  1. Thanks everyone......exactly what I was wanting to know.
  2. I know that the Green Card is the ultimate as for the immigrants Identification and allowing the immigrant to legally work here, but just for local use, Rong and her children have gotten official State ID cards here for buying smokes and getting served in bars...if the green cards were to get lost, i would think it could be a real hassle to get them replaced, so I keep the Green cards locked in a "Safe" place....the State ID cards are easy to replace if lost or stolen and are just fine for about any ID needs here. My question is, if we were to take a lil trip to canada for example, would the state ID cards suffice?, or is this a case where the green cards are a must for re-entry to the USA?
  3. yeeee-abba-dabba-doooooooo!!!!!
  4. Chawls, the person making the statement needs to have their affidavit sworn to or affirmed...I take that to mean notarized. And then there needs to be a translation from Chinese to english...that's why I thought of a white book type deal, although the cost of the white book the lil' rabbit is quoting is from what she paid for things like translated divorce decree, police report, birth certificates, etc., that came from a public office. Randy, I agree with you "One affidavit, one page"... Chawls, here's what I found from the I-130 directions... Affidavits sworn to or affirmed by third parties having personal knowledge of the bona fides of the marital relationship (Each affidavit must contain the full name and address, date and place of birth of the person making the affidavit, his or her relationship to the petitioner or beneficiary, if any, and complete information and details explaining how the person acquired his or her knowledge of your marriage) Heck, in America I'll just get family members and friends to write a short statement and get it notarized. No problem, I've got almost four years worth of friends and family who understand what I've been doing and have done. I'll have the lil' rabbit call or go to the notary office and ask them what the dang cost is...every time I look at a white book, say, the police report...it keeps looking like we need the statement by the friend notarized, then the notary verifies the english translation is true to the Chinese original statement...in effect...another white book Anyone else gone through this, what did you do? Maybe I'll PM Kyle later, as I'm pretty sure he got Chinese third party affidavits as to his marriage and relationship. tsap seui We did this Tsap, had three of my wifes "Aquaintenances" do this for her to attest to the fact that she had no connection with her ex for several years...i have been looking for the documents (I know they're here somewhere), but still haven't found them, but i am sure it was all on one document that they all signed at the same time and then it was notarized and translated and then another certification paper to say the translation was correct....and these are all in the white booklet form with the embossing on the booklet etc.....hope this helps Thanks Steve, yep, it just seems to head back to a white book of sorts what with the translation and the need to have the translation notarized...unless the Chinese person writes in english. I found Kyle's list for their interview and had to laugh at his list, it looked like the list of stuff we had for our interview....my wife (then girlfriend) went to the counter with a wheeled double briefcase full of clearly marked folders...even Bubba Jr. was versed on where to find what. That VO bitch "M" saw she was loaded for bear and never looked at a single damn thing. This time the DOS gangsters in Guangzhou will have EVERYTHING they could dream up with the initial I-130...my wife could go to the interview with one of them little plastic shopping bags worth of evidence like most of the Chinese women I saw in line on our interview day. I found this on Kyle's list of things they had for the interview, doesn't look like it was sent in with the original I-130 application, though. Mutual Friend from China ¨C Letter includes copy of passport Bio page Other than our son, my wife doesn't know anyone in China with a passport, or that can write in english. Of course a Chinese ID card could be printed with the statement...then we go back to the almighty translation for the whole shebang...I may well wind up with 8 affadavits from Americans, and, if I can get the lil' rabbit to open her purse...two white books of testimonials. Thanks for the help and ideas guys. tsap seui Found our White booklet and is just one booklet for all the people who "testified" about Rongs situation.....and in the one booklet is page one: all in chinese stating who is Rong, her birthdate and ID card number and that she has lived with her mother for x number of years and has not cohabitated with her ex during this time and also on same page is the names and birthdates and ID card numbers of the friends that swore to this....then the friends signed this paper and dated it....Next page is the english translation of the previous page (no signatures required) ...the next page is another page in chinese...a Notarial Certificate that states again the friends names, birthdates and ID card #'s and that they came before said Notary to certify the previous document and bears the notaries name, location and notary embossing...the next page is the english translation of this again......the next page is another Notarial Certificate, in chinese again, stating that the translations of these documents are in conformity with the original certificates and the next page is the English translation of the previous page with the notaries name, location and the notary stamp/embossing on the document.....end of little white booklet.....yer lil rabbit does not need friends who speak english to do this tsap, all the translations are provided at Gong Zhen Office

