  1. The solution is simple but politicians won't do it. they spend most of the energy and money on chasing the illegals instead of dealing with what brings them here. If they made the penalty for hiring illegals so severe that it would no longer be worth the risk there would be no jobs for them. If there are no jobs they won't come. If they can't find a job they'll go home. Big business likes cheap labor. big business gets politicians from both parties elected.
  2. Leather and lace is good but I still find the "steel rods swathed in flowers" an apt analogy for many Chinese women. Feminine and beautiful yet strong at the same time.
  3. Here's an interesting thread from notable posts sub forum http://candleforlove.com/forums/topic/29887-never-marry-a-chinese-woman/?p=382389
  4. A sad story but also a good example of why it's not wise to piss off Chinese women. http://www.opposingviews.com/i/society/chinese-woman-allegedly-burns-husbands-mistress-death
  5. My wife says that most of the Chinese characters she sees tattooed on people look like a first grader's scrawl.
  6. UK 173 US 172. That's only one country difference. Now I wonder which countries UK passport holders can visit without a visa that US passport holders can and vise versa.
  7. they are commonly referred to as box springs although they quit putting springs in them many years ago.
  8. A clinic that deals in immigration medical exams should know what's required. There are civil surgeons who will rip you off. My advice is to download a list of civil surgeons in your state/area and start calling in an outward spiral until you find one who will sign off on the I-693 for a reasonable fee. I'm puzzled though since you mentioned she's your wife, I presume you filed an I-130 and her visa is IR-1 or CR-1. There is no adjustment of status for a CR-1 or IR-1 visa. . You would only need a civil surgeon to sign off if she entered on a K-1 or K-3 visa. K-3 visas are pretty much obsolete so I'm assuming IR-1 or CR-1. Since she has the visa in hand she has already met all the requirements. She only needs enter the US and await her green card. As for Tokyo she won't be able to leave the international area of the airport without a visa.
  9. If a K-1 is denied you have the option of getting married and starting over. there are no do overs for a CR-1. You would have to battle it out.
  10. Welcome to CFL. Occasional visits to the PSB are common however I suppose what ever they wish can be required. Randy is our resident expert on living in China. I'm sure he'll be along to give you some good advice.
  11. when my wife got her first visa to China she had to send in her Chinese passport. When they sent her the visa they returned her Chinese passport intact, no void stamps or holes punched. On her last visit to China she didn't send her Chinese passport. As far as I know it's still valid.
  12. A long hard row to hoe. Congratulations.
  13. It would be difficult to fire on your own citizens. Kent State comes to mind. "Tin soldiers and Nixon coming...."
  14. The SSA is notorious for not understanding immigrant visas. As Dan said I would go to a different office. If the person there won't help you ask for a supervisor.
  15. Damn Mike all these years and I didn't know yours and Hong's wedding anniversary is June 1st. Bing and I were married June 1st 2004. Our 10th is Sunday. Every year I buy Bing a traditional gift. The 10th anniversary is tin. I'm thinking a tin of something tasty. Happy anniversary Mike and Hong. I bet we don't forget each other's anniversary now.
  16. Now Catherine, pay them Yankees and Hillbillies no heed. The proper way to talk is like we do in the wild wild west. I'm originally from Idaho. Quite possibly the redneck capital of the USA. There are less than a million people in the whole state. There's probably more people in a square mile in Beijing than there is in Boise, the largest city. Howdy of course is a perfectly acceptable word. Wash is pronounced "warsh" and a creek is a "crick". Creek is what the door does when it needs oiled. No one would call me Mr Etherton because Mr Etherton is my dad. My name's Carl.
  17. Wait until you have the visa in hand. There have been cases of a last minute hold up.
  18. In 11 years on this board I don't recall anyone ever being asked to provide the X-ray under any circumstances.
  19. "You want a #1 with cheese, is that correct? I'm sorry, I didn't catch that. You want a #1 with cheese, is that correct?"
  20. As the article pointed out it's not just Japan China is acting aggressively towards. They've laid claim to almost the entire south China sea and have started incidents with Vietnam and the Philippines. It's reckless and dangerous. If China believes the US will stand idly by while they start a war with Japan they are seriously mistaken. It could rapidly escalate into nuclear war leaving millions dead.
  21. I stand corrected. http://www.elearnenglishlanguage.com/blog/english-mistakes/i-vs-me/ Catherine I vaguely remember the old man you are referring to. It was about 8-10 years ago. As I recall he was 80 something and his fiance was in her 20s. I don't believe his petition was ever approved. t
