread out and if you don't drive around and happen onto some of these places or if someone hasn't told us aout this place or that place then it just remains to be found by us....by and large, Chicago Chinatown serves our need pretty well,,,however, as Rong points out, the most predominant language there is what she calls "Guangdong" language, which I take to mean is mostly southern china residents there....as for growth or decline, it seems to be thriving.
  16. Same as Tsap said..there is always this woman/person they read about in of all places "001" that have these wonderful jobs and make "a lot of money"...doesn't matter if it is airline stewardess job, dealer jobs in casinos, waitress jobs....is always someone braggin up the money to be made...of course I think the way a lot of them make this so called "lot of money" is that you are footing the bills for everything while they pocket and put in their bank account all the money they make...again to sid e with Tsap, most of us are past the days of working the cash jobs for the under the table money...with all we went through getting our wives here, we sure don't want to screw things up by someone sending uncle sam a note about how so and so is making all this money and not claiming anything on income tax.
  17. Rong says in china they also say "An apple a day keeps the doctor away" and "The grass is alwways greener on the other side of the hill" among others that just don't come to me right now.
  18. Long before coming to the USA, Rong amd her daughter were and still are fans of watching Amercan Idol on TV and is very eager for the new season beginning this month. How many others here have wives that are also "fans" of American Idol?
  19. when we recieved the social security cards for Rong and her two children, I notice on Rongs' card it states "Valid for work only with DHS authorization" , while the childrens has none of this and appear the same as my SS card. Can anyone expound on this as to the exact meaning of this? Does this mean Rong cannot recieve any SS benefits but the children can? Is this how others recieved their SS cards?
  20. Have recieved notification that Rongs children are included on her petition to remove conditions and Rong and her daughter go for their Biometrics Appointment on wednesday....does this mean things are moving along niceley?...or is this about the norm?....Is there an approximate time table as to when they will get the cards following the bio appt?...or what happens in the next order of progression for this?
  21. Justin Wilson....haven't seen him on the tube for a long time.....used to watch him with my dad who coincindently was the most Justin Wilson lookalike I have ever seen...didn't have that cajun drawal and mannerisms, but he sure looked like him...right down to the red suspenders.
  22. Alrighty then....guess its time to just sit back and be patient.
  23. Today, Rong and I had a flat iron stek cooked outside on the grill....we never wash or clean the grate as that makes the meat stick...maybe we scrape off the buildup once or twice a year...but anyway, she likes the steak cooked the same as I....somewhere between rare and med. rare....red in the center doesn't bother us at all....and I don't know why, but it always seem to taste the best when we eat it right off the grill....just slice off and eat a little at a time as it is cooking...have a paper plate that we sprinkle some salt on and just dab what we need...mmmmm...dang good.....as for worring about cancer, i think worrying too much will cause cancer....seriouly though folks, I think some people are just more predisposed to get cancer while others are not.....lifes a gamble and you get what it throws at ya and then deal with it.
  24. OK...every thing is ready to go tomorrow morning....not that it is real important, just wanted to get an average idea how long before the ten year green cards will arrive...is going through the california service center....Anyone?