  6. Great news Dan.....know what you mean about the badgering....where's my card?....where's my card?..."everyone" else has already gotten theirs already, where's mine?....hahaha
  7. advice is what it is.....advice.....with that said, i can only relegate to you how our situation came about....we filed two months after she got her divorce certificate....got blued at the interview, but was not for non bonafide relationship, she had two children, both hers and had to have dna tests for it.....as for the relationship, i explained to guz in lengthy detail how i was aware that rong had not yet divorced when we first met (it is commonplace for a chinese man and woman to separate and live separate lives basically for the financial security of the situation)...rong had been separated from her now ex for seven years when we filed our K-1 and she had gotten statements from 3 people she had known during this period to attest to the fact that Rong has had no contact with her ex and these statements were translated and certified and notarized...i think that it sometimes is just a matter of covering all the bases throughout this process....as for my blue slip, we wanted to have the dna tests done prior to interview, but Guz did not respond to this untill the interview....either way, its a crap shoot...some get extremely lucky and get a very easy VO, while others get what is scraped off the bottom of the ocean......best of luck no matter how you persue it
  8. Rong and I have been watching the winter olympics and we are both pretty well satisfied with what we've been watching....is kind of a rip deal though that there are so few channels covering it on DirecTV, so we have been watching a LOT of curling which once you get into it, it really ain't as boring as I once thought....Skiing is my favorite, and skating is Rongs.....watching the run for the Gold on the mens 500m race, Apolo Ohno was disqualified for pushing the canadian out of the way.....to me it looked like the canadian was already loosing his footing and i really didn't see a push so much as what really looked like his hand just touched the canadian.....what do you think?.....and then how about Hamelin doing the same to the south korean skater?.....as Ohno pointed out, it was all ruled on by Canadian judges, sooooooo...
  9. New bills are the best....and when i say new bills, just make sure there are no marks on them, holes (even the tiniest of what appears to be a pin hole can be rejected), no tears, no missing corners and if the bill has been folded too many times and Bens face is looking a little worn, they can reject it for that too...i would always go to the bank and bring home a wad and then sort through the ones i already had and then sort through the new ones from the bank and always take the most pristine ones i had.....even then they would find one thing or another to reject some.....but the rejected ones would always be accepted at my hotel......what always burned me up was, you give the bank the best money you can find, and in exchange, you get what looks like money from an old monopoly game from the 1940's.....ragged pieces of paper......atm's are good too....just be sure you have your limits for withdrawal set before departing....don't want to get in a bind when you really need a pile of cash fast....and i never change my money back to dollars....just take whats left back to the usa....figure it will never lose its value and you got something to start with on the next trip
  10. The methodology is different. In China it is outright corruption by many individuals and companies. The local kingpin taking land away from farmers to give to construction buddies, the local kingpins son running a brick factory with enslaved workers and other officials looking the other way, it's the melamine in the watered down milk to make greater profits. In the US it's done by legislation for special groups, lobbyists, highly paid speaking engagements and jobs to former politicians as a way of repaying favors done in the past, quid pro quo. Somethings are similar in both countries, kickbacks for overlooking improper construction , jobs based upon political connections when the individuals are not qualified in the least. The US is more sophisticated in the art of skullduggery. Yeah...i know.....but when you wash off the mud off one or the whitewash off the other, is still the same basic people....the power mongers grabbin it all first and not leavin enough for the ones who who are doin all the work to make it all happen in the first place.
  11. what makes this all so different from how government and business is conducted in the USA?
