  1. We are nearing the get-ready-for-the-final-test stage. She has been driving with learner permit for about a month. I don't get headaches as much now as when she first started driving.
  2. My wife received A-number when she received work authorization card
  3. You are responsible until the person has worked 10 qualifying quarters (10 years), even if you get divorced and she remarries. . . . cheaper to keep her This is stated in the I-864 instructions.
  4. If no co-sponsor, then you need to have in liquid assets 5 times the difference between your salary and the minimimum income requirement. For example: if the minimum income requirement is 15,000/year and your income is only 10,000/year (from China or wherever), then you need to also have $25,000 in assets (that can be converted into cash within one year) such as a bank savings, stocks, etc.
  5. congrats! Now that's the way the system is supposed to work - smoothly
  6. Hate to 'blow' your theory, but just look at out timeline. My gal lived in Beijing (population 9 million).
  7. Have a great time, take pictures, and don't forget to write.
  8. It has been quite warm this summer here in LV, with many days over 110 and over a week over 115. My wife seems to enjoy the heat, as it is much drier here than in Beijing. She did get a sunburn the first day at the beach though. She said that was new for her.
  9. congratulations, and best wishes for your future life together.
  10. Congratulations on the beginning of your life together here in America. Welcome to the U.S., Sarah. It is great to hear another's impressions of life in America. You remind us of the beauty in this country.
  11. Hi, I am beginning to see that many of our gals have some similar traits that they brought with them from China. . . such as the washing all the time, loving to eat fruit, drinking bottled water (not from tap), etc. But you guys don't know hot weather. It has been over 115 degrees here for about a week. I am surprised at how well she has adapted to the warm weather. What are you guys talking about, window air conditioners?? Do they still have them in the U.S.? I thought all the homes in the U.S. had central air and heating. I must be spoiled But isn't this fun . . . watching our gals assimilate and learn from them.
  12. We live in a region of the country that is warm climate and the economy thrives off tourism. Hence there are a lot of transients. EVERYONE here must obtain a work card. There are many foreigners and intending immigrants who work here with work cards, and I know of no one who has been denied a job because they were not citizens. I have lived also in Phoenix for 15 years, and the situation is much the same there. I am assuming it is similar in California, and am surprised it is not similar situation in Florida. Keep trying. You will find the job that is right for you. As for our personal situation, my wife will complete schooling in a couple weeks. Then she will be looking for a casino job. Hopefully my contacts will make her search short.
  13. Try to not worry and think positive. Good Luck!
  14. If you cannot meet the 125% poverty level minimum requirement, you have 2 options. You must have 5 times the difference between your income and the 125% poverty level in cash or liquid assets (can be liquidated within 1 year. Other option is to get a co-sponsor.
  15. He needs to get a certified copy of his divorce decree from the recorder in the county where his divorce was final. I went through this myself.
  16. You did not say, but I am assuming Windows does at least boot up. If this is the case, and you are considering reformatting (and that may be the least headache), I suggest that you partition your hard drive (if you haven't already done so). Move all the data that you would like to save from your C drive onto another partition before you format. When you format, do so from DOS and only format the C drive, thus saving the rest of your data on your other drives. Having gone through the rigors of losing data due to reformatting in the past, I now always partition my hard drives. Whenever possible, I install applications on a drive other than C (just in case I ever have to reformat my operating system). Of course, there are some applications that can only be installed and function properly on the C drive. BTW, I have a multi-operating system, but I run Windows 2000 most of the time. I keep Win 98 on one partition for the few applications (mostly old) out there that will not work on Win 2k. Whenever I find the time, I am also going to install LINUX SU Se7, and Windows XP. CONCLUSION: It is not that hard to reformat and reinstall an operating system. It is the thought of doing it (and time spent reinstalling all the apps) that is the toughest.
  17. Mick, try not to worry about the 3 year interview wait. They told you that is maximum wait. I think it will likely be less time. It seems the Atlanta center is a bit They told us that they would call us for interview in probably 6 months or more, but probably less than a year. When we filed our I-485 in person at the Las Vegas INS, they asked for the $50 fingerprint fee. We were told to return in one week for the EAD. We returned and received the work card in about an hour. About a week later, we received the notice in the mail telling us where to get fingerprinted. I had to wait outside for about 45 minutes while they fingerprinted her. But at least it was on a rare cool day (about 92 degrees) and I did find a little shade under a palm tree. It appears your local BCIS center is a bit , but at least progress is finally being made From hearing of yours and other AOS experiences, my conclusion is that it is probably worth applying at your BCIS office in person - even if you have to take a day off work and drive a few hundred miles.
  18. Moving right along. She will be here soon. Enjoy your trip, Tom.
  19. AOS = Adjustment of Status (I-485) EAD = Employment Authorization Document (I-765) AP = Advance Parole (for international travel while AOS is pending) (I-131) You can get the forms at the BCIS website To which interview are you referring, the K visa interview or the AOS interview? For the best information, read the posts in this forum from people who have been through the process. Check also the Links and Resources section. Ask if you have a specific question.
  20. Yes, either include the I-134 with your I-129F petition (as we did), or bring the I-134 with you to the interview.
  21. Congratulations, Tom, you get the other (red) jumping blob when she gets here. B)
  22. Thanks Tony, Found one on the list a few blocks from our house.
  23. tax forms do not need to be notarized, only the I-134 form itself needs notarized. That is according to the instructions, and it worked for us.