  12. I for one do not purport to know everything about anything, but, is just my opinion that in the good ole usa there is one heck of a lot more oil, gas and coal reserves than the government or oil or energy company would ever like you to know about......maybe the usa was one of the first to get heavily industrialized when the oil boom began, but if you think about it, the industrialization back then didn't amount to a wart on a fleas ass compared to the modern industrial world of today....and just how long have we been relying on foriegn oil?.....do you think it is just coincidence that we began to run so low on crude oil so early when things were just getting going?....i'll never believe that we are in such a bad posture whereas oil is concerned.....i don't believe the government would let our situation become so strategically dire.....why burn all ours up when we can burn up everyone elses and keep ours for later...and then ours will be worth even more than what was being paid for foreign deliveries
  13. Kinda makes you wonder what would happen to the price of oil if the most industrialized nations of the world all went back to burning coal for electricity and using the coal gasification process for fueling the autos....how important would all these conflicts in the mideast be then?
  14. Illinois does not have the study booklet in English, so I printed off from the Washington State online booklet what i thought to be pertinent to taking the test here...daughter had been taking drivers ed in school (English format) so was pretty well prepared and they both took the test at the same time.....not being that well versed in chinese, I really couldn't tell you what kind of chatter took place as they took the test
  15. I took Rong and her daughter to the drivers test facility today to get state ID cards for them and thought, what the heck, let them take the written portion of the test just to see how they will do and see where they need to study.....guess what?...both passed the test!!....now i have two new students to teach how to drive....Rong will be pretty easy to pass the driving portion i think, but her daughter has never been behind the wheel ...their test was all in chinese characters....had to do a little hunting for this test, but after a few phone calls, found who had it and it was sent to the local test facility
  16. Can these w-2's or 1099's be Fed-Exed or UPSed to you now and get this cleared up while you are still there? or even quicker, they can fax them to you? Whats another week or two in GUZ if you can get all this cleared up now?....hmmmmm....then it will be china new year time and you can stay for that also
  17. after giving the dna samples 09/26/08, i kept up a steady regimen of calling the DOS number to ask about any news of our case...about the 2nd week of november, DOS told me our case was approved , gave us the tracking number for the letter GUZ supposedly sent out...the number never did come up as a good number...is was my presumption that GUZ lost or misplaced it and later acknowledged it as such and finally sent out another letter which Rong recieved about Dec. 2nd....i arrived Xi'an 0n the 5th and our planes landed in Xi'an within a half hour of each other...me coming from chicago, and her returning from guz with her visa's in hand....Soooo.....from my data, you should be hearing something from GUZ approximately 6-7 weeks after the DNA sample has been taken....providing GUZ doesn't screw anything up.... they couldn't possibly screw up twice?..could they???
  18. Rong is trying to study for her written test, but there are enough words that she does not understand to make studying difficult for her...i remember someone telling me that she can take the Q&A test at a drivers test facility in Chinatown, chicago....but i have scoured the sec. of state office website in illinois and there seems to be no translated booklet available.....does anyone know how or where to obtain a translated booklet for illinois (or any other state for that matter)....i am sure the laws are similar enough to pass a test...thanks
  19. i used onesuite.com as well....cheap, clarity was very good and very easy to print out calling records...some companies do not make the calling records available...just need to print them out before they expire as they only keep them for 3 or 6 months...can't remember which
  20. First of all, Social Security is federal, so it doesn't matter what state you are in....BUT!, you will find you get different responses from different employees, and different responses from different SS offices (again, different employees)....first thing you need to do is get ssan, or some employees will give you crap because you are married and your wife is now not a k-1 and will tell you that you need to adjust status first (Not True!)....i ran into this untill i found a very knowledgeable SS employee that set me on the right course (albeit to later)...Again, I stress, GET SOCIAL SECURITY number FIRST (1st), before you marry....keep going up the food chain at the SS office untill you get the number applied for. Yes...as Randy said, you can get up to 76 days after arrival (SS office told me 90) married or not....but again, it just depends on how knowledgeable the SS employee is about this and how they try to interpret the regulations when they look it up
  21. shouldn't be a problem as long as you enter before it expires....but i'll let the experts vouch for this
  22. Again, a special thanks to CFL and all the help from here....steveandrong
  23. Why not just highlight the chat you want and copy (ctrl-C) and paste (ctrl-V) it to your notepad and print it that way...no need to worry about installing drivers or anything.....very simple
